So fun fact. Right when I was at the peak of being done editing this (4/16/2024). Paizo announced 2 new classes will be added in 2025. Meaning we will have 27 CLASSES NOW. POST VIDEO JOKE UPDATE I GUESS.

they also have starfinder coming in 2025 so you (me and many others) can finally run a dark scifi game with actual scifi classes.

Golarion is an interesting world so looking forward to these videos. Especially since while I think I read the majority of the first edition source books, I haven't read any of the second, so it will be fun to see how things have progressed in the world. As for the Pathfinder setting, I've always found myself slightly torn on it as as individual countries and locations it is incredibly well done. However, that kitchen sink approach made the whole of it such a headache as none of it really fit together. Like at least in the first edition there were three to four existential threats active at the same time which doesn't even account for the major threats. It was a bit overwhelming to say the least.

By the way, while I think Wrath of the Righteous is an excellent, at least once Owlcat finally finished again rebalancing it from the base up, I do think Kingmaker has a better larger story. A big problem with Wrath, at least for me, is that Demons are really boring antagonists.

Thats fair and I'm intrested to hear how things have been changed. Cause like I said, I have no experience with 1e. At least in *my* experience I've not had those issues. But those can easily be the case of me not having an issue mashing together wildly different styles lol. I do love kitchen sink settings a lot. For the world threat problem, same deal. It feels more contained? But I'll have to see if that changes as I read more. Though that also is kinda the issue of big fantasy world with level 20 characters running around isnt it lol. At least they feel more like bbeg inspiration from what I have seen now more than "oh god oh fuck we need to kill this now." And when a world threat is introduced? They take their time with it and really let the world be impacted. Which is going on right now with War of Immortals. A god was killed and everyone is fighting now.

@@glueboy I do want to stress that there are a lot of parts of the Pathfinder world that I like, but as I was thinking about it after my comment, I realized that the issue is that Golarion itself lacks an identity. Which makes it difficult to have a strong opinion on it as a whole. For example, I adore the worlds of Ravenloft, Eberron and Dark Sun as while they have a lot of stuff, there is this connecting theme. Even Toril is kind of neat because it is coherent. Meanwhile, at least in first edition, you just had to go one country over from the Worldwound and people were pretty indifferent about the demonic incursion taking over just a couple of hills over while in another game that would be the whole setting. Having written that, I do actually still think it is well executed because the developers stuck to their vision. They wanted a world where you can have all kinds of stories and committed to that view. So while it coherent, it never really feels like it strides to be, which I think would be the worst situation.

Which I think is a totally fair takeaway. And at the end of the day is a matter of taste more than anything. I can vibe with that but understand how it can be an issue for others. Its the exact same deal with me and World of Darkness. That setting kinda falls apart when you combine each game into one world tbh but I enjoy the big overly connected clown world lol. Having spoken to Paizo devs it feels like a lot of it comes down to casting a large net to give players and GM's the most possible things to use in the game. Tones, genre, styles, cultural influences, ect. The descriptor of it being a kitchen sink setting was described to me by Senior Designer James Case in an interview I did with him on my friends channel. Thats where I pulled a lot of my beginning of the video lol. Then its just up to us players/gms on how we use it. I think the easy solution is to just stick to one or two nations for a campaign setting lol. Keep it more coherent and avoid that problem you mentioned.

Yoooo you already know I'm a Pathfinder guy. There's so much freedom in the class/feats/archetypes system for very flavorful characters that play very distinctively outside of roleplay moments. It might be a little daunting for new players, but I'm in the process of putting together a series of loosely connected one-shots in order to let my friends test out a smorgasbord of characters while I dip my toes into GMing before we commit to a full campaign And thank you for mentioning Archives of Nethys, Pathbuilder, and Humble Bundle. They're an amazing resource that got me into Pathfinder very quickly. Couldn't recommend them enough. Now I gotta check out BadLuckGamer and see what's up over there. Pathfinder is one of my favorite games for literally all those reasons you mentioned. And I hope you find some more useful stuff from what I mentioned too! I know you've been delving into it. My friend's way deeper into the mechanics than I am so he's got a lot of fun build and game knowledge to take inspiration from.

There should be some new rules soon to do that if I'm right that you mean a drow/spider mix? I'm not as well versed in some D&Disms lol. Howl of the Wilds will give more beast and beasthybrid ancestry rules. As well as were-creature rules. Though will say, no more drow in Golarion. There was some tricky legal shenanigans from WotC with the OGL and they removed anything that had crossover with Dungeons and Dragons. But also P2e doesnt have drow. The closest thing is just Cavern Elves. Which are elves that live in caves, but not the same thing societally.

Immensely. I like all the stuff in P1e, but I really bounce off the mechanics of older mechanics in both that version of Pathfinder and Starfinder.
