Great job with the pinning...never seen green pin heads. Some people use one pin in the middle but using 2 pins, like you did makes the diaper much more snug. I usually stick the pins in a bar of soap so it slides through the fabric easier. Rubber pants go with cloth diapers.

Your night time diaper was Similar to what my grandmother said she used. She would take one prefold and cut into straps and fold them into a thick "pad" like shape and place between babies legs for a girl and place more towards the front for boys. And if her pins got dull she ran them through her hair and then stuck them into wax to help them glide easier through the material.

I remember my mother used to put cloth diapers on me, when as a newborn , before I get a rash,and she will put ointment on it to heal nicely,then put me on a clean one with ZBT baby powder to keep me soft,and repainted me securely. Then, she put rubber pants over then to keep me drier overnight! And,in the morning she put soiled ones in the sink to soak, before she put the diapers in the washer to clean with Ivory Snow.Those were the good old days!!

Hi Alaina, many thanks for uploading this it was very helpful :-) I've started doing pins and plastic pants on my toddler as a cheap way to begin cloth diapering and am amazed how well they work. As for the plastic pants I know you are hesitant about buying any but believe be they work very well and don't leak, they are easy to pull on a wiggly toddler too. I'd really recommend buying some to try. When it comes to changing I find it's far easier to do flats and pins across your lap, it stops the child from trying to wiggle away and everything is closer to deal with. Hold pins in you mouth while you put the diaper on across your lap then it's a quick task to fasten them before the child escapes ;-)

I'll have to try the lap thing, thanks for the request and the tip.

@@lainaslife6351 It's a lot easier to change an active toddler over you lap than on the floor and it means you can change anywhere that you can sit down so it's useful when out and about. Now there's a good challenge that may help other moms - showing how to do pinned diapers on your lap :-)

So when you pull down the pants/cover, you have a soiled flat exposed to whatever changing surface? Then you have to unhook and touch a soiled flat? It seems cost efficient but wasn't sure of those two things.

Usually with the streachy flat I use origami fold and use only one pin in the center, with one tab over the other one, and the first 2 layer of the center. This reduce the time and make good fit.

I will feel embarrassed saying this but I got to wear diapers and I found out wearing plastic pants over my diaper helps from leak . But I wear the snap cloth diapers when I am home & use the pin cloth diapers when my others need washing .

Hi Alaina, how's it going with pins, have you tried them again? I'm still using them but faced with a very wiggly toddler at the moment so they are a challenge. Any chance you could do another video showing how you manage them on an uncooperative toddler? Thanks ☺

I have another video coming later this week. I haven't had a terrible time with Eren. When I tell him we have to be extra careful for a diaper change, he's usually pretty good. I also don't use pins every day or anything.

The origami fold and one pin in the center is good for a wiggly baby/toddler.

Thanks. I wanted to be able to show the learning curve of using pins so anyone who's considering using them will see it gets easier with just a little bit of practice.

Did you wash and lanolize your wool? We use wool full time and lanolizing is extremely important if using as a diaper cover.

Yes. All of my wool has been lanolized.

When using wool do the pants eventually end up smelling like pee? How long can you use the same pants?
@lainaslife63514 жыл бұрын
I haven't noticed any pee smell, it's pretty awesome. We don't use them everyday but when I used them for Calvin's overnight diapers a year or so ago, I'd only wash like once a month and they were never smelly.
