What makes anyone think that government officials are even trying to protect us? A government is not analogous to a hired security guard. Governments do not come into existence as social service organizations or as private firms seeking to please consumers in a competitive market. Instead, they are born in conquest and nourished by plunder. They are, in short, well-armed gangs intent on organized crime. Yes, rulers have sometimes come to recognize the prudence of protecting the herd they are milking and even of improving its ‘infrastructure’ until the day they decide to slaughter the young bulls, but the idea that government officials seek to promote my interests or yours is little more than propaganda-unless, of course, you happen to belong to the class of privileged tax eaters who give significant support to the government and therefore receive in return a share of the loot. It's about decreasing the severity of an accident when someone cuts u off or slams on the brakes. Speeding not only reduces your time to react but also reduces the control u have over your vehicle and increases the likelihood of a fatal crash. Here North American we stuck at driving, we cant zipper, wait at lights or even check mirrors. But u want people to b able to go 200 kmph.

@@glue_manchu1446 Bullsh-t. 100%. Educate yourself on the history of speed limits especially in the US. What was once a response to the oil crisis, was never changed back in most areas. All while cars have become exponentially more safe since the 70s. Counties have been caught and sued successfully for creating speed zones for the sole purpose of generating revenue for themselves. I have much more respect for the state troopers in my area that actually sit out in the open to prevent issues, rather then hide, ticket, then hide again. That is blatant motive for the budget and not the safety of the people. Nowhere in my original post did I insinuate anyone should be allowed to drive 100mph because they feel like it. But to take the 'speed kills' stance screams ignorance.

@@edwardgreenjr167 " But to take the 'speed kills' stance screams ignorance." i'd hate to be called ignorant for arguing with physics. try to keep your discussion to one topic, swapping from illegal police behavior to safety issues is diversionary. at 0:50 he touches in the topic of the problem of different speeds causing issues, do you agree, or disagree? his proposal of "elitist" licensing permits is advocating the very issue he outlines in the referenced segment. classic Kruger Dunning to over estimate your abilities, very few drivers will admit to being "bad" or "unsafe" please differentiate between driving for pleasure and driving for "business" including those commuting, driving for transportation or commerce reasons. i have vehicles i drive "for pleasure" and when i drive "for business" i work towards an "uneventful" trip. in the latter case, driving is preventing me from doing what i want to be doing. i would not like to be the one arguing speed limits against the professionals that have done the work determining the values. @@glue_manchu1446 Speed reduces distance to react not time. you react in the same time. actually if you are really speeding usually you are way more alert and paying more attention to what you are doing. The control you have on your vehicle doesn't change, you can control the same steering wheel and the same pedals, is the way your vehicle reacts that is different due to inertia. There are no evidence you are more likely to crash, of course in the event of a crash consequences will be more severe.

I've never once been fined. Been pulled over three time. Once for expired reg (my fault, I was young and dumb, just fixed it, and paid the filing fee, which is like $10), once for not stopping before turning (I absolutely did, she just didn't see, and she believed me), and another time for expired tags, but they were valid, just not marked in the system (cop saw the reg tag after I pulled over, and he straight up told me never mind, his bad). Just don't speed, and don't be a fool, and you won't get tickets. Traffic court is the most corrupt shit ever, they will literally tell bold faced lies and find you guilty. The worst for me was when the cop said I did 100mph in a 2g non turbo Eclipse (like 180hp) and stopped again, while doing a 60 foot burnout, all within ⅛th mile. It was patently absurd, but yet they still acted like I 100% did it and acted like they were doing me a favor by giving me spinning tires, when the entire thing was BS.

I've also had that thought about special license plates. Why can't we take an advanced driving course (on a race track) and get a special plate that allows you to go, say, 20mph above the speed limit? I'm way safer on the highway at 85mph in a well maintained car than most people are at 65mph in their clapped out hoopties. Especially on a motorcycle, I can slam on the brakes or swerve out of the way faster than the cops in their Crown Vics can even dream of. I know because I own a Vic too.

Without going into the details, I had a similar experience being railroaded by the court, the LEO was lying and I proved it, the judge sheepishly reduced the charge (he knew the original charge was bogus) but still wouldn't throw out the ticket. Its the old adage, you can't fight city hall! That said, there is a tactic which has worked for me and others when being pulled over for speeding. Carry an expended inhaler or Epi-pen in the car. When pulled over, tell the LEO your having an asthma attack or a reaction to a bee sting and you need to rush home to get a fresh inhaler/Epi-pen. Show him the empty canister and one of two things will happen, he'll send you on your way with a warning or he'll say you don't look like your under duress. Take the ticket and ask him if he's qualified to diagnose a respiratory problem. The one time I had go to court I brought a file proving how dangerous an untreated asthma attack could be but I didn't have to use it, the LEO saw me in the waiting area with the file and slipped out the back, I assume, for fear of being asked what his qualifications are to make a field diagnosis. The judge threw out the ticket because the officer was a no show.

Oh yeah that's a great idea let's just fake serious illnesses and ruin it for everyone that actually has one when cops catch on to your little game. Fun fact, I actually have a strange asthma condition, but my attacks have typically been pretty random and I would only have one every year or 2 or 3 without warning, so thus I never bothered with inhalers because they would either be bad or I wouldn't be able to find it or remember to take one with me all of the time. And you're also pretty dumb if you think someone can't tell you're having an asthma attack unless you're a really good actor, because there's times you can't say 5 words in 30 seconds because you feel like you're going to suffocate if you waste air on a word. How about taking responsibility for your speeding instead of trying to impersonate someone with a serious life threatening illness or condition that they could actually die if the cop doesn't take them seriously if they suspect it's a way to get out of a ticket.

Using Switzerland as an example of ‘good’ speed limit enforcement in this article is very misinformed. You would be bankrupt if you lived here. On the whole tickets for being caught driving more than 20% above the posted limit become means tested and can end up costing up to 10% of your annual gross salary. Google ‘largest speeding fines ever’ and you will see what I mean. Also the traffic cameras are almost all mobile, are moved every week, and the guys who place the cameras hide them behind road signs and barriers or place them at the exit of tunnels or next to the speed limit change signs. Switzerland also has lower limits than all the surrounding EU countries and they are enforced with extreme prejudice. 5% +1 will set off a camera, so that’s 53 in a 50km/h for a ticket.

That's why a drivers license in germany costs upwards of 2500$. You have to take a lot of driving lessons, theroetical and practical. This is to make sure that you can acutally handle driving on the Autobahn and doing so fast. There are several mandatory driving lessons on the Autobahn when your driving teacher tells you to floor the car so you get a feeling whether youre comfortable to drive safely at a high speed.

I get pulled over about 3 times a year on average. Last one I had to pay for was about 5 years ago. When the lights went on, my speedometer indicated 85 in a 45, cop wrote the ticket for 55. Paid that one happily. Probably helped me that I was literally driving the epitome of a grandma car, a 1995 Olds Ciera. Betcha most of you didn't even know one could go that fast (lol). Here's the last 12 months of pull overs. I got nailed by a lowered speed limit section on a 4 lane highway while it was going downhill. I realized I was going about 60 in a 45, hit the brakes, light came on. Pulled into a business parking lot, was respectful, officer noted that my address is a solid 60 miles from where I got pulled over, gave me the benefit of the doubt on just not knowing the area. No ticket. I got pulled over by a cop that just wanted to check my inspection sticker (rusty old Tahoe in Pennsylvania). It's very well maintained just looks like crap, no ticket. I got pulled over for an illegal pass because the guy in front of me just sat there at a green light. Cop only saw me pass, not what the other guy was doing. No ticket after explanation. I got pulled over for wandering over the shoulder white line, was late and I just wasn't paying the most attention. No speeding, not drunk. As a cherry on that sundae, my registration card was 6 months expired, my insurance card was so old it wasn't even for the right company. I had paid the registration, PA kills registration if you don't have insurance, so I got away with that too. No ticket. Printed out new cards when I got home. When I'm on the turnpike, I find myself cruising around 90 (speed limit 70), occasionally flashing up to low triple digits. Haven't gotten nailed for that yet, thanks to the Waze app. All my cars are comfortable at that speed, even the Tahoe, and it's not too hard to get it down under 80 if I think a cop is going to be around the bend or behind that bridge. The car you drive definitely makes a difference. I got nailed constantly in the '07 Impreza I had, even though it was just a base model without a turbo. It got lumped in with the local WRX scene in the eyes of the cops. I drove that Olds way faster all the time with much less hassle. So, wanna go fast? Get a well maintained yet shitty car that keeps up, be aware of conditions and be respectful when you get pulled over. Windows down, interior lights on, hands at 10 and 2, describe exactly where you will be reaching if you are asked for anything additional.

The fact that Americans don’t get that you should stay right except to pass is so stupid to me. I mean it is literally blocking traffic and makes it much more unsafe to drive..

I've had that same idea about special plates allowing you to go over the speed limit. They should really consider that

Being from jersey. And driving on the highway for 100 miles of my day everyday at about 100mph on average. Only in Jersey can we smell a cop from miles away. Our instinct is insane lmao

Never understood the logic that the speed limit is the same for huge semi trucks as it is for normal sedans/ SUVs..

"65, 55, 45, 35..." Texhoma. The speed limit drops from 55 to 35 _after_ a curve. Got snagged by an unmarked SUV waiting around the corner while I was trying to slow down my semi. Got off with a warning thank God.

I've driven down those kinds of roads in Oklahoma, you have to pay super attention to them out there. Also a few towns here and there in Michigan have that crap too.

Story of my life. (- the 200 tickets) Can't tell you how many times I've been railroaded in traffic court. The corrupt judges & prosecuters hate when you're knowledgeable AND attempt to plead your own case. Even when I've had all the evidence on my side I almost always loose. So I simply pay an attorney 3 times as much to go to court for me and 90% of the time they win, or at least get a reduced charge. To me it's worth not having the points on my record.
