you payed surprisingly little attention to all the pokemon Z theories... that was a really big thing back then. people were convinced it would happen because zygarde had two signature moves, 1000 arrows and 1000 waves, that weren't accessible without cheating, so people assumed those were going to be used for a pokemon XZ and YZ. then, at one point, the director announced there wouldn't be a pokemon Z because he didn't want to be predictable. you know, even now, thinking about it just reminds me of all the missed potential there was with gen 6. it honestly feels like they were setting up for a third version, but decided not to, for whatever reason. there was so much unused stuff and loose ends in x and y.

For those wondering: the reason for the accuracy of those Sun and Moon starter leaks/fanart was that the JAPANESE NAMES of the starters had leaked (well, rather, trademark names were filed by Nintendo I think). This gave artists an idea of what each starter was going to be: a grass owl, a fire cat and a water sea lion.

Actually I remember following all the leaks during Sun and Moon, the reason that the art at 18:49 at least resembles the starters in concept is because prior to their official reveal the Japanese names for the starters had been officially trademarked alongside Sun and Moon. Basically with just the names to go off of the community figured out that the grass starter was an owl, the water starter a sea lion, and the fire starter was a cat.

The SW Demo includes an evo for Farfetch'd that is a masked swan or goose. That data wasn't leaked until like, last year I think, and the evo wasn't even accessible in the play area of the demo. With that, as the relationship grew stronger, there would be gifts exchanged, and so on and so forth.
