@@eadweard. Not sure what that means in America but in Canada that means an accidental death. Like you punched someone in a bar fight and they fell backwards, hit their head on the ground and died. Involuntary bc you didn’t mean to kill them. Murdering your wife, wrapping her up in a blanket and dumping her somewhere, lying to the media and her family for 12 yrs and blathering that you hope for her safe return when you know damn well you killed her, does not seem at all involuntary. He very much voluntarily lied his ass off and put her loved ones through hell for over a decade! Seems like at least 2nd murder to me and definitely worth more than a ridiculous 36 mos in jail

Because they only had quite vague circumstantial evidence so they didn't feel confident they could convince a jury beyond a reasonable doubt that he murdered her. If they went for a murder charge and he wasn't convicted, he would have walked away completely free. Accepting a plea deal at least guaranteed he would be sentenced. I agree it seems unjust but, when there's very little evidence, the prosecutors have to weigh up the options if they want a conviction.

Considering the lack of evidence, he should’ve have gotten even 3 months. Too many times the police arrest people because they feel that they had to have done it because there’s nobody else. And too many times we’ve found that the police are dead wrong and the person is innocent. It really does not surprise me that given the option of losing and getting life, or just admitting it and getting 3 years, that he took that deal.

He did not plead guilty to the murder charge and was not convicted for it. The 3 year sentence is for involuntary manslaughter which is the death of someone resulting from an underlying misdemeanor. That's a real shame. The reason the DA agreed to it was that he did not feel he had a strong enough case and the jury might well find there was a reasonable doubt as to his culpability. There was only weak a circumstantial evidence.

And wow, what a monster. I know most of us, especially those that watch a lot of true crime content, have come across far worse cases in terms of evil, absolutely horrific cases of torture and torment, terrifying examples of the most sickening behaviour that is so antithetic to what we feel is human and humane. Some people - it's like they're barely people. But this guy. For some reason I find it grating. Perhaps it's because it's too common in a way. Hearing about what he was like behind the scenes, the jealousy and controlling behaviour, putting pressure on this young woman to do things he knew she wasn't comfortable with, spending six years together and she was only 21 - likely had never known or experienced a caring, loving, and trusting relationship. Only this guy - and you can't help feel like she would have been trying so hard to make it work even though she knew that she wasn't happy. Am I just feeling cynical or are there just too many men like this guy out there in the world? All the videos really, but that one that was more recent showing him yelling at the mother of his child, tells you so much about him. Clearly so self-interested and unable to show empathy. Is he a psychopath? Perhaps he is. I just feel odd that this pathetic excuse for a man can take so much away, be so casual and callous, but so ordinary. Three years in prison? Unbelievable. Sick. Sad.

It's better than places like the U.K. and Australia, whose "life sentences" are like 15-20 years as a rule (and the sentenced often serves even less than that). That's the problem of letting him plead out. They should have rolled the dice. As soon as I heard "misdemeanor" by his lawyer, I knew it was going to be only a very few years. @MarioGoatse
@MarioGoatse 11 күн бұрын
@@terredee Body Language reading is a pseudoscience. Nobody can read body language with reliability. We can read very basic moods of people, and they’re often accurate. However, we can’t actually tell when somebody is lying, guilty, innocent, hiding something, etc, because human behaviour is incredibly complex, and culture, neurodiversity, and mental health can play a massive part in how we act. One person biting their nails might indicate anxiety or fear, but the next person might just bite their nails all the time because it’s a bad habit. There’s no objectivity to it. By the way, Confirmation Bias is often subconscious. You don’t need to actively lie to yourself. Our brain is just wired to notice patterns, but it “overlooks” the times when it didn’t conform to that pattern. You have to actively fight against your brain when it does it, or else you just end up being biased and prejudiced without realising. Just saying, don’t fall into the trap of believing that “you can tell”. If we could tell, policing would be very easy. Criminals would never victimise people. Liars would never get away with lying.

This is by far the best true crime channel! With your sweet and strong voice, straight to the facts, no opinions interrupting the case coverage every 3 seconds. It’s just a brilliant show! I wish Court TV would pick up your series. I’ve seen a few other true crime series featured on there. And while I like Annie Elise just fine, some British rep would be nice too. Esp since you ladies cover a lot of cases no one even heard of instead of the same old cases Annie covers. Thanks for all your hard work! ❤ would it be ok if I recommended your channel on there? Statistics demonstrate that when a woman in a domestic violence situation decides to leave the relationship, she is something like 1,000 times more likely to be killed by her partner; roughly 75% of victims of domestic homicide are killed when they try to leave. My bet is that she called off the engagement, thus retaking control over her own life, and that loss of control is likely what caused John to "snap." And some people can't seem to understand why I refuse to date. As for the accomplice, my bet is on John's mother.

Would you rather a justice system where people can be imprisoned for murder when there's very little actual evidence against them? The DA can only work with the evidence they have and, in this case, it was unlikely they could convince a jury beyond a reasonable doubt that he murdered her. That's why they felt their best option of securing a conviction was to accept a plea to a lesser charge.
