A Conversation with Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong

The CSIS Southeast Asia Program is honored to host the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong, on October 13 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Since assuming the role of Deputy Prime Minister, Wong has reaffirmed the strong economic and security partnership between Singapore and the United States. In June, he met with Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to strengthen bilateral defense initiatives.
This event is part of the CSIS ASEAN Leadership Forum, the premier Washington venue for senior officials from Southeast Asian countries and other key dialogue partners to address today’s pressing issues before a Washington, D.C.-based policy audience.

I have not observed DPM Lawrence in a comprehensive foreign interview before. Based on this interview, I am proud of our future PM and confident of his leadership for Singapore and her effective engagement with the world. Few nations have intentionally and effectively implement leadership succession. This is indeed a strategic strength of Singapore.

Impressive Singapore future Prime Minister..... If I am not mistaken, Singapore owe much of its success to the US, especially during its early days...Most of its top leaders are not only extremely well educated and smart, they are also the product of British and American Universities, especially the Ivy League Universities in the US. Consequently, I have no doubt the Singapore government is pro-US except that with a predominantly Chinese population of 70%, it has not choice but to strike a balance in its relationship with the US and China...
