Doug, what a wonderful interview. Hackett is such a brilliant, yet kind and gentle man. Thank you for asking him a unique set of questions that he's never been asked before. I met him once and he is everything that he appears to be on stage and in interviews.

My idol. Met Steve on Spectral Mornings tour in Bristol England. He truly is such an all round nice and very pleasant person, always has time for his fans. Looking forward to this album and seeing him on tour later this year in Bristol. I think he is a very underrated musician and writer. Jealous of you Doug, great interview and very interesting

Nice to hear an interview from a musician’s point of view. I didn’t realise Steve was quite so immersed in classical music. Great stuff. Thank you Doug!

I’ve been to a Steve Hackett show in São Paulo in 2015. What an experience to see this man & band alive playing its own classics + Genesis landmarks. He’s of a kind of special artists, above judgements, polemics or any kind of distraction but music. Excellent interview, long life both Steve & Doug.

Brilliant! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐➕ I SO enjoyed that! I suspect you were surprised at the extent of the classical influence in his music? Although perhaps not, given your observations in previous videos. I was. Booked to see Steve and the band on the Lamb Highlights tour in October. I think my seventh Hackett concert, and they just get better! Can't wait. Thanks once again Doug.

Saw Steve and his band touring alongside Renaissance some years back in Albany at The Egg. I knew Genesis music really well but didn't know anything about Steve. Since then, I've grown to appreciate both Steve's original music and his Genesis interpretations. In my case, Steve was correct to say he gets more support as he gets older. Between the internet educating us more beyond just what's on the recordings we know, learning to branch out from old favorites like Genesis to other projects like Steve Hackett's, and an older audience that yearns to embrace and appreciate their past influences into the present and future, Steve Hackett truly gets more and more support the older he gets, and he deserves it

My wife of 19 years died in 2011. Some nine or ten months later I had a dream that wasn't a dream. It was as real and as physical as anything in our waking world. In it my late wife came to and knocked at the door. She asked if we could talk. She apologized for dying and the pain it caused. She took her own life. She went on to say many other things during our conversation, which again unlike a dream, I recall very clearly. What I want to say here is that she told me that there is much more beyond "this existence" and when my "time" comes we can be together again. "If we want.".

What makes Steve so special is that, having mastered his instrument, he knows that you don't need to show off how many tricks you have up your sleeve. He knows that his skill needs to be used solely for the purpose of enhancing the music. Whether with Genesis or with his own solo work, Steve makes his guitar sing as no other guitarist can. No other musician has produced such a body of solo work, after leaving a sucessful group. I have only ever seen 3 live concerts and 2 of these were Steve's band.

I like the thought process for each piece. Steve is the genuine article. He always gives excellent performances. I saw home years back with his acoustic trio which shows how versitlie he can be. He has mentioned in the past his other classical influences including Segovia.

Like some of you who have posted comments here, I am fortunate to have met Steve Hackett in person - at Trading Boundaries, three weeks ago. I also had the privilege of meeting - and talking to - Steve's wife Jo, who is a lovely person! Today the new album can be found on Spotify, and I will start listening to it right away! Thank you Doug for reminding us!

What a wonderful conversation. Thanks for taking time to listen to his work and thought proces. It was very interesting. I listened to an album of Steve's recently, one I'd never heard of before. It's called "Under a Mediterranean Sky". Omg what a treat. Since I got into genesis music, which was when "A trick of the Tail" came out, I have been a fan of his and his first solo album "Voyage of the Acolyte" was to me, mindblowing, which goes for his releases ever since. Can't wait to get the latest album.

I started going to Genesis shows when both Steve and Peter Gabriel were members - Heartbroken when Steve left, but I've seen more tours of Steves now and consider myself more of a Hackett fan. Great interview, Doug - You have achieved the Art art of intervewing which is to get the guest to relax and open up. Interesting to know how Jo's input and their years of travelling have influenced his music.

Thanks, Doug! Nice job scoring Steve Hackett! Good conversation, with plenty of info. You really made him work hard to explain how he incorporates Classical influences into his music once he found out you were a composer. I think you would have been happy with any explanation of how he makes his music--he worked harder than he needed to! Anyway, thanks again, Doug. Seeing this has reminded me of something I've been meaning to ask you on Patreon.

Doug, you should react to Gusliar by Pesniary. Pesniary were a vocal and instrumental ensemble from the ussr, Gusliar is a 36 minute long piece, it's kind of an opera, it's kind of progressive rock, it's kind of folk music. It's a masterpiece! It's the best album ever made in the ussr!

WARNINGS: I won't be positive. Listened to the first 2 tracks for some days, then the whole today: boring. Always the same kind of heavy production without subtleties, no evident melodies, world rock without inspiration. I'm sorry, because I love Steve very much, but since 2009 and Out of the tunnel's mouth, he has lost the inspiration for me. And that's a shame because he's still an awesome musician, and he has got fantastic musicians with him on this album. It simply does nothing on me. Far, far, far away… from his masterpieces: Voyage of the Acolyte, Please don't touch, Spectral mornings, Defector, Guitar noir, Darktown, To watch the storms. I'm not happy to have to write that I'm completely deceived and frustrated, I won't buy this album, besides the cover art is awfully ugly.
