Thanks to Matthew, its first time even I got to see this Vijayantimala classic song and dance piece. She is my all time favourite dancer - actress. She was a highly trained in classical dance - Bharatnatyam from South India. always very agile and graceful and it shows in all of her dance numbers. Its really surprising I never got to see this. Maybe KZbin never recommended it to me. This is the type of song that could be a favourite among very few people, especially Lata M and Vijayantimala fans, while the masses (vast majority of the people) are generally ignorant of it. Lata M's flawless rendition of this classical piece makes it extraordinary. Bollywood was so inspiring in those days!

the scene shows she was expecting some one else in that character and seeing someone else she was shocked and stopped dancing so he said continue dancing. the play i think shows apsara name Menka(the devine dancer of swarg ,heaven of devtas the demi gods) and sage vishvamitra. she was sended by Indra the king of Demi gods to attract him with her beauty so he cannot completes his tapasya(penance) because he was going to ask for swarg for himself from God. she succeeded as per the story we heard and lived with him several years and gave birth to a daughter and went back to swarg , daughter name was Shakuntala and on her sons name India after jambu dweep name it is pronounced Bhaarat on the name of king Bharat .

She is trying to portray the Vishwamitra , Menaka episode from Hindu religious story . Vishwamitra was a great saint / Sage , who was undertaken great meditation and hardship ( tapasya) to attain superior 'Siddhis' powers / accomplishments - fearing that if he succeeded in his Tapasya , Vishvamitra might become very powerful the god of Demi gods , Indra send divine Apsara ( beautiful women of heaven who are experts in dancing and other arts of seducing and pleasing men ) to distract Vishwamitra from his meditation and thereby corrupt the Tapasya that he had undertaken.
