I don't think the mesh will hurt the plant,the roots were already growing around it, I think you will stress the plant more if you keep messing with you roots. Just my opinion. Hope it works out.

You should put the plastic pot on a larger terracotta as a cover pot. Then you can have the look you want but still be able to check on the roots.💕☺️

I think it’s good that you repotted! Especially since the roots were sticking out the bottom. It’ll probably be happy now that it has a little more room to grow more roots AND it’ll be happy it can climb too!

I think the orchid pot was the right idea! You can never be too cautious when it comes to keeping an eye on an albo! I’m generally not a fan of terra cotta for aroids anyways, but for a little guy like that especially. I think you made the right choice, and the plant looks really good in the pot! It’ll be fine, it has a very mature root system.

One thing I've used for my pots in the bottom is landscaping fabric. I got a large piece off my dad, but I can't imagine it being too expensive, and you only need a small bit, and I reuse mine. No need to stress, we're all learning together. Hope this wasn't unsolicited advice or annoying, just trying to help. I know what works for me doesn't always work for everyone else. I also think individuals plants are like individual people, they have their own personality, so sometimes i have one ZZ plant that cooperates then another that just fights to the bitter end on everything. Happy planting from a plantdemic fan. :)

Have you tried Tony’s soil yet (she’s on Protection Island but does city deliveries). The soil is A-MA-ZING! Love it so much. ❤️

I always leave the plastic mesh in with the roots when I repot; it’s never caused an issues. I would watch the coffee filter closely though. I used them before switching to mesh and found that they disintegrated quickly and moulded sometimes.

Just don’t use mesh🤗 I can’t remember any or a lot of soil coming out of the bottom of my pots. Also I like my roots to get a little root bound before I pot up so me and mesh don’t vibe. Could you do a follow up video on the coffee filter?👀

I use lecaballs, stones or fleece for vegetables to close up the holes in pots. I have had these problems too and had to cut of most of the roots. ^^" But i think coffee filter will so it too!! Dont worry!

I use a cardboard toilet paper roll for the bottom protection. It gives the roots time to establish and the cardboard slowly disappears.

Fern u won’t believe it, I’ve had this monstera for a while and it was my first ever plant and this week i was cleaning the leaves and i noticed 2 new leaves had tiny amounts of variegation threw them and i literally cried and i looked it up and the 2 new stems have the white streaks in them and apparently it only happens like once in 100,000 plants. It doesn’t have a whole lot but i think if i keep growing it it will slowly put out more leaves with more variegation, right?
@wildfern
@wildfern 3 жыл бұрын
Wow that's so luck! It totally could - you never know! It's definitely a good sign that the variegation is in the stem too.

When you receive a plant from the mail, is it okay to gently turn the pot upside down, remove the plant slowly to check the root system? Just to make sure that you know what you are dealing with. Usually a lot of sellers especially from Etsy would claim they are sending you a well established plant but actually not.

So I got two big aquariums and they need these carbon filters that come in a mesh-cloth like fabric, so everytime they get old I use both carbon for my dirt abd the mesh for the bottom of my pots.. Since the mesh is very thin and fine, the roots wont get tangled and u get zero soil spilt

I now use used orange mesh bags... I’m learning trick from the pros! Thanks for the video. Edit... oh my goodness 🤦🏼‍♀️ the mesh stuck! Having a bit of an anxiety attack thinking of the plants I put that in the bottom of 😳

haha this is how all of my repottings went. my albo monstera is absolutely fine now she's so happy but the leaves with large areas of variegation will be more sassy and can turn yellow because of a lack of chlorophyll i think.

I think rather than that mesh use a coffee filter instead. By the time you need to repot it would have disintegrated

For many years I am using toilet paper or any tissues on my pots. Works perfectly and is a bio disposable. Cheers.

Spray down the root ball during your repotting next time. It'll make the whole process much easier

I've seen people using paper towels or any kind of thin fabric instead of the mesh and they didn't have any problems. It might help

I don’t think the mesh with affect the roots at all that plant is incredibly healthy and the roots will just keep pushing and grow through it!

Keep it in Plastic since you are already used to the care and watering it in plastic just leave it so you don’t stress the plant too much from changing so much at one time! It will do fine in plastic like it did before 😁 no worries girl it’s ok ❤️

Isn't the plant roots just going to grow around the moss pole? Then what happens if you want to change the pole to something else?
@wildfern

I guess I will just move it as one unit when it's attached lol. I plan to add the extensions onto this pole and keep it for a long time.
