For this gate I used the Mahogany 8x50's. But it's important to understand that with something freestanding like a gate, the dominoes should never be used for a structural joint. Here I used them for all of the pickets, as they are not crucial to the structural integrity of the gate. They do add strength to the gate, but the main stile and rail joinery is what will take a majority of the load, over the years.
