I worry about them restarting the mine, and especially forestry. It would be like the repeating without any lessons learned. But money talks. And the minerals they have on Bougainville are now worth more than ever. I would hate to see what happened in West Papua (especially the Grasberg mine which is right on the side of the Cartensz Pyramid, the highest mountain between the Himalayas and the Andes) happen to Bougainville. Thankfully though the Bougainvillians don't have to worry about Indonesian transmigration programmes.

Hey Adam, I might go to Bougainville on assignment for 6 months and wanted to ask a few questions before I make my decision. I compete in triathlons and need to keep my training units current. Is it advisable to run and road cycle. I imagine I can swim in the ocean. I see you have your own coffeemaker. Are there any diseases like malaria, yellow fever etc. Thanks, Evan

In short, yes you can swim in the ocean but it depends on your location, permission, rips, crocs etc. You can road cycle but the roads aren't the best condition, so you'll need a mountain bike. But you can run, no worries. Yes, I took doxy for Malaria during my time there.

Great recording and looks like a perfect place to live.. and very beautifull beach, interesting houses How hard is it to permanently resettle on this island from an European city ? I have a goal to save up few years of money from work and get started there. The Irony behind it tho ..EU teacher on an island where itll be of use 1% to the rest

You'd most likely have to work there via an organisation that is present in Bougainville otherwise it would be near on impossible to establish yourself there without those connections, visas, housing etc.

The air is much more rich in oxygen in Arawa. I love this video. There's so many great places to visit in Papua New Guinea but most of them are very remote where there's no electricity and mobile phone network. But that's where you will find paradise. Thanks travel inspired👍😍
