Thanks for this comparison. I like that the Ariosos are ringier, but that's about it. Mediums sound responsive and appropriate for each example. To my ear the Ariosos sound like they are strayed with Teflon. I've used both Ariosos and Mediums before.

Thank you for the comparison Clay. For myself, I prefer the Ariosos. You? It would be nice to hear a comparison of the (Magnacore) Arioso mediums vs. the Magnacore "Strong" sets.

I'm happy to demonstrate most strings, but I tend to avoid those that are well-established or widely used, as the cost is an issue. However, if someone were to donate a new set of something, I'd consider it! ;-)

Thank you for yet another detailed and VERY well produced sound extravaganza, Clay. If I may add my two cents worth from an amateur's point of view, folks with less experience, like me !, might wonder if these strings might fit well with their intermediate level cellos. In my particular case the answer is an unqualified yes. First of all, the classy Magnacore Arioso packaging hints at the level of quality inside but more importantly, once these guys are on a cello, delight awaits. For instance, my 5 month old Larsen A and D Originals were nothing to sneeze at but the new Arioso D, especially, just blew the D Original out of the water. The new A was also a treat albeit to a slightly lesser extent. The 5 month old D'Addario C and G were OK but the Arioso C certainly was an improvement over the rather undefined sounding D'Addario C. Overall, the Magnacore Ariosos REALLY improved the quality of sound in the resonance and sustain domains. To those new to installing their own strings, do not forget to wipe them clean with 99% Isopropyl alcohol BEFORE installing! Yes, even brand new strings fresh out of the packet need the protective oil coating during manufacture wiped off before installing. Happy cello-ing! Thanks again, Clay : )

Not gonna happen, I’m afraid. I have one more demo in the works, then that cello is going all gut, sorry! There is an extensive review on the ICS forums at cellofun.tapatalk.com

What about Pirastro Passione Strings? Would be a great comparison with Larsen.

I have demonstrated and am demonstrating quite a few strings. So many people use Larsen that I have no interest in demonstrating what people already know. It is an expensive undertaking, as you can well imagine, so I have tried to confine myself to the new and unusual, rather than the more well known. These two were actually recorded some time ago, but the files were lost with a hard drive. I managed to recover them and put them out. Of course, if anyone wants to donate new strings for me to demo, I will entertain it ;-)

@@nycellist You're right. Thanks for this videos that you test Celli Strings, there's no videos like that on KZbin. I use Larsen Soloist and Magnacore, but I'm looking for a "velvety sound". Could I get this sound with Passione?
@nycellist5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words, João! I do not know Passione strings, so I can;t really comment. I really like Thomastic Versum Solo as a set. I am preparing all of the Perpetual line ( the mediums are already online) so look for those in the next few weeks. I like them a lot, too!

It is a 40 year old cello, modeled on a Brothers Amati from 1722 with a poplar back and willow ribs

What cello are you playing?
@nycellist2 жыл бұрын
It is a modern cello by the Hungarian-American maker Janos Bodor, modeled on a 1622 Brothers Amati. It is around 40 years old, has a one piece poplar back and willow ribs, is incredibly responsive and has a huge and flexible sound.
