Movie Description - A father becomes worried when a local gangster befriends his son in the Bronx in the 1960s.
The Bronx, New York, 1960. 9-year-old Calogero grows up admiring and fascinated by the local mob boss, Sonny. Calogero's father, Lorenzo, wants to have nothing to do with the mob and does his best to keep his son away from Sonny and mob business. However, it may prove a losing battle.
One man lives in the neighborhood, another man owns it. A devoted father battles the local crime boss for the life of his son.
A Bronx Tale is a 1993 American coming-of-age crime drama film directed by and starring Robert De Niro in his directorial debut and produced by Jane Rosenthal, adapted from Chazz Palminteri's 1989 play of the same name. It tells the coming of age story of an Italian-American boy, Calogero, who, after encountering a local Mafia boss, is torn between the temptations of organized crime and the values of his honest, hardworking father, as well as racial tensions in his community.

Fun Fact - At 0:17 you can see a police officer blocking off the public as they watch the scene being filmed Oh and that isn’t Rob Schneider by the way, all the bikers are actually Hell’s Angels members AFTER SERIOUS DEBATE: According to google ‘Youse’ is the correct way to spell, you commenters were right. It’s a common New York term and it’s spelt like that, not like “you’s” as most people would spell it.

In an interview, Chazz mentioned something important- the men in the back room were hardened criminals. They had done time in Sing Sing and Attica. Sonny hired them as muscle, but mostly they just hung out. They did nothing for weeks at a time. They were DESPERATE to prove their worth. So, when the opportunity presented itself, they often went overboard. They did their job.

I remember him touching on that, and I have a vague memory of this scene being based on an actual event that took place per something that I watched a few years back. I wish I could remember the details but I think it involved either the Colombos or gambinos? it may have even been from an interview with Chaz. I just started looking around and hopefully I will find it again.

@Steve Lyons don’t sound so pious. The land you live on was is stolen and built off the blood, sweat and tears of indigenous people and African slaves. The atrocities committed are considered war (crimes) today and your forefathers were deemed traitors by the British. And I know, I know, “That was a long time ago” right? But you still benefit off these crimes against humanity and the world power (The British Empire) at the time. Point is, everybody does some dirt or excepts the benefits of it. Those Italians may be “criminals”, but they minded their own for the most part and didn’t go to other neighborhoods busting up bars.

Sonny really was more than reasonable with the bikers in this scene. They brought everything on themselves. He gave them the benefit of the doubt that they were just there for a few beers and welcomed them into the bar. He was even going to allow them to leave unscathed after spraying the beer until they straight up refused. From Sonny's perspective, they really gave him no choice but to handle things the way he did.

He handled it perfectly. Most of the biker gang types I've encountered were extremely polite. They didn't want negative interactions to potentially draw unwanted attention. If he had turned them away it would give other gangs a reason to come back wanting trouble. Locking them in the bar and handling things gives everyone else a reason to stay out of any beef this group has.

My grandfather's Italian restaurant was a mafia hangout and the preferred hangout of several 1950s/1960s Yankees, and this kind of thing never went down simply because no one was insane enough to try it, but I've heard some crazy stories about the guys who used to go there. Joe DiMaggio was a big regular as well. I loved my gramps, he died in 2006 at 95 years old. He was one of those old school Italian guys who didn't share his feelings and could be a grouch, but he helped put me through college and I know he loved me even though he wasn't able to express it.

I love this movie! The casting was brilliant! Not to mention The Best Movie Line EVER!......"Now you's can't leave..." The icy cold look Chazz Palminteri gives before he locks the door and delivers that line is absolutely chilling. I can watch it over and over just for that look and delivery. Then the beat down with no guns and the neighborhood boys pitching in is nostalgic of everybody looking out for each other...racism aside. But that's how it was. I have tears every time Sonny dies and the funeral scene is so touching. Especially when Joe Pesci makes his cameo! The whole movie is a great coming of age story based on Mr. Palminteri's childhood and a certified CLASSIC! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I was born in the Bronx and I grew up at around the exact time this film is set. It comes really close to depicting the time period accurately. I also know that this film was shot in Astoria, Queens but they did a great job of capturing the backdrop. Bikers really were big at that time and near my block, on Jerome Avenue, there were always rows and rows of bikes parked outside of Gary's bar & grill. That's another thing that was big back in those days, bar & grills. I didn't know it back then, but I'm pretty sure that today I can tell you who the connected guys were. A great scene, in a great film.

It's a movie it's fiction even if it's based off of reality. It's still fiction. In reality Sonny would have probably been stabbed when he locked the door because no biker gang who comes into a bar and looking to trash the place isn't going to stand there looking dumbfounded because some guy locked a door and said "Now yous can't leave". I grew up around bikers.
@ZargonUSA
@ZargonUSA 2 жыл бұрын
@@OGKZbinEnjoyer Well, I guess you don't know that "real" bikers called 'Hells Angels' are not as rough and tough as they're made out to be, they can be if provoked, but they DON'T and NEVER will go out their way looking for trouble, even though they look and sound badass, they're really soft as crap and will even help the elderly and disabled if need be, I know, I used to be a member of a chapter in the UK. Bar fights? I've been in a few, they have their own laws, and yes they do abide by local laws too, not like the trouble making so called 'bikers' here in the US and other places, for example, you NEVER come on to a bikers ol' lady, or even rape one, if you do, then be prepared to suffer the consequences, especially if you rape one, the guys stay out of it and watch as every woman beats you silly. So, the so called 'bikers' you associated with actually give the REAL Hells Angels a bad reputation and name, and that's why when a chapter of real Hells Angels ride into town, everyone either hides or calls the cops, hence the reason why most chapters have their own bar, and meeting places, and a chapter of REAL Hells Angels wouldn't ride into town just to trash the place and cause trouble, they are the same as anybody else, and can even be polite, what if they changed their clothes to suits and ties, shaved , and hiding their bikes, before going into a bar, and still get drunk and rowdy, would you still call them trouble makers? If yes, then you can call EVERYBODY that goes to a bar a trouble maker.

My uncle owned a bar in Akron, Ohio in the 70s called the Keg & Bottle. He had to rent all his pinball machines, cigarette dispensers and the jukebox from the local mobsters. He also had to pay them to keep the local biker gangs from breaking up the place. Despite this, the place was a real trouble spot so he eventually sold it.
