On stream we watched the Jocats crap guide to melee dps in FFXIV and as always these videos are the perfect combination of informative and hilarious. Jocat is one my favourite content creators for FFXIV and it's always a pleasure to watch these, so wanted to share on the channel.
I've watched all of these crap guide videos and they are so good and the crap guide to melee DPS definitely didn't disappoint! As someone coming from WoW, there are so many small parts to the game that you totally miss, so definitely check out the other FFXIV guides if you found this informative.

Honestly speaking, I'd say Reaper is even simpler than Dragoon to pick up. Plus, they have the smallest amount of positionals to worry about, and those positionals aren't even part of your regular combo. The only thing you'll have to get used to is making sure you maintain your Shadow of Death debuff on the enemy

Yeah, reaper is indeed really easy. It *seems* confusing at first but it really isn't, at all.

Yeah, I love Reaper but I'll be the first to admit its easy as fuck. Its the only class I've started where I figured out the rotation for myself (partially cause there were no video guides up yet from the guy I watch for those) and it was so easy. Put damage increasing dot up > press button that gives you and party more damage for a few seconds > press button to give you full gauge > gluttony > blue attack 1 > blue attack 2 > giant glowy crystal line attack > spooky mode > spooky slice 1 > spooky slice 2 > spooky crystal slice > spooky slice 1 > spooky slice 2 > spooky crystal slice > communio > whatever the single target less damaging gluttony is called > blue attack 1 > go into 123 combo until stuff gets off cooldown and don't forget to refresh your damage up dot.

The "full ring"s are in Palace of the Dead, Eureka, Bozja, etc and some bosses and raid targets.

Pretty much any side of arena boss is omni.

Yeah, the intent of the full rings are for types of content where tanks aren't guaranteed to be in the party, and therefore the game needs to give some leeway to melee DPS in case they become the defacto tank and thus are unable to hit the rear/flank. Also, some large bosses who are bigger than the arena will have full-circles because you can't ever physically get to the rear/flank.

Never seen Midieval Marty before and enjoyed the video very much but I cannot tell you the relief I felt when after saying "I never use positionals" it said I main heals.

Since no other Ninja in the comments clarified the Ninja thing, the longest mudra combo has 3 button presses. You can glimpse the real sequences right before the skill floor police arrive. If you mash together 4-20 mudra in a single combo, you're just getting a bunny on your head and making a lot of noise (which has its own merits).

If melee dps uses feint, it means they are actualy a tank or healer main trying a less useful job.

As I’m not a high-end raider, I tend to only use Feint when I think the boss is about to do either a Tank Buster or an attack that damages everyone no matter where they are. Since it decreases the target’s physical and magic damage, it helps makes things more survivable, and helps healers by making it so they don’t need to heal as much.

Of course I use Feint. Ever since it was basically imperative during a new raid prog because the tankbuster would otherwise one-shot the tank even with cooldowns. And because I'm a nice guy. Usually.

I am a tank main, so when I do play melee, I actually use feint to make it easier on the tank/ healer. It's an OGCD and costs me no uptime, so why not use it? lol

"LB's the boss 3 expansions late" I don't appreciate being called out like this. I either forget LB is a thing for a minute or I'm in 8 or 24 player content and just think someone else is gonna do it before me if there's even 1 other melee damage dealer in my group lol.

Question: how do you actually lb? I'm still not sure how to physically do it

@@elenafriese891 In your actions and traits there should be an icon with an orange glowy sword in the general tab. Take that and put it somewhere on any of your bars. I personally have it bound to one of my other hotbars that don't have my class abilities on it, and just have that slot keybinded to L. So when I need to Limit break, I hit L.

As a reaper main: It's easy just know where to stand because positionals xD (i still fuck them up)

Reaper is the easiest class positional wise, cause only the blue attacks that you unlock after getting enough gauge to use either gluttony or whatever the single target version is called uses positionals and literally everything else is normal. You don't need to worry about positionals for Reaper in any content under level 70.

It and Addle no longer boost your damage, but they reduce the target enemy's damage.
