Werewolves are my fav! Honestly i find the tragic, beast within style to be the most compelling. It's such a wonderful metaphor for so many things. Growing into adulthood, primal urges, it just has a full gambit. And it always leads to wonderful characters who wrestle with this innate viciousness

Thats's why Gingersnaps is my favorite werewolf movie. I've seen it dozens of times now, but I was 13 when I first watched it. Using the main characters transformation as a metaphor for puberty and growing up immediately resonated with me. It's a fantastic film.

I know I'm late to the convo but YAY for the Hemlock Grove inclusion. Wasn't a fan of the show and I barely remember anything from it but I was *blown away* by that transformation. Visually stunning and puts so much more weight to the idea of lycanthropy as a curse you don't want to be messing with.

I have three things to add to this video. One, Teen Wolf (starring Michael J. Fox) was a loose remake of I Was a Teenage Werewolf. Two, Michael Landon reprised his role from "I Was a Teenage Werewolf" for an episode of Highway To Heaven. It was a Halloween special episode meant for the audience to have some fun. Three, for the movie Dog Soldiers slim (almost skinny) dancers were hired to play the werewolves. These performers stood on stilts to give themselves extra height over the stars. I like these videos. Keep them coming, thank you.

The coolest of all "monsters" IMO. You forgot two of my favs Vampire diaries and the Cursed movie with Christina Ricci and Jesse Eisenberg. But you hit the other favs except the twilight stuff. Some of the other good flicks were: Howl (2015), Werewolf: The Beast Among Us, Skinwalkers (2006), Blood and Chocolate (2007), Big Bad Wolf (2006), Wolfen (1981), Night of the Werewolf (1981)(that had the scariest looking WW). I love werewolf movies and watch them all even the bad ones. I can't tell you why this is my favorite but I think it may have something to do with the fact that it's canine, remains alive, and is mostly human. I also have a major soft spot for dogs so that maybe a connection.

José Arturo LMAO! Oh, what a delight! I was friends with the projectionist at our main public library back in the '80's & I had never seen this film. I LOVE my old Universal monster movies, & I was very opposed to watching Young Frankenstein because I was afraid that it would sneer at them --- my beloved old friends! My buddy got ahold of a copy & insisted that I watch it with him. Trust me, he said, you will LOVE this film! He knew my tastes really well, so I grudgingly consented to give it a try. I very quickly realized what a loving spoof it was. Mel Brooks obviously felt exactly the same way that I did about this material & also knew his sources really well. I have it on DVD now & watch it often, with great affection. Perfectly cast, perfectly played. And whenever I hear or read the word 'werewolf' I hear Teri saying "There wolf!". Did you ever notice that in the first scene the clock strikes 13 times? And would you like a roll in the hay? 👹

Great video. Cool list of films and also thanks for the historical explanation. One detail though; it's a common mistake or you might say a persistent myth, but the witch trials were NOT in the middle ages, but in the Renaissance, the period after the middle ages. The witch trials are associated with the period 1450 to 1750, and the case of the Bedburg werewolf you mentioned, was in 1589. The witch trials are culturally linked to the reformation (rise of protestantism) and counter-reformation: where Catholicism in a reaction to the reformation, became a much more formalised and 'exclusive' religion, in contrast to the more 'inclusive' umbrella phenomenon it had been before because of it not yet having any major competition from other religions. Under this 'battle' you might say between protestantism and Catholicism, a figurative and literal witch-hunt arose focused on people showing odd behavior and not conforming to religious dogmas. There was also an element of localized bursts of mass hysteria, see the Salem Witch trials in America, but also the witch hunts in for instance Germany and England (see Matthew Hopkins, who ironically fell into his own sword so to speak, in the end).

I’ve put this in comments for the Vampire & Ghost videos & I’m gonna add it here BCC3s Being Human which also had a brilliant transformation scene. When I was a kid, 5/6, there was a poem There’s a Werewolf at the end of my Road I saw in a book I wasn’t interested in the poem I liked the picture which had a little kid looking out the bedroom window at a Werewolf at the end of the road; this picture stuck in my head as I could see the end of my road from my bedroom window so I used to imagine there was a Werewolf when I closed the curtains because when the curtains are closed you don’t know what goes on outside.

Growing up, I watched a show called Big Wolf On Campus about a high school quarterback (Tommy Dawkins) who's bitten during a camping trip and becomes a werewolf. He then befriends the school's outcast gothic nerd (Mertin J. Dingle) to get more information on his situation and together they fight off supernatural evils in their town. It's silly and campy, but it's a show that knows exactly what it is and has fun with it and you can't help but be a little charmed by it. After seeing your list of film and television involving werewolves, I thought I'd give this show a mention since it's been largely forgotten and I'd really love to see more werewolf lovers give it a chance. 💖

Underworld did not start the Vampire vs Werewolf trend. That movie most likely got it from White Wolf publishing's Rage RPG in the 1990s. Rage is a wonderfully written RPG were the players play Werewolves of different tribes. White Wolf also had Vampire the Masquerade, an RPG were the characters played Vampires. These two RPGs took place in the same world. The books were written from their respective points of view. White Wolf had Mummy, Ghost, and Mage RPGs that also belonged to the same world. White Wolf used Literature, mythology, folk lore and film sources to inspire their world.

Primal urges that can dull out the thought processes to varying degrees in support of baser instincts is a real thing and I think it can make for good compelling beast within stories or at least an inspiration for werewolf sorts of stories. Biochemistry can be rather interesting. Slight irritation from an empty belly is one thing, but losing one's wits so far as to even lose the ability to speak for another sort of hunger is another thing entirely...

This 1956 movie is very good. I saw it along with Earth vs. the Flying Saucers at the drive-in movie. The story takes place in the rural Pacific Northwest. It had a lot of scenes on location, giving it a unique feeling of authenticity. The acting is good, the transformations were good given the special effects of the era. The only flaw is there is no logical reason for the bad guys to turn their patient into a werewolf.

Hi I've had this werewolf movie stuck in my head for the longest time now and I never got the name of it. It was about this highschool girl who gets a new next door neighbor that ends up being her new teacher. She suspects of him being a werewolf and is proven right after digging too deep. He goes on to attack the school and ends up biting this guy who is friends with the main character and has a crush on her. The guy and the teacher fight and the teacher ends up dying while everyone else lives their normal lives. It's a goofy "scary" movie and I personally enjoyed watching it late one night while staying up and flipping through some channels. If anyone knows the name please let me know as it'll help me put an end to this search. Thank you in advance!
