A Change of Plan Roving Chub Session Chess Stream Wednesday 13th December 2023

A change of plan on this one as I set off for the main river for a roving chub session only to find it completely flooded across the fields so I had no choice but to fish the Chess Stream once again as it was just 10 minutes away and fishable but very coloured.

Hi Alan,enjoy your fishing exploits on small streams and river’s targeting Chub. Noticed you fish bread,luncheon meat,occasionally worms. Just wondered if you’ve tried cheese paste,I’ve had most of my winter Chub to cheese paste and at this time of year,wouldn’t go fishing without it. Hi Terry, I've just got myself some cheese paste to try on the next one especially as the water will probably be on the coloured side I've never used it yet so look forward to giving it a go,glad you enjoy the videos mate and good luck with your own angling

Very good effort, your doing the right things, not least of which is actually wetting a line in challenging conditions. Brilliant best way to learn! I believe Mink do tend to have an adverse effect, at best they unsettle any fish nearby and can cause fish to avoid an area. Mink will roam a lot when hunting though but that one may have a den in that Tree above the flood line. The knocks may have been sunken leaves hitting your line in the current, I think any bites would have been proper pull rounds. Perhaps try lifting the rod occasionally and letting the bait settle again, it may find natural depressions /slacks that way.

Hi Ray, I think your spot on they probably weren't bites and either the currant or leaves etc you soon know if it's a Chub.Im just waiting for these river levels to drop now hopefully they will soon if we get a dry spell thank goodness we have the tributaries still tough but at least as you say we can still fish

@@intercity735 I think the pulborugh club has a Facebook page with some very keen river Anglers and they can give very good advice on when our rivers are likely to be fishable

Hi Alan, if you want to target Chub on the main river I have always had more success with cheese paste than luncheon meat on the Adur. Just mix liquidised bread with some grated smelly cheese of your choice roll into a nice ball and keep in a fridge it lasts for months. Also in winter I have had more success trotting red maggots when the water is clear. The best section for this on the main river is Wineham although for you I understand it is a long way on a bike. Hi Steve, thanks for the tips I will try cheese paste on the main river once I'm able to fish it not sure when that will be yet as it's way across the fields. A shame really as I had it all planned out what swims I was going to fish but as you can see just impossible to fish at the moment.Thanks for giving me the heads up on Wineham I must give it a go up there I had a look round up there when I first joined Henfield there is a spot right by the road bridge that could be good on the link leger but again I'll have to wait for the river to drop there's so many places to try I just need a dry spell of weather now until that happens it has to be the tributaries I might Pop up to Wineham next week and have a look round just to see how high the river is up there thanks again for the info Steve and have a great Christmas and a happy New Year to you and your family

Great effort Alan Hopefully the rivers will drop soon. I am certain that before the season ends you will get a +3 from Chess. Red corn has done me well there as well as flake. Keep the videos coming. Have a great Christmas

Hi Alan. I normally get mine from Wishing Wells at Hicksted, otherwise the tackle warehouse at Crawley. Had success with it both on ledger and trotting down. Cheers

Conditions were definitely against you, I don’t think even the experts would have done any better, it was a mink we used to get lots of them on the Severn in the 70’s but the Otters have sorted them out, have seen them at close quarters kill brown rats, moorhens, rabbits and even had a mother with her 3 young un’s perched 30ft up an Ash tree which I was leaning against whilst Roach fishing, and the four of them run down the trunk by the side of me, don’t ever touch one as they could take your finger off as their teeth are incredibly sharp and strong and they show a lot of courage when confronted.

Hi Graham, yeh I thought it was a mink although I wasn't 100% sure those conditions were tough but at least I was able to fish the river adur is still very high and across the fields and until it drops for me it's the tributaries hopefully they will drop to at least a fishable level.
