In an incredibly loose sense, they just have a main common enemy. For two reasons. Lore reason is both sides think they are chosen by God. So they are the one who will defeat the Satanic threat. Any blessing to the other side is interpretated as tool given to help further distract the enemy with the disposable army. Like when the Iron Sultanate got the wall, the Christians were like "oh sick, now its a two front war. Thanks God!" The more meta reason is because there needs to be a justification why every faction can fight each other/themselves. Its the nature of war games. Only game I know off the top of my head that doesn't let you do ditto battles or allow factions to fight freely is the LotR game. Only good guys vs bad guys there. For higher play you are basically required to own 2 armies on either side.

For this game there are multiple reasons. Some people are just evil, so they join the side that lets them act freely. Others are born in their lands, so they are raised being a satanist. They believe it wholeheartedly and run the gambit of regular people who do horrific things. Or home grown psychopaths. Then lastly just desperation. The Trench Crusade world state is rough. So some just joined what they see as the winning team so they don't die. We don't know too much about God, or the afterlife in this setting yet. Cause technically this is a different god than ours. So the Christian or Muslim faith are different. So we don't know the criteria for heaven. Or if people even get to go to heaven in the first place.

Oooh yeah thats a really good point! They better have a cool clash with all of this. Also idk if it has happened yet, but I also wanna see Fulgrim hit with that realization that Guilliman is revived. Just a little knife twist to his pride. Which is the most fun part about Fulgrim is him dealing with failure. Also agreed Fulgrim does feel like a good central figure for Chaos. If they drop a book like that I want it immediately. Not an Arks of Omen style thing, I want a full book lol.

@@glueboy Completely agreed that that clash needs to be a huge book in itself. Also all the Chaos Primarchs know that Guilliman had returned, they specifically mention them sensing it in the warp in the battle report/whatever about Guilliman's return. That is actually where that reference to Fulgrim's gift comes from. Once Gulliman came back, during the triumph celebrating it, one of the leaders of Macragge presented him with a laurel. But when Roboute put it on his head, he got a vision about his future glories, about how his armies and the Empire would essentially worship him as the god that he deserves to be considered as with everything leading him taking the Golden Throne. Of course this being Bobby G, he noped hard at these thought and ripped the laurel of his head. At which point Fulgrim sent a telepathic message about his disappointment of Guilliman having been able to to resist the Crown he sent, which contained a part of Fulgrim's essence. But Fulgrim was still content because Guilliman would face countless temptations and after this could never allow himself to be satisfied for being able to resist them due to fear that was the first step to prideful corruption. That battle report is derided for a reason, but it has a couple of really cool moments like that.

They're in the pipeline, but the devs want to get all the Kickstarter stuff done and dusted first. Also in the pipeline are Hebrew Knights, Templars, and Vampires!

As a side comment, I do have to make an addition to how the Emperor's Children were scattered as the video skips an important event. After Fulgrim departed, Eidolon actually managed to hold the legion together pretty well after claiming to have received a vision from Fulgrim. Under his leadership, majority of the legion took over Harmony and created Canticle City there which was supposed to be the most perfect place in the existance. From there, they raided and attacked other legions, still maintaining a lot of power in the internal strife of the Eye of Terror. The point when they lost everything was after they stole Horus's body as a sign of disrespect. This lead to a chain of sequences that ended with Abaddon destroying Harmony, which in turn was the pivotal moment when the Emperor's Children became so dispersed that they no longer presented an organized threat.

I would say Lord of Excess does a very poor job showing off the legion to the point that with minor changes it could be any generic warband.

My full love for Fulgrim and EC is held back by not being intrested in Slaanesh stuff. (Except the corrupting lead up is always dope) I'm always really into Fulgrim and Bile, so things working through their POV work best. Except when they bungle Fulgrims stuff partway through that off screen shit lol. GW has an eternal problem having the EC operate in such a cool way, which it doesnt feel like they stick the landing very much. You do make a fun pitch for Lord of Excess with that lol. Kinda wanna see how it goes off the rails now. Also good point with the Horus body robbing. I did space on that one story beat. Funnily enough *also* explained pretty well in the Bile trilogy. Man does a lot of reflecting on his actions there and you are fully emersed in the aftermath.

@@glueboy Oh, trust me, Lords of Excess doesn't get bad in a remotely interesting way. It kind of just whiffs more than anything on the larger plot. It isn't a bad book in a way where it is hilarious to explain what happened to someone else even if going through it was a chore. It does, though, have a couple of plot points that might turn out relevant in the larger story. Biggest of them being that one of the warband is a new EC who they just got from Bile. And they constantly point out how much bigger, stronger, faster and sturdier this new marine is compared to the veterans. Also how much he looks like Fulgrim, to the point that there is a moment in the story where the main EC character watches the new guy in action and is so stunned by the similarity that he literally mutters "Father?". And yes, this book was published after Genefathers where Bile figured out how Cawl had created the Primaris marines. The hint of that answer being quite tantalizing in itself.

@glueboy highly recommend it dude. Necropolis (book number 3) currently ranks as my favourite 40k novel and thats after I had read the Night Lords trilogy, Helsreach, Eisenhorne and Storm of Iron

There are 2 newer ones! One that is attempting to run Bloodlines in Skyrim's engine of all things lol. And the other is the Clan mod. Aint perfect imo (some quests and new encounter feel buggy) but its a fun change of pace.

You're right lol. Misremembered the project. Yeah I think they're making 2 versions of it. One where its super faithful recreating VTM Redemption and the other giving a more open world experience.

I like both banes. At least the 5e version lol. But the variant bane for Ravnos is my favorite. I don't really like variant banes with how strict to WoD's lore I prefer to be. But that one? I consider interchangeable. Honestly just because mechanically speaking it works better for a ttrpg.

Theres more evidence. Jack in the game has shown up in other books. He directly says he has met Caine. Which he does, in the final cutscene he meets the Cab Driver. If you use Auspex the cab driver gives of the same aura color for vampires. Both the Malkavian playthrough and the future seeing girl reference 'The Father.' That girl directly describes the ending cutscene with Jack and the Cab Driver while calling him the Father. The Malk dialogue goes further with what I mention, directly referencing Then to get meta, his file references in the game for textures/audio all use the name Caine. So its a pretty done deal. I didn't lay this all out as extensively because it would have ruined the pacing of my ending bit.
