His hatred of Christmas is not born of malice but of sorrow, imagine spending every Christmas of your childhood alone because your father hates you, imagine losing the only people you were ever close to at Christmas time, imagine losing the love of your life at Christmas time because of your own pettiness and pride. What Scrooge learned was that it didn't have to be like that...he didn't need to be alone, there were still people who cared about him even after everything he'd done.
@RedRaven5910 Жыл бұрын
Is that the true reason he hates Christmas
@snakes3425 Жыл бұрын
@@RedRaven5910 In the movies they focus largely on his failed romance being the catalyst for why he withdrew into wealth. In the book the first stop the Ghost of Christmas Past takes him is to a boarding school, where we learn that his father hated Scrooge because his mother died in childbirth, and blamed him for his mother's death, he'd only relent on allowing Scrooge to come home for the Holidays because his sister convinced him to allow it, and when Fanny died at Christmas time he basically lost the only family member who actually loved him.

My sister passed away this year and knowing that she is gone made me to not want to celebrate Christmas for a while. After reading A Christmas Carol and fantasy books like Lord of the Rings. It made me want to put a Christmas Miracle in fantasy stories that I started writing. I thought of an idea where a group of Elves and Dwarves made shelter in a cave from the cold freezing blizzard night. There they stumble upon Orcs and Goblins who were also trying to shelter from the cold. Instead of just killing each other something else happened. They started sharing wood and as they shared the fire, they started sharing food, and then their stories, and tales of their friends and loved ones. Orcs and Goblins would reveal to the Elves and Dwarves that they have families as they do, and as the night goes on they talk about their struggles, and as their journey takes them through the night. A Christmas miracle does happen. The Elves and Dwarves become lifelong friends with the Orcs and Goblins and their hatred for each other melted away. I also thought of an idea of a cold-hearted Wizard whose kingdom was everlasting winter and cold who was on the path for eternal damnation until he was saved by a child that warmed his icy heart. Then there was a story on a Christmas night a couple's newborn child was abducted by a Demon and was about to be sacrificed until the child was saved by a giant homeless man who was born with hideous deformities and a child-like brain. The man wore a bag over his head to hide his monstrous features and from the public because people only saw him as a monster, but the giant had the heart and purity of an angel where he risked his life to save the child from the monster. It's stories like that that help me think about what Christmas should be, not about presents or commercialism, or religiosity, but goodwill and giving a helping hand toward all people. That is the heart of Christmas, and Dickens encapsulated that in his tale.

Interesting summary, but I was hoping you'd explain the origins of these characters that Charles Dickens took from in real life and in holiday folklore.
@noel7777noel2 жыл бұрын
The story is about there is a cognitive dissonance of our bosses in the meaning of Christmas, well in all of economics for that matter. The origins of Christmas comes from the peasants push back back against the oligarchy. Funny how Santa Clause is the commercial busineses campaign to make money. A cognitive dissonance in "take care of the boss and you have a job". Yet companies make the most money at Christmas time. 🤔. It's almost a opposite effect. Like down is up.
@TylerRakstis2 жыл бұрын
@@noel7777noelWell it didn't help how Charles Dickens get to have his book property copyrighted, since everyone had done pirated versions of his story. And sadly most big wigs or fat cat bosses would never get it through to them since there's still corruption in the workforce. Unfortunately most of us commoners are no better since if we had that moment of getting this amount of power, we would end up becoming as corrupt as the people we despise.
