I appreciate you talking about periods. It’s something most women go through every month and I’m with you, it sucks. I have endo and I’ll have several months where it’s not too bad but then a month that it’s awful.

Fellow endo sufferer here 🙋🏻‍♀️ I had surgery last year to remove it and the dr said it could help my periods up to 5 years… it helped for about 5 months and my periods are back to being hellacious and debilitating. I’ll be 36 next month and seriously contemplate getting a hysterectomy every month I have to deal with 4 days of the worst cramps. Appreciate the fact that Carrie has made her channel a safe space to discuss what needs to be normalized and talked about more. Sending love and healing to everyone dealing with endo and PCOS and the loss of their fur babies- I grieve my dogs that are still here but dread the day they won’t be around anymore. 🐾

Yessss - Thank you for talking about periods! We shouldn't have to suffer in silence, and I always tell my fiance that if men had periods, we'd have period pay, tampons/pads in every bathroom, and it would be a normal part of our daily conversations (he agrees because he's one of the good ones). But it's so good to share, it's what gets rid the weird stigma that doesn't need to exist in the first place💖

Yes ---- I also had periods from Hell and when I was 40 I had a hysterectomy ... it was like a new lease on life. No more being confined to the house at least 3 days of every month (actually more like every 3 weeks), no more iron deficiency, no more cramps ... my issue wasn't PCOS, but fibroids. One weird thing was that I CRAVED to chew ice and after surgery, I gradually lost the urge ... I later found out that craving to chew ice is a symptom of iron deficiency/anemia. Amazing.

I think she’s saying lower weight doesn’t mean an easy/low cramp period, not that weight has no impact on your cycle overall. It sounds like you’re speaking to something different/another aspect of menstrual issues, but I get what you’re saying too. For me, I’m the heaviest I’ve been in a long while & just had the easiest/lowest cramp period I can ever recall.

It’s fantastic that you talk about period reality. Luckily I don’t get cramps but the world (and workplaces) need to normalise and recognise that it can be debilitating for some people and help them. Women should not have to be expected to work through that. Normalise it and the language. At my work it’s totally normalised and it’s so refreshing!

I have my gyno write my birth control pill prescription to take an active pill every day so I never get a period. There is no medical reason to have a period. I've been taking an active pill everyday for 15 years. It was the best decision. I did get random spotting once years ago and my doctor had me take a break for a few months. Those periods were horrible of course but then I went back to the pill and was so much happier again and no spotting since. I've been to a few different doctors over the years and never has any of them hesitated about me intentionally not getting my period.

I came here to say this! After my son was born in 2018 I had horrible strong periods. My obgyn prescribed a low gestagen pill that I take every day. I do get a little bit of bleeding every few months but thats nothing compared to before. I love being period free. My obgyn told me I can take it until after menopause, and it also helps avoiding menopausal symptoms (I am 44 now). So I do not plan to have another period in my life.

I'm 43. I had extreme fatigue and headaches caused by anaemia caused by my heavy periods. I had adenomyosis. I had tried all the treatment options available. I decided to have a hysterectomy (keeping my ovaries) in June. I have not bled for three cycles now, and my energy is back. The pain and swelling in my uterus is no more. I just could not keep struggling on until menopause, my whole life was being affected.

Thank you for talking about periods, Carrie. I had HORRIBLE periods for most of my life. I remember just lying in bed, screaming as a teen and my dad coming in and telling me not to be dramatic. Even when I was in labor, the contractions "just" felt like period cramps. It was so sadly normal pain to me I had a hard time listening to my body when it counted! I grew up really religious and was told most birth control was a sin. I got an IUD last year (not recommending that to anyone, just my experience!!), but for me it has been wonderful and my periods had dramatically reduced in heaviness so much so I am no longer severely anemic. But it was a long road to find out what was right for me. I don't wish that on any menstruating person!! ugh...good luck to any of you in the trenches. xo

Hi Carrie! I 0:04 just wanted to take a minute to tell you how much your videos have meant to me over the years. I found your channel when I was newly in grad school, and you kept me company as I began to learn a new place and make new friends. During the pandemic, you provided a friendly face to watch while keeping safe. When I first moved in with my partner, you just happened to be moving at the same time, and I felt seen by your house-hunting/moving content. When going through hard times & anxiety crept in, I would rewatch your videos to help create a safe space for myself to relax. Now, I find myself at another life transition. I have just finished grad school and moved to a new place where I know nobody. And once again, I get to find comfort in your vlogs-a familiar face to hear from and someone else going through a life transition to empathize with. All this to say, thank you for being such a positive force on the internet and for making my world a less lonely place. You are so wonderful💕

Carrie, I love you and your VLOGS and main channel of course. You’re real, talking about life and the journey we women embark on. We shouldn’t run or hide from discussions about menstration, peri-menopause, menopause, gut issues, aging, and the like. I experienced all kinds of crampy, painful periods most of my life. Diagnosed in the 90’s with endometriosis; at least that somewhat explained what I’d been going through. I pioneered discussing bowel issues (ulcerative colitis) in the late 80’s. No one wanted to hear it. Had a less than pleasant menopause and most of my girlies did NOT want to hear about that either. Thank you for being you. I’m old enough to be your Mom, but I appreciate who you are and how you live your life. Sending love from 🇨🇦

4:03 yes! Normalize it because for far too long so many of us are surprised by what our own body is doing, being told it’s our fault or we’re just too sensitive & making excuses, feeling like our bodies betray us. I’m pretty sure I’m in perimenopause & I cannot believe how much my body has just changed…but not for the better. And unless my doc can prescribe me something there’s no more help so I’m on my own taking a lot of supplements. The more I talk w other women the more I’m learning & the better I feel 🫶🫶🫶

Hey Carrie. I want you to know that YOU are not alone in this horrible period journey. I have horrible ones too. Always have but as per usual my doc put me on birth control to help my period as a teenager just as they do for so so many. And I was on that birth control through college no questions asked. Then I suffered a blood clot turned into pulmonary embolism from being on that birthcontrol for too long as a plus size human. That was going on 3 years ago come december and since being taken off that birthcontrol and being on NOTHING for the first time in what like 20 years my hormones have absolutely WREAKED HAVOC ON ME. My periods are never the same every month, I have horrid acne, facial hair and weight gain. I try talking to my docs about pcos and other things that could be wrong but they insist I am perfectly healthy. I get you. I see you. Don't give up. I won't if you won't!!!!!

It’s rough that PCOS is so varied amongst us all. I was diagnosed at 17 and have dealt with it since (about to turn 45🙊). I had the WORST periods in my early 30s. One lasted for 3 weeks. Finally went on birth control and while I hated finding the right one, once I did it was a game changer. Little cramping and bleeding at most for 1 day. I’m not saying it will work for everyone but it’s definitely something to explore with your doctor. Also, try the hand pies from that book. They are sooooo good.

I had a intrauterine polyp removed and it should really help with my heavy periods and constant spotting. If you haven’t had an ultrasound yet please ask for one to check.

Hi Carrie! Have you been checked for uterine fibroids? I have the most painful/heavy periods and thought it was just something that came with age (I’m 36). However, earlier this year I was having lower abdominal pain and my doctor thought it was due to my appendix. I had a CAT Scan the same day and they found what looked to be fibroids. I then had an ultrasound to confirm, and I have multiple large fibroids in my uterus. I then did an MRI to see where exactly they are and how large they are, and apparently I have a fibroid so large that I’m the equivalent of 5.5 months pregnant. I’m waiting to be scheduled for surgery but my OB confirmed that is most likely why I have had such painful and heavy periods. Just something to think about in case you haven’t inquired. I would’ve never known I had them if I didn’t get sent for what they thought was appendicitis. I originally only got a prescription for 800mg ibuprofen when I mentioned my period.

i feel like fibroids dont get talked about enough. Many drs miss them if they dk what to look for. I hope your procedure goes well! Do you know if you have to get an endoscopy beforehand to biopsy?

I had SUPER long periods and horrible cramps for a few months and then I started acupuncture and it somehow actually helps?!! Just putting it out there - worth a try if it will help you too!

Girl if you haven’t, you gotta get some Portillos! I’m from Chicago (it’s a chain in the Midwest) but my parents retired in Phoenix & there’s a few locations there!

❤ to you and Drew. I have 2 cats currently who I love dearly but have lost quite a few others, one at Christmas this past year (I always struggle with Xmas but this year will be even harder). They are family…just family that unfortunately don’t live as long as we do. ❤

If you truly don't want kids, see a gyno about getting hysterectomy. I was denied one in my 20s, got breast cancer in my 30s and a hysterectomy by 40. But then be prepared for menopausal things.

Girl, I was supposed to get an IUD today because of my periods from hell.. my blood pressure was too high for my OBGYN to do it in his office (I was stressed for days thinking about getting it done) but anyway now I have to get it done in the OR.. so while I wait for that appointment I guess I just have to deal.. so I feel you!!

I lost my 11 year old cat in January and then my 14 year old dog in May. I am still completely devastated. My family now feels so incomplete. The grief is insane.

I'm so sorry 😢 I agree, the grief is overwhelming. Was at the vet yesterday and a family walked out of a room sobbing. I started bawling my eyes out silently because I remember how fkn bad the heartbreak is (it took me seven years to get another dog). I wanted to get up from my seat and hug them but I didn't want to interrupt such a personal and private moment 💔

Periods suck period! I never had regrets getting a hysterectomy at 32. No more problems. I struggled for several years with so much. Best thing that I ever did was take the baby maker out! lol. Hope you feel better soon

Not be completely transparent with a complete stranger but yeah.... I have two solid weeks in my cycle then head aches, restlessness, cramps, mood swings, sweating, and spotting starts and my period is hell 🫠🫠 it's gotten to the point where I schedule life around my period so if that says anything..... No dentist appointments, no tattoos, no visiting people around that time.... I dread anything surgical seeing as I've underwent enough I'd say but it might have to happen..... I don't wanna be miserable anymore....
