A healthy diet is so incredibly important for the birds and us. I can see how my baby misbehaves when I've given too many unhealthy treats the day before. It's not that I only give her perfectly healthy food but the unhealthy stuff in great moderation. Senegals are from Africa but she must have Italian ancestry by the way she goes crazy for pasta. LOL. Your new flock-mates are beautiful and they are so lucky to have adopted you. On a side note---Gray is your color on camera! The sweater that your GCC is slowly unraveling looks great! 🤣

A parrot eating chicken eggs are about the same level of cannibalism as a human eating beef. Yes, parrots and chickens are both birds, but they aren’t that closely related. Humans and cows are both mammals, but they aren’t that closely related.

It's such a great pleasure to meet Nicodemus for the first time. He's a very handsome bird! I have to say, I'm always disappointed when I hear people (especially people who claim to be "bird people") say they think feeding psittacines egg or fowl meat equates to 'cannibalism'. I find it exasperating. I know high-school biology has developed and changed somewhat over the last 40 years (since I studied it), but the fundamentals of "what is a bird" really haven't, other than that we now know with confidence birds are the only remaining extant lineage of dinosaurs. But the first major phylogenetic study of bird-relatedness via genome-mapping was published almost a decade ago now (Nature Journal in collaboration with Yale & Cornell-2015) and has been widely publicised. I think all "bird people" have some personal obligation to become aware of at least the most basic findings; even if it's just to understand a little more about how their birds fit into the 'big picture' and the nature of the environment in which they evolved. The reality is, human beings are more closely related (biologically) to rabbits, sheep and cattle than parrots are to chickens, turkeys or ducks; with the various 'fowl' clades having diverged from other bird lineages over 70 million years ago, before the dinosaurs even went extinct. So if feeding parrots a little egg or white-fowl meat is 'cannibalism', then by the same 'logic', so is eating McDonalds for humans.

I agree - and it seems like it is more about drama than nutrition or what’s best for the bird. Of course, that’s almost all I care about - the best everything and anything I can offer my birds… Here’s to hoping that Nicodemus isn’t old or sick. I certainly take a risk when I don’t know about a bird’s past. On the other hand, when people tell you about a bird’s past (and it’s someone you don’t know) there is no way to know whether the story is actual or fictitious! So… and I love giving birds a home and chance at the best life I can offer. Hopefully that will get better this year!!!

You only have to look at half the 'rescue' videos on youtube...... or those "A farmer found a ...... and decided to...." videos, to know 90% are clickbait rubbish, invented by people with no knowledge of the topic at all..... just looking for drama. Even if Nico is elderly, I know he'll enjoy whatever time he has left with you and his new, diverse flock. Hopefully, when he grows out his wings, he'll be able to use them to keep fit and get those endorphins flowing!
