Ridiculous comments. The show didn't suddenly change when Seven arrived, nor did it become more mature in tone. Voyager was actually the most consistent Trek show of them all, with great episodes from the beginning, unlike other Trek series which had a poor first couple of seasons. Seven was certainly a great character who brought a lot to the show, and it could be argued that the show had many of its best episodes in the 4th and 5th seasons after she joined, but I'd say the big boost to the show was the evolution of the Doctor, who in season 4 now had his mobile emitter so could get involved in more interesting storylines. Some of the most successful stories are centered around the Doctor such as "Tinker Tenor", or "Blink of en Eye" - or even episodes where the Doctor is removed from Voyager entirely such as "Living Witness" and "Message In A Bottle". I won't deny that Kes was a poor character. And Seven (and the Borg aspect of the show) is certainly PART of why Voyager was great. But she didn't "save a terrible show" as these comments are suggesting.
@megavolt673 ай бұрын
@@Scripture-Man Consistent as in formulaic since the Berman formula was so well established by then. TNG had its growing pains but that was part of what made it more interesting seeing how great it became (and it's my all time favorite TV series). DS9 took "inspiration" from Babylon 5 and expanded upon the Cardassian and Bajoran stuff from TNG but it did eventually figure out its own identity. Voyager for the first few seasons felt like the B-sides of TNG (and once again opened with Bajor-related drama). That's not a bad thing per se, but Seven helped the show to develop more of a noticeable sheen. She was sympathetic while still being a badass. And looking attractive doesn't hurt. I agree that the evolution of the Doctor helped as well and I figure most people would say those two were the most interesting characters. It is curious though that the producers of both DS9 and Voyager felt the need to make big fourth season changes in attempts to kindle more interest. Both shows never reached TNG levels of success and I think part of the reason is that people felt a bit fatigued by the Berman formula post-TNG, though being so far from the late 90's, people now wish we had thoughtful and yet grounded sci-fi like that again.

I got my wife hooked on this show eventually, and one day we went out and I started talking borg-7-of-9-ish with her. She went along and the whole conversation was permeated with "Comply", "Elaborate", "It's Irrelevant", and so on! It was one of the best car rides with my wife!

So funny how Sir Stewart is talking about his costume being too tight. When Jeri Ryan couldn't sit down or turn her head and passed out a few times in it because it cut off the circulation to her carotid in her costume. She also had to take regular breaks so she could breathe properly and they had an air tank on standby for her.

@@JKArcade Of course they would. It's a part of the job in order to play the character. Just like accepting the risk of a building collapsing on top of them is a part of firefighter's job. Or facing armed, drugged criminals is a police officer's job. Or risk contracting strange, dangerous diseases (like the corona virus) is a part of physicians and nurses' job. Some people need to handle radioactive materials or extremely toxic chemicals as a part of their job. And then finally there are the soldiers, who can say dying is just a part of their job.

I was at the last Con appearance of Ray Bradbury and the story he told goes: He would be walking around and people would come up to him saying: “Mr. Roddenberry? We had heard you were deceased.” (The Star Trek producer had actually died some time ago) Bradbury would assure them, “no, still alive. I hope you are doing well.” They would then ask for his autograph and Bradbury would sign it as Roddenberry.
@araisikewai4 жыл бұрын
And later on when they really found out that Gene Roddenberry was really already dead, they can claim they got the autograph from his ghost. Brilliant.

My two _absolute_ favorite characters from the Star Trek universe! Picard goes without saying. Jeri Ryan made my jaw drop when she made her first de-borged appearance! At first, I had to watch the show just to see her in it. She did such an amazing job with her character, I eventually forgot about how stunning she was and enjoyed her character in the show! Very few characters in the televised ST universe had as much growth as her. Her observations, and wit, were fun to watch.
