Yes, dogs can pass down traits. I've always had labs, they are the perfect dog. And my last dog was a boxer lab (so he's smaller than a full size lab and is great for traveling) but now my sister is leaving for college and taking little Colby with her and my mom was sad without a dog but she also wanted to travel. Thus a rat terrier was picked, and man this thing was/is dumber than a brick. Basically we were tired of Yoda (he screams at you and it sounds like Yoda thus his name) thinking outside was for play and inside was for peepee so we brought Colby over for a weekend to teach Yoda. When Colby needs to go outside he walks over to the door and sits down looking at you, and the first day after Colby went home I was in the kitchen finding something to eat and then I caught Yoda in the corner of my eye sitting next to the door looking at me! And I'm like: "OMG IT WORKED!" So I let Yoda out... And he walked five feet and peed on the deck... Anyway, PROGRESS!!!

@@charliethedog7579 dogs actually have no idea what you’re talking about if it’s about something they did previously. If you catch them, you can pick them up and put them outside. Otherwise, spend time with them outside and give them a treat when they go in the right spot to let them know that they are doing the right thing. I did this when my dog was a pup and she has always peed immediately after being taken to the yard.

Why not attach eye bolts to the outside the the garage that align with the outside hinges of the play gate. That way you can slide a pin through the eyebolt and gate hinge. It will stop Oscar from moving the gate and would be quick and simple attach and detach. No more moving a giant nut or saw horse.
