I'm really enjoying the viper and the hornet, remember both are awesome BFM fighters as long as they stick to their own game plan. Thank you for watching and thank you sabre for helping with this video.
@debbiestimac51752 жыл бұрын
They were built for the same lightweight fighter competition for the USAF back in the day, YF-17 lost to the YF-16 and was later naval-ized into the Hornet. Imagine if the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels did an aerial combat competition instead of a flight demonstration, just once would be amazing! With Growling in a chase plane giving commentary. "The F-16 left his burner on in that dive, he's going to need to slow down to get back to corner speed! Yes, his airbrakes are out! He caught his mistake! But the Hornet seems to have had some sort of cobra button installed! Look at that nose authority!!!" 😁

Always my two favourites - stemming from flying both on the Amiga game F/A-18 Interceptor back in 1990! Before your time, but if you want a giggle at how far flight sims have come since then, check out some footage on YT - revolutionary wireframe graphics for its day. Flying beneath the Golden Gate Bridge will always stay with me. Great vid, BTW. Cheers

"They are balanced in the sense that both can win if they fight their own fight" YES. More gamers should have this mindset...Maybe more people in general : )

Especially in games like DCS and other simulators. They aren’t meant to be balanced, they’re made to be as realistic as possible

Unfortunately there's a ton of people who think like that, the pilot matters a helluva lot more than the plane.
@AbsoluteyAmerican2 жыл бұрын
I agree, but again, it seems like his opponents don’t fight to the strengths of their plane. I often wonder if his opponents are above average fighters but don’t know the airplane they are in or they know the airplane but are average skill wise.

"Balance is not what you want in a simulator" - thank you for that! Some don't get that. And they [the platforms] don't have to be 100% perfect replications of X - the performance should however be representative, as much as possible, and relative [to each other].
@davegrenier11602 жыл бұрын
I've watched you fly the Viper in the past and thought "The F-16 should be quicker and more agile than that." I recall that the aircraft was designed to be unstable (the computer keeps the nose facing forward) to facilitate maneuverability, and that its light weight was supposed to make it quick. My impression of the new mod - It's what I would expect based on the design philosophy of the aircraft.
@ZigzagEnd2 жыл бұрын
yeah modern jets have flybywire systems that interpret the pilot's inputs, the rudder for instance makes the aircraft roll a bit, the flybywire prevents that by adjusting its roll to 0 if its not an input of the pilot
@knightzing2 жыл бұрын
All fighter jets are designed tp be unstable and require some sort of fly-by-wire system to make use out of their instability. Instability allows for maneuverability, but requires computer assistance and could result in the aircraft altering other aerodynamic features, such as lift and drag.

thank you for the balance comment - many of us would leave DCS if it became more about balance and game like. Its a simulator and we want as close to the actual flight model etc as we can get. Every airframe has advantages and disadvantages - know your airframe and know your enemy :) . the word balance in relation to DCS scares me as well

Since I can remember I have been a huge fan of fighter aircraft and have been enjoying DCS for several years. The insight and attention to detail you provide in your videos is greatly appreciated. I own several DCS modules including the F14 since its release and have been thinking about purchasing the F-16 for several months. I think your most recent line of videos focusing on the Viper’s updated flight model has provided the straw…. Thank You! On a side note, as I’m sure you and most of this channel’s fans know, the USAF Thunderbirds tour has recently kicked off. (Tour schedule is available online) I hit their show last year and their redesigned routine is POWERFUL and awe-inspiring. This year I’m once again praying for good weather for either their New Windsor NY or Avoca PA shows. Stay safe….

Thank you GS for the videos you share. In a past video or two, I believe you alternate aircraft between matches. I truly enjoy those types to get a sense of how you adjust to the aircraft you had just flown. It would have been interesting to see you pilot the Hornet in the second match after your victory in the Viper in the first. You did say, "that these aircraft are balanced in that they can win if they fight their own fight." If anyone can pilot an aircraft in validation of this, it is you. Well, until you think everything is okay right before a missile strikes you in true GS fashion. Thank you again!

In real life, years ago, the Green Mountain Boys used to take their F-16s up to Bagotville regularly to do DACT with the Hornets there. I understand they were a handful for each other, great rivalry. The pilots would try to milk every ounce of advantage they could, even wanting to remove pylons to gain that 0.00000001% edge.

Assuming you're on DCS standalone, not steam, you can access all modules on DCS in a "trial" for 14 days, completely free. You redeem each module individually, so I'd try the hornet for 14 days, then after that's up try the viper. Then decide

Get both. OK seriously, get the 18 first. More complete and mature as sims go. It can employ an obscene amount of different weapons AND you can use it on a carrier if you get bored of 10,000 feet runways. I tell ya, operating off a carrier is a hoot. When the F16 is more complete, buy it later.

So a question, as I understand it if your fighting a 1 circler like the hornet you want them on the deck so you can force the 2 circle. How should you go about getting them to the deck, because as I understand it, if you get into the 1 circle while they have altitude your very much dead. I saw you did a split s in the first fight which is one tatic, but Id assume normally you'd stay in the 2 circle and let them drop the fight down when they need to get speed?
@iceyibis48762 жыл бұрын
Ok so I know it’s a game but it’s also a simulator, so I don’t really think it matters if the game is balanced as it’s meant to be realistic and in real situations like we see in the game battles aren’t balanced.
