I have pots which means when I go from a laying or sitting possision I can pass out. I also have EDS which means I have weak connective tissue, so I often sprain my ankle or have random body parts pop out of place. I *also* have anxiety, depression and PTSD. I think I should get a service dog but my parents said that I can get one when I move out even though I *need one now*

Hi! I just started researching service dogs and stumbled upon some of your videos from a year ago. I figured I’d comment on this video since it’s more recent. I was watching your pros & cons video. Did you train Finnegan yourself or get from a program? Also did you just save up a ton of money because seeing the prices of service dogs is astounding. I know the price is reasonable because of how much time money and effort is put into training them. It just seems hard for the average person to initially obtain a service dog.

hi! yes! so finnegan is considered owner trained, but i had a lot of help from professional trainers starting when he came home. owner training is typically cheaper than getting a dog through a program, but it has its downfalls because it can be a lot mentally and physically on the handler. i agree, getting service dogs is very difficult and a huge commitment, and honestly it's not super accessible, which is super unfortunate! i hope this helped you!

Poos are incredible. Even if I don't need another SD my next dog will be a poo. Versatile, intelligent dogs. I love my lab but I hate that she loves people so freaking much, makes SD work a bit harder. Anyway, poos rock!

Im currently working on going in to be evaluated, and get a PSD note to be able to get a service dog for my PTSD, and if all goes well and is accepted, is there any smaller dog breeds that would be good for a PTSD SD? Im sure i could be capable of a larger one if needed but it'd be easier in my household to have a little bit of a smaller breed, so any suggestions would be really appreciated so i can look into them!

E-collars and prong collars like the ones she has on Finnigan in the video can be amazing training tools if used correctly and safely but they get a bad rep because of people who use them incorrectly, and the "shock" collar is just an e-collar that uses a little either vibration or pressure to help correct the dog, and the prong collar with little leash pressure will immitate the corrections that dogs will naturally give each other I hope this explanation helped you understand those tools a little better if you need a better explanation you can look up what the benefits of a prong collar or e-collar are

A little late but Prong collars are often used wrong that’s why they are rumored to be terrible because when they are used wrong it hurts the dog more. Personally I don’t like to use them anyways because with me they will most likely get used wrong. And I find positive reinforcement to work best for my dogs so it just depends on what you’d prefer.

How should a service dog or service dog in training supposed to act if their about to be attacked by another dog or if she's already been attacked?

If a SDIT has already been attacked it is best to pull them from any public access training and slowly work on getting them readjusted to being near other dogs so they arent fearful. If another dog tries to attack your sdit the dog is allowed to protect themselves but you as the handler has to do everything in your power to not let attacks happen. That's not always possible but oftentimes I see people doing off leash now in stores and off leash is against ADA Law UNLESS the dog is currently tasking and the leash interferes. Many people ignore that and choose to keep their service dogs off leash but that is never a good idea, especially with the amount of fakes in stores now

Hey there! Just found this channel, I love your videos and you and your pup! I'm owner training my dog to start doing tasks for my anxiety, taking her in public would probably cause more anxiety than fix so she will for now be an at-home task trained service dog - for that is when my mind wanders and panic attacks take place most. (Hope that makes sense) I would like to ask what your biggest tip is you wish you knew before training your pup? (I saw in a reply to past comments, along with a program you owner trained.) Anything will work, from good treats to phrasing for commands, hope that's not too big of an ask? Thank you! Love your channel!

I told my mom it is getting difficult to function throughout the day (I have vasovagal. Not sure that’s accurate but that’s my diagnosis so) and I said that I might be interested in getting a service dog so I can live a more normal life. And she told me even if I needed one that I wasn’t getting one. And I need to get a heart monitor lol n and she still hasn’t called the doctor :/ Edit: got my heart monitor on today and my mom has completely ignored my suggestion of a service dog. It’s to the point where I am collapsing in school everyday and asked if we could talk to my doctor about a wheelchair. She told me they are to expensive and said we could get me a walker. A walker isn’t gonna help with what I need so- Idk what I’m gonna do. I’m probably gonna talk to my dad this weekend and then talk to my doctor next week myself. I hope everything goes well
