Hi, my name is Emi. I'm born in raise in small town just outside Quebec City, this is where my lovely accent comes from. My #vanlife story starts in September 2018. After a long-term relationship that I was trying for more than a year to rebuild, I decided it was time to end this toxic relationship once for all. This is where I decided to move away from this man that I was still in love with. I put all my belongings inside my SUV (GMC Jimmy) and moved six hours from where I was living. I didn’t know where I would sleep, didn’t know where I would work, but I knew I needed to make a drastic move. At that time, I told myself I would only sleep in my car for a month while looking for a place to rent. What I didn’t know is that one month became another month and another month. In the end, I end up sleeping in my car for a full year. Even if people consider this the lowest time of my life, this experience was the best thing I couldn’t have done with my life. I took that year to focus on myself, decide what I wanted, and most importantly, what I didn’t want. That year made me also realize that for so long, I was chasing the wrong dreams. I was chasing what society wanted me to be: to have a big house, a steady job, kids, get married… None of those dreams was making me happy. In September 2019, while I was actively looking for a van, I received a phone call that someone had found my cat (Kelly). After trying for hours with no success to communicate with my ex-boyfriend (who was taking care of her), I decided to drive the six hours to go pick her up. Without going into too much detail, it turns out he wasn’t able to take care of her anymore. So I brought her in a cat kennel for a couple of days until I found a van we both could live in. I put all the savings that I had accumulated while living in my car and bought my van (a 2011 Ford Econoline that I end up adding a hightop) In the beginning, It wasn’t so glamour. My cat and I were sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the van. We both had to adjust. Now, my cat loves this lifestyle as much as I do; she looks at the window while I’m driving, and she loves exploring new places. Since then, my cat Kelly and I have been living full-time in my self convert van.

My cousin use to have around 100 head of bison..They were just like cows..When we use to feed them we had to unroll the round bales right among them and there was never a problem ..Of course i would never try that with wild ones..They make grunting noises like a bunch of pigs..The big bull was huge bigger than the ones on here but he was gentle..They had a cabin that i would stay in sometimes and the big bull would come and lay right in front of the cabin every night just a few feet from the door. I almost tripped on him one night in the dark..I think he must have been raised like a pet..He seemed to want to be around people.. My dog would bark and bark at him but after a few nights they became friends and he stopped barking..I have a soft spot for them now and will always have fond memories of that Big ole Bison Bull...

I had a Bison corner me, when we were camping. When we came face to face he turned on a dime and went the other way. They are huge with tiny hoofs that sound like thunder. I went under the picnic table.

I’m sorry for your loss. I lost my 17 year old at the start of the pandemic. It took me awhile to heal but I got a little kitten two years ago and she’s helped filling the hole in my heart.

Oh yeah, they are something. I worked with some at a wildlife preserve park, and they knew me and were fine w me...unless they were in a mood. And when they are scared or angry, they often run at the source of what they think the threat is...to trample it! I had to scale a ten foot fence very fast one day I didn't even know I was capable of doing that! Take care! 💗

That is a dangerous place to go! A month ago, I went with my neighbor to the animal shelter to get a kitten for her. It was so hard walking out without a kitten! My cat would actually like to have a small dog to live with. I'm not a dog person. I love everyone else's dog, though! 😻🐈🐕

I'm so glad no one tried to pet the 'fluffy cows!" It's not smart to argue with them either. When it comes to homing cats, dogs, parrots, guinea pigs, etc. It isn't possible to take care of them all. Right now I have 3 small dogs. A 16 and 14 yr old. The other one is 6. The 14 yr old has only been with us a few months.I would love more but my house isn't that big. I am putting a van together, and already they have more space than I do. Lol

Bison are best viewed like you did, in your van. They are a wild animal. I rescued 2 kittens last fall, they have a nice tac room to stay in at our barn. If I could take all I would too. Take Care, Blessings 💕

We have a Buffalo ranch a road away, my cousin wanted to take pics, the bulls head was as tall as me (5'3")! When that bull started to paw the ground and "low growl " even the pipe railing didn't make me feel safe!! Give them a wide bearth, they are totally unpredictable!!! I can't imagine bear spray working, they are just to fast! Stay safe ❣️

The far lake there is very nice and there are 2 nice loops to hike where you can see beaver - beaver dams and wildlife. The beavers usually are out in the early morning or later evening.

How awesome being so close to the gorgeous wildlife. For some reason, this made me think of a place we used to go all the time when my daughter was younger. We used to camp at a place in south Florida called Lion Country Safari. We would camp there, and in the mornings you would wake up to the lions roaring as they fed them. Such a cool experience. Thanks for jogging that memory for me

Hello Emi and Kitty lovely video, if you check at 8.25 into your video just off to your right level with your head and about 15 metres away from you, you will see something black with a tail climbing a tree, you wasn't looking that way so you wouldn't have noticed, I am curious to know if it was a black bear Love from the UK. stay safe.

I really enjoy your footage of animals. The Pelicans feeding was something I have never witnessed in my long life. I watch a lot of nature documentaries. This was a big treat, thank you. The only time I saw bisons they were inside an enclosure in Colorado, so there was no danger of getting too close to them 😊

Emi! So fun to see you in my neck of the woods. I live in Edmonton. Elk Island Park is a real treasure, less than an hour away from home. It was started as an Elk preserve and there are over 1,000 of them. They're not as brazen as the Bison, though.

Be careful Emmy, buffaloes have been known to attack vehicles and even gore, trample and kill people who are stupid enough to approach them. Both males and mothers with calves can be especially dangerous. You should look up Buffalo Attacks if you want to see what I mean. I'm glad you not in the fires or land slide area. Be safe 🙏.

A number of years ago my family lived in a rural area and there were bison farms around us but they were all contained behind fences One night my sister was driving home on a back road when all of a sudden ‘Satan’ appeared in front of her in the headlights 😅. Yes it was an old rogue bull that just wandered around the area - right in the middle of the road! She stopped and had to wait until he decided to move on. 😂😂

The reason it's called "Elk Park" is because in 1906 the government was petitioned for it to be set up as an elk sanctuary.

I had the same experience in Antelope Island State Park in Utah this past winter. I was traveling with my two dogs and we woke up in the morning with bison surrounding our van. They are amazing and beautiful, but it was a little bit terrifying. Apparently they react to dogs as predators, which is understandable!

OMG! The humane society it TOTALLY dangerous for me too! My heart breaks for those poor animals. The kittens/cat you were petting were so sweet. The Bison on the other hand, I don’t know about “sweet”, but I love the wild life. It’s a good thing to stay clear of those Bison, they have been known to attack people! Great video. I've seen them gore vehicles! I'm close to Yellowstone Park and we see them constantly there! They also try to pet grizzly bears!
