Thank you Bobbie. It is the simple things in life that we never give a second thought. Although we have pretty much always had the shower and a cold tap, there really is nothing quite like being able to run a tap to wash up or just turn on the washing machine. Happy new year and all the very best for 2024

Thank you so very very much, that means everything to me. We really need a plumber as we think we are going down the range with a back boiler route and that really is something I won't be playing with.... scolding water under pressure, too dangerous, so we need a proper job done with that. Thank you again for your lovely comment, you have stuck a huge smile on my face. Happy new year pitsnipe to you and all of your family and thank you for being here :-)

The first time for that kitchen to have running water, how amazing! My great grandfather did not have running water at all in his home up in Pennsylvania, however, there was a well pump on the porch right outside the kitchen. The stove had a tank you filled that was heated by the logs that heated the stove, so, he could have hot water. Baths, on Saturday night, was a tub in the kitchen filled with hot water from the stove. I can say Hallelujah for modern plumbing! So, does this mean you get to shower indoors soon? I just cannot imagine showering outside in winter. And Happy New Year!
@dorygeancunningham80278 ай бұрын
Oh, and there was no toilet, it was a chamber pot at night and an outhouse during the day. I am glad we only went to see him in the summer.
@thecornerhouseproject8 ай бұрын
Happy new year Dory, I hope you and your family had a lovely holiday. We when we first got here, we sometimes had to heat a large pot of water on the stove (Range) to wash with, but that was short lived and I got the water heater and shower setup. I would love a well, one with an electric pump for ease but a hand pump on the farmland for the animals, that would be great. We will see how the rain water harvesting goes first before making a decision on a well though as they are so expensive. A chamber pot, must say we haven't had to use one of those, but never say never as I am the plumber, so anything could happen with the water supply hahaha. A little spoiler.... the shower cubical is now in place but not connected yet. I need to pluck up the courage to stop our current shower to move the pump, water heater, gas bottle etc and hopefully get it all connected the same day. With out, not even the toilet flushes. Wish me luck. Thank you Dory for always being by our side and taking every step of our journey with us, no matter how far away you are :-)

Ben's hand coming through the wall reminded me of Thing in the Addams Family! 🤣Do you have a great veterinary surgeon in your area? Entropian is nothing to mess around with. I've had rescues with that condition. Basically, the eyelashes are rubbing against the eye as the eyelid is curled in. 😣 It's good to fix it ASAP so the cornea isn't permanently scarred and blindness or low-sightedness can occur. 💔 I'm sure you both know this, but others might not. ;-) Ben - AWESOME job on the plumbing!!! Have you seen the tankless hot water heaters? My Dad had one in his house. Flick a switch and really hot water comes out of the tap! It's a small unit that heats the water over a coil on demand.
@thecornerhouseproject8 ай бұрын
Hahaha, you are the second person to say that oddly enough. I think it was the flicking of the fingers to move the stuff out of the way. Poor little Alan and his eye. The vets we were advised to use by Marie, a complete animal lover, is amazing. They saw all three cats, vaccinations for the two kittens, and a check up for mum. She is fine, Steve is fine and it was then we found out Alan has Entropian. He is booked in for the 9th Jan to have it operated on. It may have to be done a second time when he has grown and is bigger. The vet seems to think his third eye may have helped protect his eyeball and vision a little bit, but we are so sad it wasn't detected when he was a little kitten. I promised them in the car on the way home from where we got them, that they would have the best life. We haven't told Alan he won't be having kids after he comes back from his op though, we will just let him think an eye op makes his man area hurt too hahaha. I went for the LPG gas water heaters as we didn't have electric and had no idea when we would get it. It also gives plenty of water flow and pressure for showers. I will have a look though as it could be handy under the sink. Thank you for joining us again and we hope you have a great 2024, whatever you do :-)

As you say big investment in the harvester box but as everyone can see, its housing everything in one, no need for cold water tanks and with its internal water tank you are getting near or higher mains pressure given an instant response. This also means the system is not constantly running so significantly lower running costs and longer lasting) Also it's obviously massively cheaper than the cost of getting mains water to the house. Having done many a wet room fit out I would say, and I think the majority of plumbers would say that the solvent fitting for waste pipe is the preferred option as once its leak free it stays leak free, and takes a lot less space than compression fittings especially beneath sinks etc.. In terms of your water fittings the majority of plumbers are now using press fittings but with tools costing €1500+ that is not a realistic option for the non professional. So if it is a self build I recommend tactite copper fittings, which gives you the look of a copper solder fitting but they are push fitting. In addition strongly recommend looking at qual-pex piping (made in Ireland) as it combines the flexibility and option to utilise either traditional 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch pipe and thus straight to the tap or you can get it in metric sizing and you can use the copper tactile push fittings. On some of the my latest specification projects the client are running 25m to 50m distance from manifold to end fitting without any joints and just a single fitting either end so can be easily hidden in service void without worries. Just to give my usual thoughts and recommendations. Just as an update I have just started on my qualification as a retrofit specifier to assist home owners on how to design and specify historical or non new build homes towards the ability to meet the Near Zero Energy standards as part of their home restorations.

Well I had typed a nice big reply to you and then, being in IT, pressed the wrong mouse button and lost it all.. so give me 5 minutes to calm down and I will start again........ And Breath! Right. You are spot on with the EsyBox Mini 3. From spotting from a website link you sent, and then as you know making the decision to get it, it was a brilliant decision. Installing it is as simple as 1, 2, 3 and you turn it on and water comes out, at speed and a long way. Currently set to 2.7bar, it is more than enough. With the possible en-suits, it may need increasing, but the EsyBox Mini 3 will go up to 5bar. More than enough. Good luck with you new qualifications but I can't see it being a struggle for you based on your knowledge and advice you have provided us in the past. Thank you very much. I do like the JG speed fit stuff for simplicity, but the bore is always reduced so much. 15mm is really an 8mm internal bore, nearly half the water. I am thinking of going either 22mm plastic or even to copper for a full bore. Good idea with the wire wool for the external pipework, certainly the lagging as we have froze once already about a month ago. There will only be IBC connectors and 1" agri pipe outside soon, so hopefully the mice won't be interested. Thanks Deran for watching and commenting so often :)

OMG Dec. 5th you were still showering outside - you are both tough as nails, no wimps in that house. I can't wait for your next video. What kind of Bathtub will you choose? I think looking to the future you should get a tub with a seat in it and a door that opens to get into it so it is a bath and a shower that is accessible to all stages of life. Showers are fine as long as there is a place to sit. Dad got to a point where he could no longer stand in the shower and My Mom had to start using a seat in the tub 2 years ago. Having a shower can change body temp in seniors making them dizzy and the biggest reason for falls in the bathroom. It's also good to have a soak as you get older as the skin gets dry and fragile, a nice bath improves circulation, reduces swelling, pain, aches, improves nervous system, mental health, breathing and reduces stress hormones. I'm rambling now because I am so excited for you to have hot running water inside the house. Well Done and Congratulations!!!

The general world-wide consensus is cold on the right but parts of the UK disagree I think.

Happy new years day to you and your mum :) Hot left and right seems to vary from house to house from past experience but there may be a rule of thumb which I don't know about. I don't know about much really if I am honest and make a lot of it up as I go along lol. 5th of December showering outside... PAH.... try January 1st and still going out there, hard as nails because the water has frozen our skin hahaha. It is lovely to come back into the kitchen where it is generally 20 degrees Celsius due to the range always being on. I like my heat :-) In a really nice way, is there anything you don't know something about in detail? We are just doing a shower for now as room is limited where the toilet / basin currently is. We thought about a bath with a shower riser in it, but then with all the steam under the stairs and the damp rising we changed our minds and have one with a shower capsule.... keep a look out for the video.... one day haha. A bath would be lovely to lay and relax in and to warm up on the really cold days, but until we sort the bedrooms for en-suit, we may just have a shower in place. My Mum got a seat for my Dad in the shower and has taken quite a liking to it herself. I never put 2 & 2 together with falls and a shower. I suppose in the bath you can't fall over. We like your ramblings, it also makes a change that it is someone else and not us. Don't get too excited just yet. Getting hot hot water from the kitchen tap comes from the fine art of making sure the water heater has kicked in and then reducing the flow from the tap. Wait about 30 seconds and you can't touch the water where it is so hot. Give me a little while and both water heaters will be in place and red hot water should be available quickly and at a good pressure. Not the word SHOULD hahaha. Thank you Janie as always for your knowledge and sharing for our benefit. We wish the very best for you and your mum in 2024 :-)

Can you put an insulated foam sleeve on your hot water pipe?
@thecornerhouseproject8 ай бұрын
Hi Kathleen, thank you for watching and commenting. We will do yes, but for the short time it will be where it is we will make do. Once the water pump is indoor and the water heaters the other side of the wall, the distance will be very short, but the pipes will be boxed in and insulated to retain heat and prevent freezing too. I talk the talk, now I just have to be brave and do it :) Thanks again and we hope you have a love 2024.

ben why dont you use a under sink water heater like they use in caravan and wellfare units
@thecornerhouseproject8 ай бұрын
It is a good question. The answer is that the gas water heaters can supply hot water at a rate of up to 18L a minute, so more than enough for a shower. When we first came in May to clear the house, we stayed in an AirBnB which had a electric shower. The pressure was so low it took even me an age to wash my hair. I promised Dawn that if nothing else, our shower would have more water pressure than that. With the second one setup, we will have great water pressure and heat too.

well ben is all glue up lol

Super glue is my arch enemy. The PVC cement isn't too bad, but great at sticking pipes. :-)

Question, can you use gray water (kitchen, sinks, shower) for watering plants & other uses?
@thecornerhouseproject3 ай бұрын
Good evening to you. I had to Google this as I was unsure, especially on fruit and veg. Redit says you can and the contents will be a benefit to the plants as well as saving water. To do this I would need to swap a bit of plumbing around, mop up the water I always get everywhere when plumbing and sort the grey water to go elsewhere so it is available for watering with. It isn't something that was on our list of things to do, but now that you have brought it to our attention, it is possible we could do it at a later date, so thanks very much for your question. Thank you also for watching and commenting :-)

A celebration indeed Robin, it has made such a difference, once again, to how we live in the house. Happy new year. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)

Wow, running water....will you have a well in the future?
@thecornerhouseproject8 ай бұрын
Hi Joan, Happy new year. We are going to see how the rain water harvesting works for us and then decide. Even with the grant being available for a well to be bored, we would still need the funds up front before being able to claim back up to 80%. The grants are fantastic, providing you have the money available to afford it in the first place, which at present, it was electric or a well. The electric won lol. We will see though. We are really hoping the rainwater will work though. It is a case of being able to store enough water to cover the periods of no rain fall. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)

Hi Ben, have you done a video about your water heater? I’m looking for something for our renovation Richard @bramblecottageuk

I haven't Richard but am due to setup the second water heater as a pre-heater so I will record that for you. :-)

@@thecornerhouseproject Thanks. We don't have mains gas at our reno project so I'm looking for a good alternative to electricity. Richard
@thecornerhouseproject8 ай бұрын
Our water heater runs on LPG, one of the big ones. An alternative would be oil and a boiler to suit.
