I don't really know what I made here. Hope u like it :)
But I do know I made this for Buffer Film Fest 2023 and it's always a ton of fun to be a part of that. Thanks Buffer!
Additional Animation:
Matthew Lei ‪@lei_doodles‬
Understimulated into boredom or overstimulated to a point where you can't focus- ADHD makes conversations tricky. I tried to put my own thoughts under the microscope to help others understand why I can never finish a story and how I can't remember things we talked about 5 minutes ago.
This was made for Buffer Film Festival 2023. Thank you to the wonderful people at Buffer for everything :)

proper social educate is to pause in between thoughts in order to give the other people in the conversation a chance to speak. Like, obviously, that's the best way to have a conversation. The alternative is someone sitting and listening to a monologue.

I frequently experience the “no, I swear that your work story reminding me of an iguana fact makes perfect sense” thing. There was a whole mental odyssey of connections I’ve gone through that the other person just wasn’t aware of, so it seems completely out of nowhere.

that is a good metaphor for what having ADHD is like: a mental odyssey. Dividing attention, focus, awareness, thoughts, emotions, it's just a big interior expedition to find everything your brain needs even for one conversation

This is probably the best representation of adhd in media I have seen. It avoids the trope of audio compiling a bunch of random whining noises, and actually, quite originally explains the process of your adhd brain trying to fix itself from beings sidetracked whiles getting sidetracked in a weird meta way. It shows that you’re aware but it’s hard to fix because it’s your brain itself that is flawed. And fills in the much lacking void in most videos on the topic.

Just saying something like “pretty good” doesn’t make any conversation, so i feel like i should say something more than that, but also not too much so it’s not annoying? AuDHD POV: The other person is a terrible storyteller, just venting or really likes to hear himself talk, while you remember the ending from last time, agonize over the correct amount of emotions to show or have already concluded that neither of you is going to take anything even remotely close to a meaningful thought away from this meeting anyway... It's not usually that bad, but I recall suffering all of those in any combination. So yeah, this is pretty accurate.

I don't think I have ADHD, but I do struggle to hold any form of conversation unless its about a very pointed topic I happen to know alot about. I basically can't do smalltalk of any kind, and its tough for me to pay attention to or care about anything other than my own interests. As a result I sort of do this to, but not really because its some kind of attention span issue- I'm just so unbelievably apathetic to nearly everything that I can't be bothered to lend mental energy to anything other than my own thoughts. Its weird, and I hate it, but emotions are not a choice and I don't really get to choose whether or not I care about any given thing. Either I just so happen to be interested in a topic or I'm not and there isn't really an in-between

It's so funny cause I've seen people with ADHD do the opposite of this to.o. One example off the top of my head is when a neurotypical asked them how their day had been going and they interpreted that to mean that the other genuinely cared about how they were feeling, so they went into a long rant about how they were really sad recently for several reasons and then the other person clarified that they just wanted a simple yes or no.

I think I fall to the other extreme, where if I'm listening to someone, I'm hanging on their EVERY. WORD. And I physically can't do anything that requires even a fraction of focus, otherwise I fail at both understanding what is said and whatever task I'm doing. It happens a lot if I'm talking to a friend on the phone and playing a game at the same time.

Funny how when I was a little kid I used to give my thoughts tiny characters and one of them was the leader. Kind of eerie how similar it was to this video

The worst part is sometimes I go to work, hyper focused on what I'm gonna do, but then I take a break or someone asks me about something, I explain and then I'm distracted for the next 6 hours until I go into panic mode and start doing everything I could've gotten done in an hour, 6 hours ago.

As an autistic person, I can relate to this (this is why it’s sometimes stressful for me to socialise and/or I can’t always concentrate on important stuff). Sometimes I just have too many thoughts in my head and things get too overwhelming to the point where it feels like my head could explode, or it’s sometimes the other way round and I have ideas about what I want to say but either I struggle to get them across properly or I’m scared I’ll dominate a conversation with stuff only I’m interested in without considering others.

As a person with ADHD, this is too relatable. I can easily see myself being both sides. I’m either yapping the ear off of someone I’m with or I’m sitting there suffering as I listen to the boring details of someone else’s day or info dump

It's either like this, or the complete opposite where you feel like you're dominating the conversation and the other person says nothing.

it’s accurate how a adhd person can think and talk i should know im one i tend to space off than interrupt the person because i aint got a clue what their talking nor did i want to be rude but i didnt care sometimes im up front and say “not in the mood” or “Dont care”

if i have ADHD, it's currently undiagnosed, but let me tell you, I feel so painfully called out right now, especially with the overanalyzing how something crashes to the floor but hey, analyzing these microscopic details against your will is what turns you into a better writer. Now if only I could stay focused for long enough to actually release a completed product

I have ADHD, and have been on meds since I was like 9..however I recently started recovery for an Eating Disorder, and thus had to stop taking my medication cause all ADHD stimulants have the side affect of surpressing my appitate, so THAT feels weird. BUT ALSO since my brain is malnurished, THE THOUGHTS HAVE DIED. I used to have three trains of thoughts going on at any given time, each at a different level of attention, that I could jump between. NOW I HAVE JUST MY INNER MONOLOUGE. AND ITS WEIRD. I hate it so much, so heres your motivation to EAT FOOD if ya need it.

As a man with ADHD, I can confirm this is my brain *if you think I'm joking I'm not, my brain just goes off the conversation and turns into daydreaming mode for whatever reason* I dunno why but I also imagine myself with multiple versions of me, each with their own costumes/looks and roles/jobs in the brain *it's not split personality disorder tho, I don't have multiple personalities I just imagine myself with multiple people working together* Here are some examples: >The expresso depressio: probably a sad version, reminds me of the sad things in my life >The intelligent: smart Boi, glasses, in charge of everything related to thinking > Randomizing chaos: Black mask with a smile, this boy is basically mischievous and does everything from betraying and backstabbing others, to just making problems >The king: Moreover the one with the crown, basically the 2nd highest role in the place besides the original *I'm listing only some but I could make a list of these, infact I thought about making it an element of a character I made and have been thinking on for the past couple of years* Edit: looking back on this it makes me sound insane- but it still holds up

Wow an ADHD video that I actually can’t relate much to! I don’t have ADHD but most “adhd” videos are stuff that I can relate to completely, and while some things here I do, like fidgeting, all of it is not relatable to me at all! That’s great!
