A blue roan is a black horse with roan gene. Grey is a double recessive color, 1 parent has to be grey to throw grey.

Actually, you can have a heterozygous grey or a homozygous grey. One dominant (G) and one recessive (g) (half of the offspring will be grey and half non-grey if bred to a non-grey) or GG (all offspring will be grey). It is actually a dominant gene. I worked on an Arabian ranch where the majority of the horses were grey.

I love the second Navaho blanket with the white, red and black stripes on it bluebell it’s beautiful. Well all the blankets are beautiful the one you showed hanging on the fence would look good in your home. Bluebell is a gorgeous mare she looks like a gray to me. My granddaughter just showed her pig in our county fair in Northern California and she took 3rd place. she did so great. 🐖 She got a really good price for it and several donations for her next project. I think it’s a great idea for kids to be in 4H. FFA or anything to do with animals they learn a lot and it gives them responsibilities that they learn from. God Bless🙏🏻

Blue roans have a color pattern an even mixture of black and white hair which would create a blue appearance. A gray roan is a color pattern intermingled white hair with the horses base color. The horse you have is a gray roan.

our grey filly started dark chocolate went to dark blue roan looking to gun metal grey(the blue and white hairs mixed evenly giving a metal shine) and she eventually turned full on white grey with red flea bites...her mother was a full blown grey with dark points but was full grey by the time she pasted in 2020. Look back at blue bell pictures and compare.

The bars in a horses eye take about 15 minutes to open fully (dilate). So when going from bright sunlight into a dark trailer, they can’t see very well. To make it a little less stressful on the horse, face the rear of the trailer into the sunlight and open any front doors if there are any to allow more light at the darkest end as well as both rear doors if they are split doors. You can tie up the hoses to the entry end to give time to adjust to the situation for 10 minutes and the likelihood with all these factors of them going in easily are heavily in their favour. Yes you can force them i with agitation (smacking the tail croup continuously, but it isn’t as kind and trust-enstilling :) Xx

I agree with Alan, roans will keep a dark face in particular around the eyes, she is starting to lighten around the eyes. A roan should have a dark face, dark legs and dark main and tail. Grays will lighten in the face as they age as well as on the legs, the main and tail can stay dark or lighten over time.

Beautiful Blue Roan (or Gray)... All your horses need to strengthen their necks, which can be done by teaching them how to go into "collection." Which is important, especially for working horses... There's lots of instruction on YT on how to do that... I admire you for your involvement with your kids, getting them outside and helping with the animals!! I bet a lot of parents wish they could keep their kids away from tech and go outside--safely.

Bluebell is blue roan. Greys no matter what breed have dapples.
@KeepUSAFree4real
@KeepUSAFree4real 3 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. Greys lighten with every shedding, some take a long time to lighten, some lighten rapidly. Some go through a gorgeous dappled grey stage, some don't. Some become milk-white with age and others become a flea-bitten (freckled grey) grey. I always wished you could keep the shade you liked the most, but we haven't found that secret. Greys can be born chestnut, bay or black.
@julierussell8876

@@KeepUSAFree4real correct they don’t stay dappled they go white with brown flea spots as I call it. But when they are dark like blue bell there is usually a dapple present
