The run I'm showcasing was a streamed Norse 1Faith and Norse 1Culture attempt that I never finished, if you're wondering. I will not be answering questions that are answered by watching the video. Apparently caravan power also applies if you're steering towards or away from an inland node (or collecting in your home node if it's inland) "If it's so simple, why's the video 30 minutes long?" I added at least 10 minutes of examples to help visual learners. Also please uninstall TikTok. Things I missed will be added here: REALLY IMPORTANT "Ship Trade Power Propagation" (the age ability in Age of Reformation) is not trade power per ship. It allows your ships to apply the "transfers from traders downstream" modifier basically. Upstream nodes get X% of the ship trade power you have in a node. Privateering advice: worth it for high value nodes that have a low chance of stopping your pirates like Beijing or Constantinople. Also good for treasure fleet interception, which can be done at any node along the line. The Caribbean is good for this, and so is Sevilla usually. Embargoes: reduces that country's trade power mostly in your domestic nodes (based on provincial trade power). Reduces your trade efficiency though, unless it's against a rival. Sometimes worth it even without a rival, but rarely. You can only have as many level 3 trade centers as you have merchants. The transfer trade power peace deal does what it says. They give you 50% of their trade power in nodes you both have power in. (I think the peace deal option tells you this) Anyway, useful against Lubeck, Hamburg, etc. where annexing them makes everyone angry. Not as much against larger countries, who you could just take land from. Steer trade peace deal makes the country use their merchants to steer their trade towards your home node. Their home node will still collect, however. Results are mixed and generally not worth it over just war reps. TRADE COMPANIES ARE DLC APPARENTLY I'M GONNA LOSE MY MIND PDX Take trade ideas if you don't have Wealth of Nations or Dharma Any other questions? Put them below!

One good tip im missing is that transferred trade power, no matter if from vassal, colonial nations or through the peace treaty, does NOT get halfed when collecting outside of your home node, meaning that for example vassalizing a tiny novgorod, feeding it its cores for infinte negative liberty desire and than taking their trade power gives you near complete control over their node to collect from freely.

Lets say you're playing a roman empire game. Does it make sense to move my trading capital to the english channel and then collect in both venice and genoa if I have 100% trade power there and no one else can compete? Do I lose anything globally by having merchants collecting in non home nodes. Basically I want to collect in all the end nodes and start building backwards. Also, do trade companies affect the province count for actually forming Rome? I thought everything had to be a state...

@@2MinuteHockeyI think it's pretty rewarding, but it depends on timing. Generally i would say early game money is from taxes and late game money is from production and trade is valid mid game, but depending on your nation, that can change a lot. Colonies are very good for trade, and countries like Great Britain easily get half their income from trade

On Mercantilism: Mercantilism was important in the early days of eu4 before trade companies existed. On release, it was considered important to get to 100% mercantilism. Once trade companies showed up, mercantilism became mostly redundant There have also been various patches through the lifespan of the game where some cheesey strat emerged to get to 100% mercantilism and those were always nice patches to run an economy in.

It is still useful to pump it up a bit. It gives loyalty to the burghers and makes it easier to build trade power in nodes you don't fully control. Also, crippling competing economies is a lot easier.

You can easily get mercantalism from granting monopolies to your estates. Each time you renew one (every 10 years), you get an extra point of mercantalism, and if you choose a good that you don't have much of, and wouldn't make much money off of anyway, it's basically free.

Also want to add in my two cents on the topic of trade node management, that being if your node bleeds trade into another node, you can try and turn your node into a "pseudo-endnode" by conquering the node that your node flows into. There are a bunch of videos that will explain it better than I can, but basically if you control all of the nodes that your node flows into, no more trade will flow out of your node, effectively making it the same as end node.

A minor thing that mostly comes into play pretty late game, but getting world ports (coastal level 3 trade centers) can help with achieving and maintaining high navy tradition. Each one reduces yearly navy tradition decay by -0.2%, so you can completely cancel decay with 50 of them, or 40 of them with 100% innovativeness (not likely to happen except in WCs lol). If you're gaining a decent amount of yearly navy tradition from ships and other sources like the Murud-Janjira Fort monument, you can get a net positive navy tradition every year. This isn't that useful for most players since you'll need to conquer a ton of the world for this to be relevant, but it is funny late game if you really want to generate the highest possible numbers by cranking up trade steering. Edit: Forgot to say, really good guide overall!

One thing you can do if you have a sub-par starting trade node is 'creating' an end note. Budgetmonk made a video on it but IIRC you should conquer your entire home trade node and the trade nodes where your hom trade node steers towards. It tricks the AI to not steer trade from your home trade node, allowing you to fully collect. (Budgetmonk explains it better though)

you will dont worry. try playing short campaigns with venice or genoa. someone that is in control of end trade node. those nodes that only have arrows coming into them, and no arrows out of them. that helped me understanding trade better. you just use traders and trading ships to push trade from surrounding trade nodes to your own trade node. and more control you have in your own trade node, more percentage of income from it you get.

Finally a great video on trade, that actually helps noobs not debt spiral. The only significant economic building thing missed in the video is the fact that collecting outside of homenode penalty ONLY applies to YOUR trade power, so transferring trade from vassals and peacedeals can be amazing to start your economic scale. For example as France you can transfer trade from England and collect a majority of the Channel, or as Brandenburg when kicking nations like bremen from lubecks trade league, you can collect a significant amount of lubeck.

14:20 If you have a decent sized empire, a simple way to get navy tradition is to get level 3 coastal centers of trade. Each one decreases the navy tradition decay by 0.2%. The base decay is 5%, so if you get 25 of these, you can completely get rid of the decay and eventually you will get to 100 navy tradition and stay there permanently.

I used to state everything in my own subcontinent and then outside of it add the trade centers to trade companies and leave everything else as territories ... Nowadays I do it differently since I found out that the goods produced modifier also works on states in your trade companies so what I usually do now is to add the trade centers to trade companies and state it if there are no trade modifiers (also delete all market buildings in those states to maximize it) ... Any thoughts on that ? Since I know many people like to do it differently As a side note, adding them to trade company becomes free in regard to gov capacity once you have town halls built there, making gov capacity much less of a problem ever since they no longer take a slot ... Also an important thing a lot of people forget in regard to gov capacity is that state houses give -20% state wide gov cost, which gets doubled to -40% statewide gov cost on paper, glass and gems ... Combined with the -50% from town halls, you can have -90% gov capacity in your high dev states if at least one province there produces one of those trade goods, which is surprisingly often the case Edit: Removed the add whole state part

The Goods produced modifier from trade companies giving to non trade company provinces is so overlooked imo. Recent Run as GB Conquered India with EIC (not worth it, didn't realise only they would get the claims and my national goods produced was a lot stronger than theirs even with bonus) and just took all the trade centres using espo ideas to claim shit, even sub-optimally where I have weird isolated states in trade nodes you still get another like ~100% goods produced, it's insane - high trade value regions you can just steal trade centres thus stealing most of the trade whilst also boosting what is actually produced by upwards of 80% It's all wins apart from the bordergore produced. Also: I can't recall if Trade companies just stop the autonomy Appling to trade power like how they stop the penalties from unaccepted cultures, but if they don't with autonomy modifiers you could get some truly silly trade power modifiers. Very good video, really runs through a lot of the stuff in trade whilst being a good length.

Navy tradition is actually not that hard to get high. At level 3 the monuments in Chaul and Micronesia each give +1 yearly and you can reduce decay to only 2 through 100% innovativeness and 10 level 3 trade centers. Atistocratic also reduces decay by 1. This stabilizes army tradition to 100 even without national ideas involving navy tradition or taking naval

You mentioned that you don’t use light ships because they aren’t worth it. They can be but only if you do it right. There is a SHARP decline in the benefit/cost ratio when you have multiple ships in the same node. The best way is to have 1 ship in each node.

I knew like 95% of what you did say but I still don't have idea where to collect and where to transfer trade when I have not establish my "trade node steering snake" other than trail and error. Also I still don't know what EXACTLY trade steering PEACE DEAL does. When I peace out random minors I can take ducat, war reparation and (transfer trade or steer trade), but I cannot take both and I am not sure when I should take what.

@@QuarbitGaming Yeah, I know about you said in time stamps. Late in the game I can somewhat predict. But my min-maxing soul hurts when I am not absolutely sure is my merchant placement is optimal, especially in the early game when 0.1 ducat monthly makes a difference. The same with protecting trade, I know that EU gives some estimates but they are not really trustworthy and I never sure if I should split my lightships or protect only the most important node for me. It just a lot trial and error when you try to squeeze an additional ducat or two early game. I usually peace out minors for war reps, cash and trade steering (it sums up to 95% war score if I recall correctly) but I don't know when taking trade transfer would be more beneficial. And I know in which nodes country I peace out will steer trade (especially if they are downstream of my home node will still transfer from some furthers nodes upstream to me). And also if they are steering with their trade power only or with my also when I do not have a trader in that node. Because if they also can steer with my trade power then their like temporary additional merchants, but it they steer only with their power then this is kinda meh. The same applies to which countries I should choose to diplomatically transfer or steer trade to me. I usually just go for the steering because it always gives all the merchants, while trade power a percentage between 1% and 50%
@jacobfreeland6881
@jacobfreeland6881 Жыл бұрын
Not entirely sure myself, but I *think* trade steering forces the AI to use a percentage of its merchants to steer trade toward your home mode. For most countries, this works out to 0 merchants steering trade in your direction, since they don’t have enough to start with.

they're so abstract, it doesn't really make any sense. no province would produce only 1 thing, and prices should have a rudimentary supply and demand model. but computing all of that is too expensive.

@@QuarbitGaming but doesn't it better in the begging? If I understand steering well, that building gives +2,5% extra value at transfer. So you can use +10% value buldigng in the first 2-3 node, and you will will multiply a higher base. Your vid motivated me to do some calculations :p

You can see 4 countries are already steering trade in those directions for me. The AI is stupid, and doesn't realize that they gain nothing from doing this, but they're doing it anyway which is nice. If I placed a 5th merchant in those places, the value increase would be about 1.2% since, as mentioned, additional merchants provide diminishing returns. It might(?) make more money, but as per usual the best way to find out is just to check.

@@QuarbitGaming so letting you know that another person wishes you would not talk so fast it a bad thing? Maybe you could try talking slower.
