I have had your allergy to mixed metals since I was a child! Thanks mom for giving me your sensitive skin and other "wonderful bag of genetic goodies"! *HEAVY SARCASIM!* I first found out about it when I was 7! (a few months after my birthday...maybe a few weeks...can't remember if my cousin's wedding was in the late spring or summer and I am a 4/19 baby...anyway, it was near Orlando and since we hit Disney (world or land?!) if this hadn't happened for a kid it would have seemed like a dream birthday! anyway, back to the "real" story...) I was at her wedding and I had what my parents were apparently told were these 100% real pearl earrings (up until this point I had ONLY worn 1 or 2 pairs of earrings I had gotten from Cartoon Cuts (the studs they put in after piercing and had zero issues as I guess mom new about a previous bad reaction or all of the ones they gave/give out are "real" just incase and I think one from an actual jewelry store that I picked out) but they could NOT tell me if they got them from a reputable dealer who could and should be able to 8-9 times out of 10 be able to tell you accurately that they are "legitimately authentic" and not plate or a stall or other place that might not be able to do such extensive authenticity checks! That said, either the backings, the pearls themselves, a combo of the two, etc. were "off" and my ears/holes closed RAPIDLY! Like, they were in 13-15 minutes tops and in 5 of those minutes completely sealed over to the point where I was bawling in pain and they couldn't get meds to them fast enough! My dad (the general practitioner), had the "brilliant" idea that instead of rushing me to the hospital to surgically remove them which could scar the ears possibly/more than likely permanently to hold me down, subject me to more insurmountable pain and torture me by yanking me out to "save" my ears! It was so bad my overly sweet and doting cousin and hubby to be and wedding party (95% family) decided to stay with me and it was about to start! I think the hubby may have been in medicine or a med student and he had his reservations!

I'm sorry to hear about your allergy! I've had a nickel allergy my whole life so it also makes buying jewelry kinda hard. I've found it helps if you REALLY like a necklace you know isn't pure gold or silver, to put the chain and back of the pendant(if there is one) with clear nail polish. That makes a barrier between your skin and the metal BUT if it's extra crappy metal there's a chance it could turn green ._. But what you said about not even being able to wear the hypoallergenic stuff made me think! I always try to wear the sensitive solution type earrings but they always hurt anyway and I've always thought that was because I don't wear earrings enough and that was why my ears always go red(not itchy and rashy like my neck does when I wear a necklace with nickel) and feel irritated. But I've never had a problem with makeup, I'm sorry to hear that happens for you!

Metal allergy sucks. I was fine with gold (for earring) when I was a kid, but once I hit puberty it was... horrible DX really really horrible. I was afraid my earlobe would rot and fall off or something. I really wonder why I was fine before and then all of a sudden I got the allergy (not only metal, but food too)

I've had one my entire life, and it is very limiting on jewelry choices (though a lot of places now sell sterling silver, so that's good!). I never realized that makeup could have metal in it! I'll have to do my own research now that I've been wearing make up more recently. Congrats again on 100K!!

about your allergy. if by any chance you eat a lot more fish than you previously used to now that you're in japan (which is probably the case since fish is in everything over there) that might be the cause of your allergy. fish, especially japanese coastal fish, is full of heavy metals (because of the sea water chemical composition in that area). what happens is the metal you intake from eating fish stacks up in your body (your fat cells work as a reservoir for heavy metals, in gluteus, breasts, upper legs, cheeks, and most importantly in your liver). at a certain point your you end up with more metal (of a specific type) than your body can bear and you start rejecting it, noticing the reaction on your skin for starters. some metals don't do much other than giving you an itcy or red skin rash (skin peeling sometimes, swallen areas where you wear metal, like ears, fingers, around the bellybutton where your pants button is etc). other kinds of metals tho like nickel, cadmium, zinc, can do much worse to the point you'll start feeling sleepy, tired, generally unwell. before reaching that point you should do an allergy test at the hospital because it takes a long long time to get rid of metal poisoning from your system. i had the very same problem with several metals, gold included (pure gold doesn't exist in jewelry, it's mixed with copper, nickel or platinum, sometimes even palladium). 10 years later i still have to cook in glass pans, i've been told that my immune system is compromised and i'll develop more allergies of different kinds because of metal poisoning (and the doctor was right, i'm discovering a new allergy every couple years). please get checked cause if you ever decide to have kids you could pass the metal poisoning over to your baby when he's still a fetus.
@TexaninTokyo8 жыл бұрын
Woah. I've never heard of that. That's definitely something I should check out.

Eye makeup has metal in it?! Wow that's really good to know! Grats on 100k! There is something about being invited to a swanky, exclusive party that really makes you feel like you've arrived. I got invited to a fancy charity masquerade thanks to some work I did with a nonprofit earlier this year. We were told to wear "costumes or cocktail attire" and any costume should be fine. When we got there, every last person was wearing black-tie formal attire and cat ears. My husband and I were dressed as Mork and Mindy. My husband committed the sin of using the wrong spoon at some point and a waiter looked at him like he'd just dribbled down the front of his shirt. One of the celebrity guest speakers was drunk off his ass for his speech. Basically, it was awesome, I'm still laughing about it, and I never want to do it again!

So sorry to hear about your allergies! I also have nickel allergy and it's not nice, I never wear any kind of jewelery anyways, so it's no big deal to me tho. First time hearing about the mascara problem too! And wow is it expensive. If you don't have problems with make up remover, I'd suggest you pour a couple of drops into the mascara container when it starts to dry out (not run out) so it lasts longer, and repeat when it dries out again. I do it all the time and helps with keeping my mascaras for longer, and they work as good as new.

I also have a Nickel allergy. I wear either gold, titanium, or tungstan carbide. If I wear hypoallergenic jewelry (for special occasions) I use hydrocortisone cream on it. That usually helps for a few hours and I put some on my skin. As for make-up I only use mineral make-up like bare minerals or similar. It's super expensive but it lasts me a really long time. Personally I see you as one of those girls that's so naturally beautiful you don't need make-up. BTW you also looked lovely for the KZbin party.

I am sensitive to a lot of metal as well, but I found that surgical steel jewelry doesn't make me react at all. My biggest issue was earrings, but after switching to surgical steel I haven't had any problems :) The only downside is that it tends to be a little more expensive than the cheap jewelry you can find in most stores, but it's worth it to look cute and not itch like crazy! Also I had no idea that mascara has metals in it... that would explain why it makes my eyes so itchy!! I will start looking for metal free mascara ^_^
