Actually love this episode. Reminds me of several farms I sell hay to. Too bad the barn is so rough, looks like it was quite the place in its day.

Looks like a well used old White. Definitely would be a good one to save. I seen a couple Gleaner Combines on the way to get the bale. Those were good old machines. Most of the time the chore Tractor always started, might not have looked good. Looks like uncle is more of a hop it and run it guy, none of that fancy maintenance stuff. Thanks for the videos

Lol... this reminds me of the later years at the farm I grew up on. Unfortunately, towards the end, money gets tight you know how it goes. Maintenance takes a backseat. The year before the dairy cows were sold was just like this..messing with dead batteries and more time spent monkeying around to do a simple task. It's what makes me appreciate good maintenance with my own stuff today
@Adam_Poirier
@Adam_Poirier 2 жыл бұрын
Adding to this comment.. I would go up to spread a load of manure after work. There would be a jump pack, actually hanging from a ratchet strap tied to the frame of one of the 1800s like it was permanently installed to the tractor instead of just getting batteries lol. Those were the days
@joshk.6246

Yeah its rough and sad when money is that tight. Usually then folks start getting really depressed because they can't keep things going the way they were and it can speed up the process. Makes a guy really appreciate the blessings he has.

I can't remember the last time I put batteries in my feeder tractor and skid loader, when ya run them every day they tend to last a long time but when there junk there dam well worth replacing😆 My dad was the same way as your uncle, fed cows with a 170 allis and it had a rag in the oil fill port, vice grips on the throttle, milker inflation over the shift lever😆. He was a cow man but not much for equipment maintenance.

Wow! I can relate to that experience exactly! You had me laughing the whole time. After l stopped milking cows there was a guy in the next town over who lasted almost another 10 years. He had a free stall barn built for 60 cows back in the 70's and manged pile 130 milkers in it by the end. Cows were layed on the floor in the feed bunk etc. He'd call me to help when he got in a bind and of course you wanna feel bad. It was always an endless fuck around, one hassle right after the other. A few times l lost my shit and had to walk away. I used to tell him l could spend the day in a third world country and sleep in my own bed at.

A few years ago, I helped my wife's uncle plant soybeans in New Troy Mi. while he was in the Army reserve. The engine oil was just touching the dip stick. Ther wasn't any hydraulic oil in the tractor & the air filter was so plugged I couldn't get any air through it with the air hose. 1 good thing though was it had 2 new batteries in it. I believe as long as it started it was good to go. That fall I helped them pick corn, they put homemade bin extinctions on the combine. I was riding with him on the combine and about 3/4 of the way down the field and the bin was running over, he asked me if I thought we could make it to the end of the field, I just looked at him and said it's already running over might as well keep going, it didn't even bother him. They have/had all sorts of tractors in the woods fence lines that were Junk from proper Maintenace.

Got it from a junkyard and from what he has told me all he ever did was take the head off to have the manifold surface resurfaced and put a different manifold because the other one was cracked or something I think. It’s a pretty solid tractor and I kinda like driving it. Sounds mean too. And also those old farmers with the messy farms and all the tractors and implements laying around have the best farms to explore and buy projects and old stuff from imo lol. They’re not my cattle to sell so we come back to you not paying very good attention and not having very good ideas.

I'm sorry to say, but from the state of Your Uncles equipment. Your Uncle would be better to rent out his land and sell the cattle. If you had to spend this much time getting the tractor to move he can't be that efficient. I've know a lot of old timer farmers that just can't give it up and end up old and broken. Because they break a bone or puncher skin when they are trying to fix something that was broken on equipment.

hey i quess you have to get a pony motor in it i own a ealry 60s russian made mtz 50 and its a 2 wd small 50 horse tractor it has a small cab 9 gears a water cooled engine and it starts without a battery if you really need it to it has a pony motor like most russian bigger tractors had because batteries are expencive and so you can start the gas engine with a pull rope mine ahs a stareter in the gas engine that starts the diesel im done with dead batteries i bought my tractor after dad sold our pervious one it was a 16 horse t16 that had a dump bed in front and a drawbar in the back a 2 silinder aircooled engine and it was a mess also no power steering and so yeah we had a starter on it and if the batteries were full it started pretty good but yeah i got tired of the mess with batteries and so i bought a machine that doesnt need a battery i dont farm but do a bit of logging and i love that little beast

It is discouraging when people do this to their equipment. I have relatives that are the same way.
