Always been fascinated by these (relatively) very old European cities in the New World. Santa Fe is also interesting, as its so deep into the North American landmass, when it would quite a while before other European settlements to catch up to that level of penetration into the continent's interior. Would love to see a similar video if you ever make it out that way.

Fun fact I was born in Laredo Texas which started out as the Spanish colonial settlement of Villa de San Agustin de Laredo founded in 1755.

I love your channel! Please keep making more videos. I love your presentations and your descriptions about history. I live in Florida and I am glad you discuss the tourist crowds that can exist. I would never drink ANY Florida water from a fountain, much less any other FL water! 😂😅😅

My Grandma was from there. She left with one of her Sisters to Florida. Her parents were sharecroppers. So I guess they were also slaves or their parents were slaves. My grandmother father gave her the Deeds to their property which was sold to him by the owner, a white man. It was three different lands. And on the deed said, do not sell to Negroes. My grandmother raised me. I’m 42. People always say me, and my sister sound alike and country. We live in Miami. I guess it’s because my grandparents are from the deep south and the western country Texas. I wish I knew more about where I’m from and my history and all of my ancestors.

Finally someone says it correctly. The oldest "continuously occupied" city in the United States. Pensacola is older and was also continuously occupied, but pirates were terrible at record keeping for a couple years. 😆

I am Indonesian from Jakarta the capital... Dutch colonial city...!!! But actually Spanish... Portuguese... French colonised us too...!!! A big country... almost as big as USA... With 17000+ islands and 280 million people... Portuguese fort from 16th century... British fort from 19th century etc. are scattered all over Indonesia...!!! Banda Island also given to the Dutch by the British in exchange of MANHATTAN in New York given by the Dutch...!!! No wonder NY was called New Amsterdam...!!! 😂❤

PENSACOLA STAKES ITS CLAIM on a settlement established there in 1559 by the explorer Tristan de Luna. The colony failed, however, and was abandoned until the return of the Spanish to Pensacola Bay in 1698. St. Augustine, in turn, is the oldest CONTINUOUSLY occupied European settlement in North America. Pedro Menendez de Aviles founded the ancient Spanish city in 1565, six years after Luna's attempt at Pensacola.

1 bit of history you seem to overlook. Is Many people think the head Of the spanish at this time period was pointy and hard with no hair. But that It's actually not true People don't seem to realize It was just their helmets and those actually were removed when they wanted to remove them. So They had Head hair very often. Other than this thank you for the information video
