The very first time I visited Paris I stayed in a tiny room in a 2 star hotel very, very close to the Sorbonne so that area has always had a special place in my heart. The room was so small that you could only walk around 2 sides of the bed. There was a toilet in a closet in the room but the shower was down the hall and shared with all the other rooms. I had a wonderful time.

I was sat at that same table at Shakespeare & Co just last week with my French & German daughters. (former exchange students I was visiting). My French daughter has recently graduated from the Sorbonne and wanted to show us where she studied. We then walked around, almost following you exactly. The Cluny, love that museum, went into the Kilo shop, walked down St-Severin, (what's with a pirate themed candy shop?), visited the Sorbonne and sat in the same little place with the fountains where the students hang out. We spent the rest of they day enjoying the sun in the Jardin du Luxembourg. I love Paris and always check your videos for hints and tips.

I was in Paris last week and stayed at an AirB&B located at Rue Frédéric Sauton in the Latin Quarter area. For us this is by far the best area. It was close to Notre-Dame but in a quite street. Lots of authentic French restaurants. We ate at Chez René twice, that restaurant is amazing. And a mexican restaurant called Anahuacalli... so so good 😊 the little streets in between Notre-Dame and Saint Germain are so lively, lots of happy people wondering around. I totally love this area! There is also a small great place around the Pantheon called Egglicious, the sandwiches there are so fluffy and crispy at the same time, it was delicious. Paris is definitely always a good idea 😊

Great video Jay, one place that I think needs to be mentioned in the Saint-Severin area you blew past is the jazz club Caveau de la Huchette! It is more touristy since it was featured in La La Land but it is one of the best places in town to hear authentic swing music and to swing dance. Great venue absolutely dripping with the jazz history of Paris.

LOL It used to be the university quarter in the Middle-Ages. Teaching was delivered in Latin and students often talked among themselves in Latin because some came from abroad. Incidentally, English students had their college "rue des Anglais" (still on the map). They were said to be _caudés_ "(big)-tailed".

La Sorbonne, as a old university, was "officially" named Paris IV university. But it has, then, been merged with an other university: Pierre et Marie Curie University. (Paris VI). The naming if this new structure (2018) was named "Sorbonne University". So to recapitulate, the new Sorbonne University, includes the former Pierre et Marie Curie University and the former la Sorbonne to z new structure that has decided to use the name "Sorbonne"

The Sorbonne was founded in the 13th century by Pierre de Sorbon. But to my knowledge there is not any kind of remains or ruins from that time were the university (Paris I ) stands nowadays. People only studied theology back then. Now it's a complicate thing were different colleges claim the name hence when people try to explain it to foreigners and locals it can be a mess 😂. Anyway, beautiful quartier plus it's near the Luxembourg garden.

Latin Quarter does exist as it has the most Roman ruins and vestiges of any area in Paris: the arena, 2 baths, the Roman market (now Place de la Sorbonne), the residential quarter in the Luxembourg Gardens, and so forth. In fact, every time road work is done, they come across Roman ruins, most recently on Rue Pierre & Marie Curie. Furthermore in addition to the Sorbonne, there are many institutions of higher learning, including 4 Grandes Écoles. I usually like your vids, but you didn’t do your homework on this one.😒
