19:25 while i couldn't find a direct name. the Wario ware franchise really does owe a lot of its roots to Mario paint due to being made by the same studio RnD1. the first wario ware for GBA contains the fly swatter game as an unlockable, and Wario ware DIY for DS has a small paint studio with shares music from Mario paint. Mario polygon studio also contains a small mini game called Sound bomber which is the prototype of wario ware. the staff liked it so they started expanding it on their down time in secret before they got the OK to make it a full fledged game Wairo Ware. Added to the above mario maker 1 and 2 are 100% homages to mario paint with a lot of the same tongue in cheek humor and features.

12:37 Super Mario Bros. 3 was in fact the name for that game both inside and outside of Japan. "Lost Levels" was the name given to Super Mario Bros. 2 when it first debuted outside Japan as a part of the Super Mario All-Stars collection on the SNES, likely to avoid confusion due to the recycling of Doki Doki Panic as SMB2 outside of Japan. If you look at that promotional image of the game from Japan, you'll see スーパーマリオブラザーズ2, which is pronounced something like "Su-pa-Mario Buraza-zu 2" (Super Mario Brothers 2). I was definitely fascinated by the older Game & Watch style games I didn't even know existed! Thanks for the fun look at the weird Mario games! 👍

“Nintendo’s opinions of Americans is so low, they were like ‘nah, that’s too hard for them’.” Not quite. It was Nintendo of America and Howard Lincoln who made the decision not to release the Japanese version of SMB2 (which was not titled “The Lost Levels”, by the way). So the decision was made by the Americans themselves. Allegedly due to the difficulty, though no definitive sources for this exist (seems reasonably likely though).
