Sir Patrick Stewart and Jeri Ryan talk to BBC Radio 1's film critic Ali Plumb about new Star Trek series Picard where they return as Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Seven of Nine. Plus the joys meeting fans in costume, the perils of wearing spandex and what it's like to become a meme 🤦‍♂️

@@deanwoodford2017 I disagree, I watched that whole interview with a smile on my face, he was nice and easy going with the pair. Plus I think the pair were pleasantly surprised to get interviewed by someone who didn't go full Star Trek nerd on them. It's a shame that the interview was not longer and they could have discussed some of Patrick's earlier film work on Excalibur and Dune.

I have been a huge fan of Sir Patrick Stewart's character Jean Luc Picard since watching star trek as a kid in the 90's and rewatching the whole series start to finish now and I find it hilarious that until I heard him mention him taking a stroll with his wife just now, I had thought for decades that Patrick Stewart was gay! WIFE?! Why did I think he was gay for all these years?! Can someone help answer this for me? I thought he was dating Ian McKellen so that could be the reason LOL

@Suffer No Fools No, he _actually watched the show_ and saw that she got the best scripts, the most interesting character development, and actually played the role very skillfully. I was at the last Con appearance of Ray Bradbury and the story he told goes: He would be walking around and people would come up to him saying: “Mr. Roddenberry? We had heard you were deceased.” (The Star Trek producer had actually died some time ago) Bradbury would assure them, “no, still alive. I hope you are doing well.” They would then ask for his autograph and Bradbury would sign it as Roddenberry.

A gf back when TNG was first syndicated everywhere, absolutely adored Capt Picard. It's kind of amazing how a person is able to portray a fictional character in such a way as to touch so many. So funny how Sir Stewart is talking about his costume being too tight. She also had to take regular breaks so she could breathe properly and they had an air tank on standby for her.

Years ago, about 10-15 years after "The Next Generation" ended my wife and I attended a church for the first or second time. The service had just begun when a couple entered and sat down behind us. I turned around to make sure our coats, which were draped over the back of our chairs, were not in their way. I took a double take as the man was a dead ringer for Patrick Stewart. When the service ended we turned around to get our coats and we introduced ourselves to this couple. They didn't look like likely Star Trek fans to me. I then started to ask the man "Has anyone ever . . . .?" and they both cut me off and said in unison "all the time!" We attended that church for years and saw them in town from time to time. Sometimes I would just say to him, "well captain, how is your day?"
