Looking forward to this one. Thanks Dr. Chapp and Dr. McCarthy

Excellent interview. Informative. In depth. Refutes the literal insanity of the twisted anti-humanism of the fans of the freakish.

Excellent! I remember well Dr. McCarthy’s point papers in her theological anthropology class at JPii. You both got the point on the real issues at stake with the gender question. Thanks for the additional reading assignments! Both very good and thoughtful teachers!

Hi Larry! Serious question here that I haven’t heard addressed around this issue: how do we tease out what in nature is good and what in nature is bad? I agree that puberty is given, but so is tuberculosis! There seems to be a lot of things given to us that are indeed bad that we fight with technology. Death is inherent in the system. It seems to me that the Hobsian view is that because we are given death, we have to fight it, and so there is a skepticism surrounding anything that is given. So how do we tease out what is good?

The popular view would be that nature itself is good, but corruptable and only fixable through the redemptive work of Jesus. This view would be challenged by dualisms, including arguably some what the church believes like Augustine, and official heresies like manicheanism, Gnosticism, and arguably nietzsche. A third view which seems to be more mystical is something like a happy accident view which holds to a mysterious relationship that gives rise to speculations about nature which in themselves are not the content of truth but are attempts at it. A “heretical” view might be pantheism, that all are God anyway. The problem with critics of transgenderism is that they need to go this mystical view in the first instance to unfold a plausible genealogy as revealed truth in personhood and Christ should be the basis for the way. At least I’m persuaded of that. Hence we pray for the doing of God’s will rather than the simple completing of our nature. Which isn’t to say transgender identity and alteration is necessarily the correct path. Or that we don’t really have something like a nature that should be completed, or certainly that we aren’t assailed by the fall.

Excellent contributor to a contemporary discussion that has been skewed by the activists who say that ‘there no there there’.
