A Complete Overview of The Image Signal Flow In Davinci Resolve

Knowing how the signal flows in your pipeline is super important in any workflow. It may not be the most "clickable" subject, but if you really know how the data moves through resolve, that will make troubleshooting/maintaining maximum image quality so much easier.

Probably should have kept that tl;dr breadcrumb up constantly, (compound clips > edit sizing??), and yeah the lack of mouse curse makes some context hard, see this happen alot really needs to be some mouse tracking standard that can sync like separate audio. 4:17 & 8:10 & 8:56 cache settings seems applicable to most , i'm not a colorist don't even have a screen good enough to try so can't even tell the difference between some examples. With lowend hardware bad cache or not knowing why a bottleneck is happening is like an existential threat, not fun. If resolve, and other NLE's, don't make stuff like this front and center , how would one even synthesize this knowledge without a huge background in this? Maybe they should provide some sort of page dedicated to a clear diagnostic|troubleshooting workflow basically adopting testing practices such as linting|continuous-integration from the soft-dev industry to catch common mistakes and high level problems. I've been thinking about this ALOT due to the gotchas in fusion that hurts the learning curve. 1. An individual light-sensitive element in a digital image sensor - wiktionary 2. mean stacked in the sense of something like photoshop layers changes on lower layers don't effect settings on higher layers

Yeah its Source > Debayer > Clip attributes > Optimized media > Edit sizing > Fusion > Edit Effects > Compound clip > Edit sizing > Fusion > Edit Effects - repeat until insane. Resolve actually does do a pretty good job of giving the user an idea of the signal flow through their page navigation. It pretty much flows left to right. Also the manual has this spelled out in basically as much detail as I do. It would be super nice if there was some "Clip master node view" or something so we could see/change the signal flow at will, but that seems like a LOT of work for them that's not super needed. Also I just need to reiterate how much I appreciate the time you took to make this comment, I'm sure a lot of people will find it invaluable! -Theo

could you make some videos that go over how to fixing shot using fusion when stabilizer fails to give good results...how to fix a tilting or panning shot and applying only an x or y correction?

All great, but you missed something very important. 1. What color science setting are you using? 2. On the Media pool page you can add technical LUTs, e.g. lets say your Fusion guy/gal is working in Linear, you need to know how that works. Other then that very cool video.

Hello Very nice video Much appreciate On non-RAW file the FUSION directional blur happens before the EDIT angle, no? Also if you activate the superscale in the clip attribut ➧ you see it in the FUSION mediaIn without any EDIT sizing. Render cache Fusion output seems to render FUSION and EDIT Transform but no EDIT ResolveFX If you Check Render cache Fusion output AND render cache COLOR output, Resolve create 2 render Cache file for one clip. There is one red/blue line for all the five different render-cache For me it is : SOURCE ➧ DEBAYER ➧ ATTRIBUTS ➧ OPTIMIZED MEDIA ➧ MEDIA VIEWER ➧ FUSION ➧ EDIT SIZING ➧ FUSION CACHE ➧ EDIT EFFECT ➧ OFX EDIT CACHE ➧ COLOR ➧ NODE CACHE ➧ SEQUENCE CACHE (COMPOSITES&TRANSITION) ➧ OUTPUT = VIEWERS/SCOPES/MONITORING/DELIVER Thanks 👍 P.S. Here's a thing. When I work with bpmcc4k footage in Davinci YRGB Color Managed color science thumbnails in the media pool look awful and super contrasty. But, once imported into project, they look fine. But then, if I use Media Management to copy, move, or transcode the footage, it becomes awful again... I don't know if that's a bug, or I don't understand something. Another thing: if I use Highlight Recovery in the Camera Raw tab and turn on Render Cache, Highlight Recovery stops working.
