The reason why so much ancient Chinese architecture has survived in Shanxi is because the province has a very dry climate, which helps to preserve the wood of the temples and statues.
@EsaiasP3 жыл бұрын
It was the last province the communists took over after KMT beat the Japanese army. Local people didn't want to destroy ALL of their cultural heritage during the cultural revolution, like in other parts of China.

No, it was one of the bases for CCP during anti Japan occupation due to its mountainous landscape. Many famous battles and heroes and heroines were from this province in the WWII.

It is also because the Chinese use Tung oil to preserve their wood. China is the only producer of Tung oil and the west recently discovered it. The beauty of Tung oil is that it is natural and non-toxic. Chinese use it on their wooden chopping block.

Thanks for the video Lee and Oli. ShanXi is the home to the ancient Jin state back to the east zhou dynasty(the Spring and Autumn period). They exist almost the same time as the ancient Greece. During this period China was divide into several small and large states. Jin is one of the super power at that time. I highly recommand to have a visit to the acient capital of other big states like, qi(shandong), qin(shaanxi), chu(hubei) You can learn from the history and stories on what cause a state to fall and thrive.
