The clean tones on the APP-1 are very transparent. Edge of breakup overdrive is also nice. Heavy dirt unusable.

Absolutely get a high quality rack mount EQ not a parametric say a 31 band and you dial in any tone you want !! I am an ADA gear head lol

@@iyadiswariadi I decided to use Guitar Rig. Honestly, computer sound processing sounds fantastic these days. I had a lot of electronic equipment back in the 80s before the software stuff came out. It's a lot more versatile and economical, but I know people that prefer analog. I had planned to buy the ADA but found Guitar Rig instead.

Tom, I admire you greatly; your playing is stellar ! I had bought one of these APP-1 preamps when they first came out. Mine was defective and I sent it back to ADA, they repaired it for free and I got it back very quickly. Ultimately, however, I sold it because mine did not sound anything like yours. I was frankly quite disappointed as I had expected much more from it after reading rave reviews and hearing some demos. I found the only usable setting was with the Bloom control all the way up; anything else was just softer in volume but the difference in sound was quite subtle - to the point where I was questioning whether it actually was doing anything other than attenuation. My MP-1 sounded a gazillion times better, wish I hadn't sold it when I got away from rack gear in the 2000's.

ADA sells a cab sim pedal as well. Can't use this direct and expect it to sound like a mic'd amp on its own.

This ADA APP-1 pedal does sound very good. They just added the ADA MP-1 channel with dual 12AX7As. It is pretty much an ADA MP-1 crammed into a pedal.Watch out for a demo for that one soon. I imagine the ADA APP-1 and the new ADA MP-1 channel will be very good together. I modified a rack case into an amp head. I have one of my ADA MP-1 preamps, installed in the head. This guitarist is not compatible with this pedal..some glam rocker or Thrasher shredder will show more possibility what this pedal can give...this is heavy metal machine not blues jazzy pedal
