I am sorry loves that you all have experienced this. I personally have lived in China almost 4 years previously as a black American family with two young children. Having this conversation about ignorance vs racism is important for children of color. As Americans, our parents help us to understand how and why these things might occur. They give us the framework to continue to love ourselves despite encounters while also how to navigate a world that doesn’t look like you while loving yourself. We gave grace in China because it is not coming from the same place. I would have open conversations with my friends when they would ask questions, touch hair, take pictures. I understood the difference between curiosity and ignorance. However, this situation was different. My mother was a spit fire and might have gone and spoken to the mother and shamed her for her teachings in front of the child. China is big on saving face and while it is not your responsibility to educate all; I do believe that you have to become comfortable with these redirections when your children are involved so that they can understand when it is okay to speak up and how to appropriately do so. Also we never want our children to internally someone else’s feelings. Father I can tell someone has said hurtful things to you. Silence becomes acceptance at times. We can teach redirection in love.

This is the painful reality of being Black almost anywhere in the world. It can be such a beautiful compound/city/community, but the evil words will tend to rear their ugly head. I’m so proud of how he handled that and learned a lot from his response. It’s difficult to balance worries about safety and also counter idiotic statements, actions and behaviors… but he showed me another way. Thank you. Many blessings to you and your family.

It's only a reality if the person allows it. I personally have not experienced racist behavior. But no one should have to experience racist behavior. Unfortunately all racist go through it and it is sad.

Why didn't you say anything when it happened. I understand if you're not confrontational, but at least remove your child from being bullied. The older he gets, the more intense it will be. He needs to know that you will protect him and speak up for him as his mother. Very sad to watch.

I hope the little boy’s parents see this video and realise how disgusting and unacceptable his behavior was toward your children. It seems like he’s acting out of jealousy because your kids are absolutely beautiful. This kind of behaviour likely reflects what he’s exposed to at home, but it should never be acceptable for a child to see someone different from them whether in appearance, ethnicity, or race and respond with hurtful words. sending lots of love and prayers to you and your family.❤❤

Yes you 💯 right. I live in Africa Cameroon and I was bullied in school for being too dark in complexion. I was considered one of the ugliest in class. Over here when a man marries a light skinned woman everyone say he married a white women signifying his wife is extremely beautiful as to them white means beauty. When you have fair skin kids everyone look at your kids with such amusement as they are considered extremely beautiful because they are light skinned. This is why so many are bleaching their skin and even their kids. Trust me the racism in Africa is on another level due to mental slavery.
@tonirowe19759 күн бұрын
@@mariekimbiWow I’m so sorry for your experience but again some of these things are taught by the parents and in the culture for some reason they see being white is beautiful and that’s self hatred at its finest and that’s why so many people feel the need to date lighter skin or white it’s all self hatred and low self esteem, I have not for one day wished I was another color or lighter I see dark skin brown skin light skinned people that just as beautiful sometimes we truly have to look with in , some think curly hair light skin makes you beautiful and that’s where we have to truly look at ourselves and learn to love ourselves no matter what society teaches and we truly have to learn to be different it’s ok I truly hope you have found self love acceptance in yourself

Your children are absolutely gorgeous! I went through the same racial abuse as a child. My mother is of Chinese Jamaican Scottish descent and my father is South - American - Chinese. This journey has made me more resilient today to comprehend the ignorance & bigotry in society and particularly among the chinese community. I was called horrible names... portrayed as an animal ( Monkey)... a Mongolian child with facial defects and much more in which I do not want to list due to the sensitivity of this subject. Those who are well travelled or educated have a better understanding and acceptance of racial/ culture diversity. In Jamaica our motto is " Out of many, one people" . 😊❤

The father needs to man up and assured his boys he has their back by standing up for them, instead of brushing it off like it’s normal and acceptable ‼️ It’s not going be easy for them in school and probably will be physical attacks as well. This will make their childhoods very difficult and abusive if he can’t protect them emotionally and physically he needs to move out of that racist environment into a nontoxic level neighborhood or country💯

Both of you should make a complaint to the chinese authority to have a law to kerb racism. For a stable country government must ensure harmony amongst the citizens. Which mean everyone regardless of race should learn to live and cooperate with one another. China must lead as an example for the rest of the world to follow - that everyone can live harmoniously and cooperate with one another. This is something both of you can do as well with other biracial parents - champion for racial unity and harmony. A lot of prejudice evolved from movies coming from the west portraying stereotype behaviour of non-white race. It is important to break down this stereotype. Understandably education is very important to break down ignorant and prejudice. Never let racism be a limitation but as opportunity to educate, unite and exchange cultural literacy.

I'm sorry but it was upsetting to me that when she heard her son or her husband's son over and over being spoken to in such a nasty way. Why didn't she run or walk to him straight away? If that was my son I would have gone there immediately, and told the boy what he was saying was first of all not true and then I would have explained to my son how there are good kid and mean kids. If he is being mistreated like that again to find myself or his Dad straight away. Not to associate himself with children who have hateful things to say to anyone. Then she waited to tell the Dad after they left. Would she have acted any different if it had been her son? Children need parents and step parents to stick up for them. Not in an aggressive way but in a way to remove them from the abuse. Then speak to them on how it made him feel. Remind them you will be there for him.

Key points I observed in this video #1 beautiful family, #2 younger children with less social and nationalistic programming genuinely love all human beings, #3 The older child has been exposed to social and nationalistic programming long enough to regurgitate hate. Moral of the story racism and discrimination is a learned social behavior it goes far beyond and individual behavior it is a national behavior. The interaction displayed between the two young children on the playground was human interaction in it's purest form, void of societal discrimination, it was a child that genuinely wanted an interaction with another child.

I am Indonesian, and we Indonesians are used to seeing many different skin colors, and children would play together be it black, yellow, or brown. We have East Indonesians who have darker skin similar to Africans, but we do not recognize them as black, because we don't use the term, Instead, we use their province origin. It is a big No to identify one by skin colour. Anyway. China is a homogenous country, they are not used to seeing other races unless those who travel far enough to know that the world is big.

I think the problem comes from not having loving parents (overbearingly strict parents) which made the kids (usually boys) who is about to go through (or is going through) puberty to lash out at others who are different to them (out of fear or out of jealousy)... In this case, I think it's both. The kid saw your kids having loving parents and he's jealous, because he didn't have that at home... Hurt people hurt people. Just keep that in mind.
