On this episode of This Past Weekend, Theo Von chats with coroner Toby Savoy about what it’s like being a death investigator in today’s world. They talk about about why he got into the business of corpses, the job no rookie wants to get, bloated bodies in the bayou, his take on the opioid crisis, what he’s learned after 18 years on the job, and why you can never really trust your cat…

Toby helped my family through a really tough time. He drove out of his jurisdiction just to meet with all of my family in one sitting. Some in my family were in denial and hard to deal with. He sat with us for at least one hour. He literally hugged everyone before he left. He really gave my family closer. We will never forget what he did for our family.

Dude, I’m so glad he mentioned the withdrawals from Lexapro. I experienced severe grief and trauma around 2019 and I was placed on Lexapro and trazodone both of them have antidepressants trying to get off of those after a couple years was a nightmare. I literally thought I was dying. I will get these things that are called brain zaps, and it just feels like your brain is shivering or vibrating or something. It’s very weird and hard to describe but I know people who were coming off the medication who also had the same symptoms coming off any depressants is very difficult and honestly it’s the only reason I haven’t gotten back on them and I’m strugglingpretty bad with my major depression

Love his shirt that says, "Last Responder" instead of first responder, Keepin' It Real. I learned a lot about the legalities of death when my sister died in New Orleans. I was surprised about the different stages of clearance and how nobody could go near the body when it was still the house. It was weird but i guess they were tryin to preserve the scene in case of foul play. It was a strange scene to be morning with family members in ur own living room surrounded by cop strangers telling you what you can and can't do. I also learned that autopsy's are not automatically done and if not you have to pay for it.

Both these men are legends, Theo asks the type of questions you would generally ask and nothing but respect to Toby for being super real and giving us a insight into a life of a coroner its very deep, I love the comedic and seriousness of this podcast perfect combination, Theo’s question has me laughing but genuinely thought they were good questions. Toby reminds me of Quinton Tarantino, big him up major respect to him 💪🏽

Yeah, I agree, some of his questions were very legit, like the one "what do you roll up with" asking Tiby what tools does he usually bring with or use on a case. Theo just asks them really weirdly imo.

So I being her sister freaked out ran around to some heart specialist and I found out that there was a test called a CAC CALCIUM TEST. I scored a zero and it’s such a relief when you get your test results because even if it was 100 that I scored they would put me on immediate medicine and I won’t just fall dead the next day! Please everybody that reads this please please please go get tested it’s so easy it’s in a hospital setting most of them you go inside a CT scan machine and you’re in and out in like 15 minutes it will save lives. A close friend of my fiancée died, it basically took away my late childhood, and tore so many lives apart here in Alabama & surrounding states. This is the first time I’ve ever heard it being mentioned publicly like this. The doctors don’t know about, paramedics, rehabs, etc. nobody talks about this stuff. Has to be the most difficult thing I’ve ever been through, but I overcame it & took control. The fact that no one talks about it makes you feel alone. You guys bringing awareness to it on this big of a platform is the first time I’ve felt heard in years. Keep doing what you’re doing. Just another reason this is my favorite podcast. Gang gang.
