A very dear Thai Buddhist friend came to church with me and was converted the first time she heard the gospel. She was sitting next to me sobbing. The next week she took communion, turned to me with a radiant smile and said ‘first time!’ A fantastic experience for me. She has now been baptised and has been to two theology courses. She has lost some of her Buddhist friends but is very strong in her Christianity. Praise the Lord!

Jainism and Hinduism developed after 3rd century BCE because Alaxander the great supported Brahamins to destroy the Buddhist kindoms in India. I am so glad you're walking with the Lord now. I had a very similar background story. However, I eventually came back to The Church. There were several historical and theological reasons for my decision, but mostly it was for the Real Presence in the Eucharist. I used to go to protestant congregations for the lively preaching and music, and those things are important. But now I go to Church to be in the presence of Christ at the mass. "from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye have profaned it, in that ye say, The table of the LORD is polluted; and the fruit thereof, even his meat, is contemptible" (Malachi 1) The mass is being celebrated every minute of every day somewhere on earth. That in itself is a miracle. Hope to see you there! Peace be with you.

Such an inspiring testimony. I recently (last few years) discovered the very subtle dark forces hidden within Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism....etc. Over the years, I met a variety of monks, through events at Yoga studios. They were all so peaceful. I deeply admired them for their dedication. They were humble, kind, and compassionate humans. But then i started to see the emptiness within their belief system. Most notably, I noticed that Buddists do not address evil. Not directly. They chant and pray, but they do not take action to stop evil. That was an eye opener. And Buddhism does not recognize marriage...fidelity...family values...as a holy institution. Marriage is secular in Buddhism. Its quite empty when you dive deep into it. A sad empty....because the participants/practitioners generally have good intentions. Prayers for the truth to be revealed to all who are ready, willing, and able to receive.

Sounds like a non Buddhist talking about Buddhism. Buddhism is as profound and often deeper in meaning than religions that weave fairy tales to convert mentally sick people. Buddhism doesn’t peddle this conversion thing like other religions do either. Buddhism does have guideline for married couples and values for marriage and there are examples of married couples whose life Buddha has used in his teachings. Seen as a scared thing in Buddhism tooo. Describes duties of a husband towards a wife and duties of a wife towards a husband. People call Buddhism empty because it says there’s no happy ending or god waiting to invite you to a better life. Buddhism goes more in the lines of philosophy and stoicism and inward reflection as world we see is created from within us by our senses. But the ability to let go is the thing that gives pure joy … Not holding on to things tighter… hopefully with age you’ll realize that most things are bound to change n a lot of those those changes r out of our hands… holding on to those things will only bring sadness and suffering.

@@dimensionninja4929 Christianity philosophically doesn’t share much with stoicism … it revels more in rituals and prayers directed towards n outward entity than having internal reflections or self realizations. “God created the world” concept shows the basis of external emphasis of Christianity. following someone so you can go to another place hv more stuff after death seems like the opposite of letting go. Well to each their own, but I do think the conversions are underhanded. In my country they used to ask people to convert to be exempt from taxes and have access to education. When everyone thinks their god is the one true god … for ppl to coexist freely I think ppl need to keep their gods to themselves and respect the feelings of others towards theirs. Middle East is a good example of ppl being unable to accept that other ppl believe their religion as much as they believe theirs…. Not a good thing at all.

What an incredible transformational testimony! How she described her "second confession" articulates the experience I had a few years ago. During the first semester of my graduate program at Liberty University, I was confronted with developing my worldview. Learning how a Theistic Worldview differed from a Biblical Worldview and what it really meant to hold such a Worldview really took me on a truth discovery about the cannon and Apologetics in general. I was deeply convicted and felt like a fraud writing about Theological topics while not fully accepting all of scripture as inspired by God. It didn’t help that my agnostic husband was also planting seeds of doubt, as far as scripture goes. In my mind I only had two options, completely abandon my faith or 100% embrace God’s Word as truth and fully trust Christ in ALL areas of my life (not just one compartment I open up when I see fit). So I researched like crazy and had already begun praying for God to help me in my unbelief and cultivate the desire for His Word. The day I contemplated turning from my faith, I felt empty and in despair, I cried out to Jesus saying “I can’t leave you, where would I go?” and it was as if His arms wrapped around me and His spirit consumed me. My cries of fear turned to cries of uttermost joy and peace. I shared the experience with my husband, telling him I could no longer be a “lukewarm” Christian and that I wouldn’t know how to go on living if I gave up on my faith. While he doesn’t share the same beliefs, he hugged me and told me he would never want that for me and that he fully supports my decision. Ever since that day, I’ve read God’s Word daily and He has given me the desire to pursue Him above all things and to change my ways to conform to His way! I will say that this new (or second confession, how Dr. Lim puts it) and drastic transformation I had through my mindset and the desire for Christ, made me doubt my prior salvation, even though the most Godly people in my life assured me otherwise. I still struggle with the whole concept of once saved always saved.

Thank you for sharing this. Why do you doubt “once saved always saved”? Theres a difference between someone appearing saved and being saved. “Appearing” is like what you described: partly accepting Gods word or only viewing the Bible as a rule book without true relationship with the Lord. But salvation is a true gift that isn’t lost. It takes me back to the verse that says “He who began a good work in you is faithful to complete it”. I don’t know if you were saved back then but we aren’t in “back then” right now. We are here now and if you’re saved now, just remember that the same way that it is only by the Holy Spirit that men are drawn to Him is the same way that we are kept by Him.

Jesus saves you because you are accepting and believing him. He never forces himself on anyone. This is why once saved always saved is not true. You always have a choice. Korea became Catholic in 1784 prior to any involvement with the West. Later autocratic rulers in Korea limited its expansion, but there is still a strong Catholic population in Korea. St. Andrew Kim Taegon, Paul Chong Hasang, and Companions are celebrated Catholic saints and martyrs. They were among the 8,000 to 10,000 Korean Catholic Christians killed for refusing to deny Christ.

This testimony is so profound! Her sceptical mind kept her delving deeper into the truth. The supernatural nature of the Holy Spirits work on her heart was inspiring, but I’m moved by her capacity to delve deeper into the foundations of the Bible. Hallelujah! Such a wonderful testimony! Praise God for His goodness towards us. And I agree with you Dr. Susan, we need a revival, and must pray fervently for one. I’m so glad your parents and your sister have found God and believe in Jesus. The part about your dad not wanting to give up the practice of feeding your ancestors really touched my heart. It’s sad how the devil wants to bind us to lies. The Bible teaches that all of our ancestors are dead and know nothing (Eccl 9:5,10; Psalm 6:5; Psalm 115:17). Our reward, whether good or bad, will be received when Jesus comes back (Rev 22:12; 1Thess 4:16). Also, the part about your sister saying she wouldn’t talk to you again if you talked about Jesus was quite funny to me, especially considering her believing in Jesus now. Hahaha God is good! And as a loving sister, you warned her not to take the mark of the beast; God bless you! An interesting truth about the mark of the beast that I have learned is that it’s not a literal mark, since most of the book of Revelations is symbolic. Just like the beasts aren’t literal but rather kingdoms and earthly powers, the mark of the beast as revealed in Rev. 13:16-17 isn’t literal but rather about worship. The seal of God which is the true Sabbath as instituted by God and proclaimed in the 4th commandment will be attacked by the devil as he brings a counterfeit sabbath and eventually coerce people to observe it, hence the no buy or sell. It’s a deep study and I’m grateful that God reveals His truth in His word. Praise God! Rev 14:9-10 9 Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone *worships* the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.

I'm an agnostic trying to come to faith. Though I have many concerns. I just cannot get past the concept of hell and eternal separation, specifically because they didn't accept Jesus before they died. Even if I did accept Jesus and was a believer, what if my son was a good person but never came to faith (not resistant, just wasn't convinced)? I can't believe that I'll never see him in heaven.

Ryan, I hear you, but God only ever does the just thing. You can trust him. Believe it or not He loves you and He loved the members of your family even more than you ever could! God doesn't want anyone to be lost. It's OK to believe and still not know everything. God bless you as you travel.
@lowhandlagum Жыл бұрын
I understand your feelings. Just the concept of never seeing your loved ones again is something that is hard to take. But no matter how we feel, the truth never changes. The main thing is to seek what that truth is. Jesus is truth itself. Jesus said that He is the way, the truth, and the life and that no one can come to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). There is no other way except through Jesus. There is no other way to salvation (Acts 4:12). The Lord doesn't want anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9) - including you and your son. Jesus came to this world and was willing to suffer and to die for us, so that we could be saved and be reconciled to God. He did that because He loved us so much. The most famous verse, John 3:16, tells us that God SO loved the world, that He gave us His only Son, so that we would not perish. He loves you and your son... As Dr. Lim shared...once she was saved, eventually her parents, who were resistant to Jesus, also came to believe. I believe it can be the same with you. Hope you may find the Lord. Those who seek Him shall find Him (Jeremiah 29:3, Matthew 7:8)

I was hoping to learn more about Buddhism so I could better talk with my “atheist” friend who mentioned, ‘if he were to believe in anything it would be Buddhism because he somehow likes the idea of emptying yourself of all desire’. I know very little about the religion so I thought it would be good to know more. What I hear very clearly in her story is that I don’t really need to study the counterfeit, just keep loving and lifting up Jesus, the Word of God.
@andrewferg8737 Жыл бұрын
"it would be good to know more" --- Indeed. Traditional Buddhism is atheistic, although this is generally not followed. In practical terms, you will find Buddhists often believe in different types of gods or spirits adopted from other cultural traditions. Aside from being atheistic, the central conflicts from a classical theology perspective are the Buddhist teachings on Karma and Nirvana. That is, Buddhist ethics and religious practices are not the issue, but rather their theology. Karma does correctly indicate that actions have consequences, but at a fundamental philosophical level Karma has no explanation for the suffering of innocents. A child with leukemia is simply working out bad karma from a previous life. By extension then, Christ on the Cross is nonsense in terms of karma, because bad things simply don't happen to innocent people. Nirvana refers to "blowing out the candle". The goal of the traditional Buddhist is not to become good, but rather to not exist at all. All desire and form must be extinguished to achieve nirvana and thus end suffering. From a Catholic perspective, nirvana is spiritual suicide. The goal of life should be to become more like Christ, not to disappear into nonbeing. There are many noble truths and ethical practices in Buddhism, but their central teachings are fatally flawed. "In hope, the Church prays for all men to be saved" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 1821) Peace be with you.

@@cardi-jo I would strongly recommend looking up a book or youtube channel of a practicing Buddhist, ideally a qualified teacher, if you really would like to learn more about the practice as the summary provided by andrewferg8737 is somewhat inaccurate in several respects (no offence intended, just speaking as a student/practitioner of Soto Zen Buddhism myself - and certainly in our lineage many of these points do not reflect our understanding).

This was a great I interview with Susan. The video should had been titled, "When a Buddhist family converts into Christians!" When I was around the age of 17, God prevented me from pursuing Buddhism and I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior at 19 years old. I was still young and dumb and looking back, it took me about 40 years of walking around in this dessert of a world, before I truly came to grips with what God has done for me. So shortly before I turned 60, I re-dedicated my life to serving God in any way He can use me with all the talents and wisdom He has blessed me with. Dr. Lim's story is another testimony of how great God is and the works that He gets done through different people from all walks of life.

Sean, I would love to know how Susan answers her own questions now. Especially about Jesus saying to hate your father and mother, because I know that honoring your parents is such a huge cultural thing in Asian and eastern belief systems. I am curious because I wish to share the gospel with my Buddhist friends. I think I would point out that he came to fulfill the law and proclaim its truth. So if we are to honor our parents, then he clearly didn't literally mean to hate them, but rather to put God above them.
@wingedinfinity777 Жыл бұрын
I hear Jesus saying in that to understand the extreme importance in exactly what you said, to first and foremost always put God above anything else, including our families. Salvation off of this God-forsaken planet is serious business, and this is what Jesus was emphasizing. I see this more and more these days, how family members, church members, friends, and even jobs will be the tradeoff for many eternal lives.
@Roma-137 Жыл бұрын
I love the explanation of the person before me but I’ll also add that Jesus loved his father in heaven and also respected his earthly caretaker Joseph and worked with him as a carpenter and looks like he adored his earthly mom Mary where he would go to a wedding with her and listened to her to help and do a miracle at the wedding even before it was his time to work like that. So Jesus showed us first hand to respect and love your family but seems like we live in a world where some are just against God and those could be our own parents and siblings and cousins. In these cases, you put God above all. You pray for your family but if they insist to rebel then you listen to God and not family members even if it’s parents. In Susan’s case her family converted and believed but there are people who just choose not to and that will cause some trouble of course.

I suggest looking into different methods of reprogramming your subconscious, which the Bible talks about. Meditation is super powerful, and also taking courses such as "Freedom in Christ" - to get a better understanding of who you really are, not what the bad programming has taught you. We are driven by our subconscious, which is connected to our Soul. The Bible compares our soul prospering to being well. It also speaks heavily about renewing the mind. God Bless you with the mind of Christ 💥💕✝️💕💥

I went to Catholic school in Baltimore, MD, as a child. The nuns and lay teachers were not allowed to hit us or administer physical punishments. They were strict, but they weren’t mean. In 7th grade, I remember Sister Mary Gonzaga saying to us, “You can just know about Jesus, or you can really know Jesus. You all need to examine yourselves. Do you really know Jesus or do you just know about Him.” The worst discipline we ever got was from Sister Regina in 3rd grade. She was having discipline problems with the class so she marched us over to the church and made us kneel and pray through the rosary aloud 4 times.
