I'm doing my first play through of da:o and have struggled a lot, particularly with my character builds. Your video guides have been extremely helpful and have made the game much easier for me to understand!

Dragon age origins ended up becoming one of my favourite games of all time alongside other games I love, such as Mass Effect 2, GTA 5, Fallout new vegas, and borderlands 2. I also loved inquisition a lot, but origins is still my favourite of the franchise. Though I wasn't nearly as good my first time playing, the big mistake I made was assuming it was a typical hack and slash type game, so I didn't really take proper care of my upgrade choices and it was a miracle I defeated both Loghain and the arch demon with how poor my builds for each characters were but after learning a lot more about the game, it ended up becoming much easier for me and combat didn't feel like something I'd be nervous about. But yeah, I ended up loving origins with its storyline, romances (my male character for morigan, and my females for Leliana) and overall the games amazing lore.

daaaaamn you can let the soldiers in to deal with that big wraith guy in redcliffe castle, i always kill him alone with my party and then open the gate, i feel so dumb rn

It's not very well signaled to be fair, especially if you get caught up in the fight right as you come into the courtyard there aren't any monsters positioned next to the gate, which would help you look in that direction and see the knights

Your character build have helped me a lot with my Arcane warrior and the companions. In terms of combat I have no problems, only slightly annoyed when my character gets picked up by the ogres or during the Flemeth boss fight lmao.

Yeah, those unavoidable attacks are annoying. Best thing is to cast Force Field on the character who gets grabbed so that they're immune!

I'm on my first playthrough of DAO and my biggest struggle is inventory! So many shinies and so little space! I just learned about backpacks, 5 hours into the game! Now I need to seek them out. 😂

@@CharlesBurleigh I recommend the Expanded Inventory mod! It's quite annoying to have to buy all the backpacks, so I think it's way better to just have the mod that expands the inventory to the max amount of 125 that you could get to by buying backpacks.

About arkane warriors 1. It is not the spell power but magic that counts for weapon damage. This is important, as no way to increase spell power will work to increase damage. Only the characteristic of the magic. 2. Attack with combat magic mode enabled gets a bonus equal to 0.2 x spell power. Which means that advising a arkane warrior to pump dexterity is harmful advice. It also makes sense to turn on all spell power boosting abilities before turning on combat magic. 3. it is best to just forget about the defense parameter for a arkane warrior. A arkane warrior ignores damage either due to the huge armor or due to the chance to dodge attacks (which can be raised 85% percent).

As I was making this video, I used my own experience as well as researching the Dragon Age wiki for the information I present. You can see that on the wiki Combat Mechanics page (dragonage.fandom.com/wiki/Combat_mechanics_(Origins)) it says that if an arcane warrior wants to dual-wield it's useful to use dexterity (and dexterity also counts for Attack and Defense scores which to me are quite important). Combat Magic does add an attack bonus, but due to mages having the lowest base attack score, it's still good to get any extra bonuses to Attack you can get. Personally, I find Dexterity to be a useful stat on pretty much everyone other than two-handed warriors (who rely more on health than defense), since extra defense is never a bad thing. I recommend spellpower bonuses because they will generally increase the effectiveness of all mage spells (even the sustained ones), and also you are way more likely to find good spellpower bonuses on gear, whereas Magic bonuses are more rare. Of course, all of this is my personal opinion, so it's absolutely fine if you like to build your Arcane Warrior differently!

@@manlygrain9074 Thank you! Nowadays I mostly play on Hard since I got very used to the game. But when I record the footage for videos I go on Easy or Normal most of the time unless I want to show harder gameplay!

@@ericwisniewski2636 depends on what I'm in the mood for. Mostly I play on Normal or Hard these days, and for my extremely difficult/weird challenge runs I tend to play on Easy because the added difficulty of the challenge is quite extreme. Keep in mind also that I have various motor skill and concentration issues, so I'm not the most "pro gamer", lol.

I'm getting my ass kicked on the first boss. Was using the Excalibur mod for a bit but one hitting enemies will get boring eventually. I'm just on normal.

I highly recommend playing on Easy difficulty at first to get used to the combat. The ogre fight is very challenging if that's the one you're talking about, but... you can deal with it quite easily if you just keep running away from it with one of your characters, while the other ones attack it. I recommend using Alistair to run around the tower since the Ogre can't catch up to you if you do that, while the other characters should attack it ideally with ranged or magic attacks. Of course, if you have spells like Force Field you can save the character who was grabbed by the Ogre by making them immune to damage for a duration (even if they are also immobilized). But still, my first advice is always to turn the difficulty all the way down to Easy first. The game will still be very difficult in some areas because that's how it was designed, to have these difficulty spikes to test your skill. Not necessarily great for players trying to learn the game to be hit by these difficulty spikes so early in the game, so that's why playing on Easy is very important.

Hey there, You recommended a respec mod in some of your companion guides, would you happen to have a link to the one you use? I found a couple but wasn’t sure which one works

@@Nyxowl I've tried multiple ones in the past, but the one I like best is Respecification DAO (www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/5918) because it adds respecialization as "abilities" you can use on characters, and if you want you can also change a character's class which can be fun!
