Well... more emphasized. Round bass drums have a slightly different sound between the beaters. Ideally, you want a slight difference in pitch. Even with triggers.
@billybamdrumjam66194 жыл бұрын
Mk Engrammatik is that so there’s less of a ‘machine gun effect’? I don’t tend to notice the difference in pitch when I listen to whatever death metal I choose haha. Does every band do it or is it more selective?
@Lupine.4 жыл бұрын
@@billybamdrumjam6619 You're right! Not every band EQs with raw drum tone. If a drummer uses a lot of double-strokes, they would want to have a matched tone to help sound consistent. (Although, the best players train for even strokes). In the modern digital era, it's becoming more of a preference. Hearing someone lay-down heavy gravs is badass!

Tony, I had no idea Vox made drums, and to see this. When Vox sponsored the amps on the Smother's Brothers show with the Who, playing "This is my generation", I don't think Moon was playing Vox drums. I think he had Premier. But the Vox 6 string and the Vox bass are both really great looking guitars, seen on that show (on youtube). Too bad Townsend busted up that beautiful Vox electric. There is one better looking bass IMO, which is the one played by the Searchers on the black and white youtube video, the Burns / Bison bass with the 3 chrome cross bars over the lowest pick up. To my knowledge, that is the only photo of the original Burns / Bison bass on the web that has the cross bars. It was reproduced 30 years later, but limited to 1,000 units. Vox certainly had the best looking stack amps, with the chrome frames, maybe not the most reliable, but still better looking than any other amps to date IMO.

When I got replacement heads for my 65? Trixon Speedfire bass drum in 91, I had to mail old heads to Remo because they said there are many sizes. Not sure if it was variations in the molds? Came with animal skin bass drum heads, replaced with fiberskyn heads. The Speedfire had a partition that gave you two sounds i/i and strength for crazy multi tom setups.

This is the second time you've sold me on a product. I bought the Duallist drum pedal for quick and easy double-bass while still having high hat control. But, the thing I don't like about the Duallist is switching back and forth from single and double kick. I'm sure I could get used to it but, since this drum sounds good, I bought the Vox bass drum off of Reverb and plan on putting a normal two-pedal double kick on it it, right next to the Duallist. Easy singles, easy doubles, easy triplets, easy switching between all of them. 4 beaters, 3 pedals, 1 bass drum. I think I may have teetered well over the precipice of madness, thanks to you.

I've seen that Vox kit so often in Pintertest, and at the Reverb site; but now I finally got to see what it really is and how it sounds "under the hood". This video is outstanding, and you did a terrific job breaking down that kit to the science and sounds of it. Awesome! Would I ever own (or at least play) that kit? I dunno... the shape of that kick drum makes me feel kinda squeamish about this kit. Perhaps I'd camp out in the woods, inside that kick drum as a trailer! LOL On the real, tho... it would probably take me a long time to warm up to that kit, because of that weird kick drum shape. The small side of that kick drum front head would be a cool spot to install a sub-kick low frequency mic... THAT would look really cool! For the time being, Remo will only make coated drum heads for that shape and That particular drum kit. The best advantage I see about that kit is its retro look. That drum wrap has a nice "alligator" texture. Another great advantage: the front head of that Kick drum would be interesting to see some tricked-out psychedelic band logos painted onto it. I almost thought that kit was made out of stainless steel because of that wrap, until you showed the shells. When I first look at that kick drum I think it's Cadillac As Fk, which makes it visually intriguing. That drum kit would perfectly suit bands like Los Straitjackets, and The Fleshtones. I like the sound of those thick shells, especially that kick drum... they remind me of the vintage Ludwig drum kits from the 70s, and those kits back then had (still have) have a precise Punchy sound when used with coated Remo Emperor heads, in my opinion. That kick drum wins Bonus points for its Punch. From a purist perspective, and for consistency, I would use the hardware that comes with this kit; chalk it up to the vintage style of the hardware which compliments this kit. But, as a garage-rock drummer, I would swap that hardware for Heavy-Duty hardware because I tend to be an aggressive player (I'm 55yo, pounding my drums like a 20yo hardcore metal kid, lol). Visually, that Vox drum kit would fit the style of my 3-piece garage-rock band The VaVaVoodoos because the other two band members are into the retro 60s garage-punk style, and they're from the old-school Sgt. Pepper rock frame of mind that "a band should look as good as they sound", therefore they would be stoked if I were to bring this Vox drum kit onstage with them. As always, Thanks for your awesome videos!
@tompastian3447 Жыл бұрын
It looks like one functional aspect of the pear shaped bass drum is the lower side of the drum would allow you to have your snare drum positioned some what over the top of the bass drum, where that may not be possible with a round bass drum, especially if you have a mounted tom in the front of the snare. The drum pedal sounds better to me when you play it on the larger portion of the drum head. Vox made some of the best looking equipment in music, guitars, amps, and I had no idea they made drums. Really like what I hear.

I saw one they had at NAMM in January. At first glance I thought it seemed kinda gimmicky. I had pretty much all of the same questions you answered, but because of the NAMM Police I didn’t really get to play it. There was no throne at the kit, but it did have a pedal so I just got to stand behind it and hit the kick and drums lightly with sticks. I’m sure if I got a full chance to test one at full volume I may change my mind. Great video!

Seems like you could have 2 contrasting kicks like Russ Miller but really just mount 2 pedals on the one drum pretty far into each side. If you timed it right you could probably make them different enough to be semi worthwhile for getting a big and little sound.

It would be cool to have an optional mirror-image bass with the internal mufflers also flip-flopped so that this could be set up in a classic double-bass, two-aerial tom, floor tom configuration. It's merely a matter of visual 'wow factor', but you could get six separate kit looks with a reverse-build kick option: right-squish single; left-squish single; double-right squish; double-left squish; double-internal squish; double-external squish. 'Melt' or 'Warp' if you prefer. : ] Double-bass would be a killer look with this set. The position of the cymbal bracket would likely be an issue, as might the tom arm length. There might be a compatible external hardware option, or a way of using the cymbal mount bracket as a tom mount if the tubes are the same diameter and the mount could safely support the weight and bear the mechanical stress of being played. : ]

i see this kit excelling at a gig(s) where you literally use the whole spectrum of sound offered by the bass drum. something jazzy for a smaller side of the bass drum, and something boomy for the larger end. for my needs and applications though, i think i would use it for novelty and not as a working kit. thanks for the video though! ive seen this kit kicking around for years and ive had sooo many questions haha!

The alder construction leads me to believe that this was made in the same factory the ddrum used for its Reflex drum kits. Having a lot of experience with those drums, alder is a great wood that is plentiful and has a great low-mid fundamental. I wish more companies would get hip to its benefits.
