Walker chasing Konrad is actually interesting concept, cause it's the same person, you. Squad represents your feelings. Note one of them is always against you, one is always with you. Game starts with phrase "Gentleman, Welcome to Dubai" and in the end when you've killed everyone as Konrad, he says "Gentleman, welcome to Dubai".

Depending on how you interpret the game they actually didn't, Walker just imagined their sacrifices because they all died in the helicopter crash. So i think their deaths are just walkers conscience punishing him. One of my takes on the whole thing is that the whole game is Walker going thru purgatory, and he can't get out of purgatory unless he accepts what he's done and lets Conrad kill him or commits suicide, and you as the player are basically torturing walker by even playing the game, remember how Conrad says at the end "after all you've done you can still go home, lucky you" i think he was talking about the player, because if you choose to live at the end you're basically forcing walker to go thru his own personal hell all over again. And you as the player get to just discard the experience and forget about it.

The reason that is universally a terrible explanation to any story is because it instantly removes any of the seriousness regarding anything that happened, everything you did, you didn't do, and everyone that got hurt, didn't get hurt, so you really don't need to think past that, end of story. If he lived it, did those thing, went mad and became delusional, it then becomes a deep story about the duality of man and all that shit, the dream sequence garbo instantly deletes that lol.

@@ThatOneGuyWhoLostHisHandle yeah but taking the story as it happened goes against the games own storytelling hints that it gives you, and i don't agree that it takes the impact away because walker still did most of those things, he still killed the civilians, destroyed their water and a bunch of other fun war crimes up until the helicopter crash. So it's not really a dream it's purgatory it's walker reliving his actions until the final decision at the end where you decide if he gets to move on or remain there. So even if he died at the start of the game it doesn't change the impact of what happened, he still did everything pictured in the game except at the end he gets to confront his own conscience in the form of Conrad.

I mean forces guy, your deployed into Dubai after the largest sandstorm in human history hits and the evacuation effort led by the 33rd, a US Army division, is declared a total failure. When you get into the city you find out that the 33rd turned against itself when the city was overwhelmed with desert because the desert always wins... A faction of the 33rd had split and was trying to forcefully occupy the city, whereas a good number of 33rd personnel remained loyal to the US and were still actively trying to evacuate the city. Unfortunately, thanks to communication errors and misunderstandings, you end up fighting and killing most of the remaining loyalists and a whole bunch of civilians and going a little mad... Unwilling to accept such an atrocity the main character is then forced to commit numerous other atrocities to catch the people he has labeled as being responsible, even though it was him the whole time, all of this while progressing through various stages of insanity because of such insurmountable emotional weight being placed on one man.

The devs wanted to make a satire of the military games of the that and of American imperialism based on the book heart of darkness but the publisher gave them 2 conditions for it, it needed to have Multiplayer and it needed to be part of an exiting franchise (that would literally affect nothing but the name) That's why this game is named Spec Ops, a franchise of R6 like games that started in the 90s

So I'm gonna be that guy; There's a theory put out by a 2kCzech staff member who worked on the game, that walker dies in the initial helicopter crash and everything from there on out, is him in purgatory. Because in the initial crash, the screen fades to white, in the second crash, the screen "fades to black" classically symbolising "the end".

Yeah I dislike that Idea, it's far "deeper" and more of a "life lesson" if he actually committed the atrocities, went mad, started having delusions, and now has to live with it knowing he could have simply walked away and more realistically just called for back-up due to the immense fuck-shittery taking place inside the city which three dudes obviously aren't cut out to handle. which is what anyone with a brain would have done. I can't stand how lame the whole "iT wAs AlL jUsT a DrEaM" explenation is for almost any story, all it does is take away from the seriousness of what took place, because now your saying it never happened to begin with and everyone's ok, so we really don't need to think past that 🤷‍♂.

@@ThatOneGuyWhoLostHisHandleyou are misunderstanding the point. It's not just a dream. Everything happened up until the helicopter crash during the intro. From that point it's Walker reliving the events as he remembers them, while dying. There is a lot of evidence scattered throughout the game that support this theory. Mainly the times when the player can see Konrad's face on multiple billboards, some of them even disappear from other angles, which suggest that it's all inside Walker's head. There is also a clue that I have not seen mentioned anywhere in the design of the models of the helicopters in the intro and in chapter 13. The models of the intro choppers are much more grounded in reality, they look as military aircraft should plus a bit of wear compared to the much more Mad Max style aestethic they have in chapter 13, like how someone's memory of a traumatizing event tend to be exagerated with fantastical elements. There are more, but let's address the elephant in the room instead, which are the different fades. Fades to white signify moment's which are hallucinations of Walker, fades to black are the moments as they happened in reality. To reiterate Ryan's comment after the intro there is a fade to white which also suggests the game is Walker reliving his memory as he is dying or he is in purgatory and forced to relive these memories. There are different theories for the remaining chapters after the crash, because they can't be memories since Walker dies in the crash. So what are they? According to some it's actual hell and Konrad is the "devil", who makes Walker reflect on the horrible acts he perpetrated. Nothing simbolizes this more than the literal mirror in the ending. My theory is a bit less under the nose. I think as Walker's dying guilt ridden brain is trying to make sense of the situation it veers into speculation and what if scenarios, which is evident by the increasingly erratic events towards the very end of the game (namely the soldiers surrounding them in one moment and surrendering to him in the next) and it all culminates in the revelation "what if Konrad was dead all along?" in that moment he either comes to terms with his actions and accepts the blame or keeps shifting it to a dead man depending on the player.

I mean, I love the videos they're usually funny (including this one... kind of...) but any game will suck when you don't take it seriously, this game doesn't have good gameplay I think most know that, it shines in storytelling. It just depends on preference in the end but it's definitely an underrated game for many seeing as how the Williaso KZbin channel isn't the deciding factor in that....... Also at 10:55 how do you make a meta joke about going through the same thing twice without going through the same thing twice? This video seemed more unusually biased then others, that could definitely just be my interpretation, but you never really gave the game credit for anything and If it was actually that bad I don't feel like you'd have been able to make content out of it.... Also you relate this game to cod a lot but all cod ever does is make you commit war crimes, it rarely makes you reflect on those things let alone show how evil the MC often is in the name of "good" or whatever.
