In a lot of companies, this role falls under “clinical engineering”. Not all biomedical engineers do this kind of work but it’s the closest you can get to working in a hospital. Most BMEs usually work in an office (technical drawings, quality assurance, testing, etc.).

It was actually difficult for me to get a job after graduation, even with my degree and grades. I finally landed here after meeting my future manager in a career fair. I think career fairs and job fairs are the best place to find a good position for your career. I found online applications to be rather useless compared to in person networking. So when I think of Biomedical Engineering I think of designing, programming, and building equipment such as bionic prosthetics, or organs, or other sort of medical equipment. I'd much rather be working around computers and build and design and program stuff rather than walk around a hospital in a blue clothing, do I have the wrong view of what a biomedical engineer does or does it depend on which company you work for etc?
@hajimeminoguchi47034 жыл бұрын
It really depends on which route you go into.
@Rodrigo-zj7jj4 жыл бұрын
I'm currently studying biomedical engineering and there are four main streams I get to choose the following years in order to specialize myself. 1. Biomedical Engineering (the more prosthetics, engineering electronics and mechanics one) 2. Medical devices (the more control system programming one, for like medical imaging or medical apps) and then there is a more biology one which has 3 Tissue engineering and 4 biomanufacturing, this last two involve engineering of tissues eg for skin burns, fabrication of synthetic arteries as a replacement for an obstructed one, but also u learn a lot of materials biotechnology etc. I'm currently thinking on choosing the more engineering one, and it should hv nothing to do with what this girl is working in

No she’s not a doctor. She an engineer working in the healthcare field helping patients with medical devices and such. She still works a good amount of hrs in the hospital but I doubt she’s on call and works 2 day shifts straight.

I'm a biomedical engineering student, I can tell you, is hard, every field is hard but i do belive that BE is a whole other level, maybe I'm saying this bc I wanted to study arts but fate took me to BE. You have to be ready to study the same contents that ppl see in med school, learn all you can about anatomy, physiology, biology, etc, all while studying calculus and physic it's demanding and it might not get you the best salary in the world, but it's so conforting to know that what you're doing makes a difference in a persons life. You have to know that I'm from Mexico, I know that the whole school system is different in every country but as far as I've talked to BE students from other countries the process to become a BE is pretty similar. Hope this can help you in a way.

@@mariadiazrevilla6441 thank u for the info! This really helped. Now im highly considering Industrial Engineering. I saw that it's one of the easiest Engineering degrees and also has a lot of job offers which i think is really good.

@@n.g.6442 :) Also, some countries allow that and some do not. And you might have to take up extra electives such as cardiology, embedded systems in med and stuff.

Great video! So wait what exactly do you do in the surgery as the engineer? Is it that you check the device before , during and after the procedure?

Hi, I'm a sophomore BME student. Your video was very helpful! I was just wondering that what part of the biomedical engineering do you perform? Thank you for making these videos!
