He is an absolute craftsman. I work on the phones as my primary job and telling a story with your words and drawing people into what you are saying is a skill. Theo is highly creative so he is able to string words together that a lot of us can’t connect spontaneously like that. High personality trait openness. Check out Jordan Peterson’s big 5 personality lecture series. It is life changing and you can see how we differ and why comedians can do what they do better than most of us can.

It's interesting hearing all the details from this mortician as a Muslim because as part of our religion we don't do any embalming or cosmetics after death. Once dead, the body is washed in a particular way by the closest family members of the same sex as soon as possible and the deceased is buried in a plain pine coffin, generally and ideally within 24 hours. All of the funeral ceremony and viewing is basically combined into one ceremony where the family and friends do a prayer, view the body and then the body is taken directly to the graveyard. Tbh I'm not exactly sure why there's no embalming other than so the body can decompose naturally and go back into the earth over the time. As the funerals and viewings are done within 24hrs there really isn't any need for keeping the body viable for viewings for several days or even a week or more - which I've seen happen in several funerals for various types of Christians and a reformed Jewish family as well ... Very interesting stuff for some reason lol

@@MoAli-wm4of it used to be the same way here in the US but the death industry has taken over. I believe that's why people in the West view death in such a taboo way. We are no longer close to it. Back in the day the family would wash the body, have the service in their home (this was what the living room used to be used for) then they would be buried in a simple pine box.

My grandpa passed in October of 2020. I am unbelievably grateful to the morticians who worked on him and worked with our family. He had an open-casket funeral and looked like he was asleep, so much so I wanted to jump in the casket and shake him awake. He was buried in his favorite shirt, blue jeans, and his favorite cowboy boots. He had his reading glasses in his shirt pocket, his favorite cowboy hat on his chest, and his dog's (who had died a month or so before him) cremains at his feet in the casket. He had a wonderful veteran service and I'll never forget it. God bless Frank and all those who work with the dead and the grieving families.

2:06:47 The baby story 😢 Theo handled this so well; no jokes. When it comes to the tiniest most helpless it's very serious 💔 Thank you for sharing this very difficult story 😢 I'll never forget when I had a c-section, my 1st and only baby and was up walking around as soon as possible and I noticed a specific wing decorated with butterflies above and around the doors. I finally asked a nurse very quietly why there were doors with butterflies and signs to be very quiet... she softly told me, "Those rooms are for mothers who have just lost a baby or the baby is dying." I didn't say a word as tears poured out of my eyes and down my cheeks... the nurse grabbed a tissue out of her pocket wiped my cheeks and quietly said, "Good job walking; go love on your healthy baby." ❤😢❤ My heart was so very heavy. I made sure to explain to my husband what the butterflies and quiet signs were for. Bless all the mothers who've lost a baby; I'm so sorry 💔😢

Real talk Theo, talking to people like this is important not only to help with public perception of industries like these, but to help break down the taboo of death in general. There were a few questions that made me recoil, especially when the subject of dead children was broached.. but I think that talking to people like these on popular podcasts such as yours is very important to tearing down taboos and ultimately making death and such less wierd and uncomfortable on top of grieving.. you know?

My friend got murdered this year and when I went to the funeral it was odd as I knew him since we were both young boys, like 7-8 years old and im 32. He succumbed to a heroine addiction in his late 20's and lived on the street, we completely lost touch after some assault charges a few years back but i always hoped he'd find his way but nah, he got stabbed to death outside a homeless camp by a river. We hadnt been friends in years and he never really wronged me , but I could tell there was animosity toward him there at the funeral. I tried to talk during the funeral and my emotions were too much and i like choked my way through it. The older I've gotten the more empathetic I've become so it always amazes me how well funeral directors, pastors or morticians seem to handle it fairly well and talk and go about their business professionally. Neat guy to talk to Theo 👍

You are right about the fact that addiction changes people and eventually leads them to becoming tge worst version of themselves but i don't that your drug of choice makes you better or worse than the next addict. Like in my town, in South Carolina, I called my friend, who knew Momma, just after her passing. He dressed and was at the hospital at 3:45am, and my my children ( her only 2 grands) and I, viewed her at 9:15 am. Living in a small town, I knew about every local, and it's like dealing with family. Great podcast

@@rrw65Sorry I missed this, but God rest her soul. She's in a better place now. Since this, I've had my grandmama and papa pass away. We'll meet again. I look forward to it. God bless you as well 🙏

"Your momma and Jesus always loved ya, Theo!" That's a great message. I'm going to start saying that to people, regardless if their names are Theo or not.

Loving this "person with a niche job" type of podcast, would love to hear some stories from paramedics, garbage men, firefighters, crime scene cleanup folks, chicken farmers, family court lawyers, nurses, dog walkers, and prison psych ward guards.

@@kalebdeese3192 for that, look up ZACHARY KING TESTIMONY. He started by doing them illegally as a teen. Also hung with celebs as bohemian grove. Mind-blowing interview by a no name podcast

This guy is honestly a great guest. I love how Theo never got a straight answer out of him for every question asked. “Well it depends on..”
