Hey thanks for the video! My wife and I were looking for cheap places. We’ve been to NYC several times and we just want a place to sleep not hang out there. I came across this YMCA and looked it up on YT and found y’all’s video. This sealed the deal for us. Thanks for the great video! I’ll update my comment once we fly back home.

Don't do it! I just left the place early. I had their best room. One of the only ones with a bathroom in the room. Bed was HARD AS A ROCK, and you will get no sleep.😢 I left knowing I would not get 140 dollars refunded for checking out early. And was fine with it.

@@jester1cp I’m sorry you had a bad experience. I agree the beds were hard but we were so exhausted from being out all day long we knocked out. I don’t like spending money on hotels that we won’t spend much time in since we’re out exploring.

Good day! Firstly, I'd like to say I find it great to see you're actively helping all, especially the more recent comments. It's very reassuring to know you're both very active on the subject and have first-hand experience staying at the hostel! I've done research, but they were either quite old or particularly insufficient on specific info. There's one thing I'd like to ask, so far: What plug type do they have / need? (e.g. Type-A, Type-B ?) Sorry there could be more questions...I'll try remember to let you know how it goes (in couple months time!) Thank you!

@@HereforaMomentHi. I promised I'd provide my personal review; I've finished my 4-day stay at the hostel recently. Given my few anticipations of the hostel via some online research, it had met my expectations in a few nice ways. The wall sockets (3-pinned) were good and plenty in the room I slept in (like the one in this video). Room was well-insulated for January winter, and bed was comfy (although it liked to creak a lot). Again, helpful video. Thank you for sharing insight and your reply!

Glad we found your channel through your eclipse video :) Happy to be new subs! We brought our kids to NYC a year ago and they would love to go back. Watching this one for tips. I had no ideas you could stay at a YMCA and we were members and used our membership all over the country for years. Man NYC is so expensive!!! $100 a night is great for NYC but man for $100 a night in other locations could get you so much more. Thanks for sharing this option.

Hi there! Thank you for watching! Hope you are well also! The semi private bathroom has a single shower, sink and toilet with a locked door, but it’s not in your room. They are down the hall. So cool! You will have it let us know how your experience is. So we got the semi private bathroom which is great because you can lock the door while you are in there. The shared bathrooms are like dormitories where there are like open showers etc. We really liked that we could lock the door and not worry our stuff and didn’t have to worry about other people in the bathroom with us. It wasn’t much extra either. You are also able to use the YMCA facilities too but we really enjoyed the semi private bathrooms. Thanks so much for watching. If you have any other questions feel free to let us know.

@HereforaMoment

The shared/semi-private washrooms are down the hall from your room. They all are single showers, toilets and sinks so have a lock and you don’t share while you are using it. The private washroom are in your room. We didn’t have any issues with the shared/semi-private. They were more busy in the mornings, as one might expect, but not a long wait.

Thanks so much for reaching out to us. We know that not every YMCA has a place to stay but we have heard that the ones that do are normally in large cities. This is the only one we have stayed in so can’t speak on behalf of others. This just fit our budget because everything in NYC was 300 plus a night. If you travel across America you will find cheaper accommodations but right now travel is on the more expensive side of things. I hope that helped. Thanks for watching

(Someone who visited this hostel during late January, for 4 days. Thought I'd share my personal experience for educative purpose!) I stayed in a room with bunk beds (like the one in this video), a bit constricted and small given the number/size of luggage you'll be carrying, surprisingly well-insulated so it was warm enough during late January winter, enough wall sockets (3-pinned, Type-B. I'd suggest bringing your own multiple-socket extension lead), bed was kind of creaky and noisy, occasional odd noises from the (A/C?) machine in window (also as seen in video), good artificial lighting, tiny bin that at the time filled quickly with litter and occasionally got emptied, clean beds, partially grubby floor surface. Restrooms (Men's communal) at the time got more busy between 7am and 9am. Restrooms were rather compact and small. 3 showers and 3 toilets. Shower doors were partially opaque, suggest swim trunks or hanging your towel above the door. If you are in need of water, there are vending machines with drinks for about $2 or $3, contactless card.

I have never been to a prison but this experience I believe was similar, the room was really a cubicle, there was no space to even stretch out, the room was made up of two bunk beds in a sad gray color, the walls were also peeling, the furniture was in poor condition and the corridors with gray doors without any type of decoration completed the prison-style look with one gray door next to another in a wide corridor without any type of decoration. the bathroom then, without words. small with little space to put things and few showers. The location is the only saving point. But if you want comfort and warmth, this place is far from offering it. Get a Airbnb better .. this shitty place is too expensive for nothing
