If I were running Japan by Food head honchos, I would brand on Shizuka Anderson. Shizuka effortlessly bridges the East/West cultures delivering in depth and entertaining vlogs. Her personality is very likable and relatable.

That view from Gifu Castle is something else. I also really like the setup of those river boats. It looks so relaxing to have dinner by the water - in such a communal fashion. Shizuka and team - great job!

Yes! I think the method of fishing is really unique and it will be quite an experience to be on the boat! Not to mention the floating toilets! 😆

I was in Gifu city 2 years ago. Shirakawago was my highlight during traveling in Gifu perfecture. Using onsen to see the Gifu castle at night, under the moonlight, was very cool……

Gifu is so nice. I've been living here for +15 years and I think the only place I'd move over Gifu would be Kyushu.

Great tips and interesting trip, I go to Gifu sporadically because my family lives there, it would be interesting to see the places you recommended. About the bicycle dealer, it's another very interesting thing, because here in Japan there aren't these types of shops, so it's very rare to see them. There is a place that I went to and I recommend it to you, it is Satoyama Park, there you can be amazed by beautiful landscapes, animals, ride a go-kart, onsen and foot onsen, go down the zip line too and there are good restaurants. Maybe a great place for dates 💕

Thank you so much for sharing! Satoyama Park sounds like an amazing spot, especially with all those activities! We’ll definitely have to check it out.

I stayed in Gifu when I visited Japan in November 2023. It was lovely. I'm currently finalizing the plans for my next visit during Spring 2025 and Gifu is most definitely on my list of places to visit. Actually, most of my 5 week visit will be all around Chūbu; it's such a nice change of pace compared to the "big" cities.

Thanks for sharing your experience in Gifu! We're so glad to hear you loved it. Chūbu has so much to offer, and it’s a great choice for a more relaxed vibe. Thanks again Shizuka! Another wonderful video! That was so interesting to see the fishing and how it was done in the past. It amazes me how humans lived in the past and get a glimpse of what they did to survive. Amazing!! This is another experience I would love to try! Also, those squirrels. So cute and I want to feed them now. Great job again and I can't wait to visit Japan next year so I can enjoy all these wonderful foods and experiences your beautiful country has to offer.

Thank you so much! We’re so happy you enjoyed the video and found it fascinating! It really is incredible to see the traditional ways of living and how much effort went into daily survival. 🐿 And yes, those squirrels are just the cutest! We hope you get the chance to experience all these amazing things firsthand when you visit Japan next year! If you need any tips or recommendations for your trip, feel free to check out other videos or our website! 😊

If By Food wants to do a series showing off lesser-known places in Japan, I would love to see a video about Fukui prefecture. Specifically Fukui city, Katsuyama and Ono. There is so much culture and food there, including a type of crab that's only available seasonally, several impressive castles and temples, and one of the best dinosaur museums in the world.

Those squirrels were huge. In the UK we have the grey which looks similar. Introduced from America I think. The reds are cuter but a harder to find now as the greys dominate and in fact cannot co-exist.
