Sign up from our newsletter ► www.workinghorseswithjim.com/...
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horse farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

Brenda mentioned the newsletter and as someone who gets it, I can say that it is well worth signing up. It is very obvious that she spends time and puts a lot of effort into each one. I look forward to getting them! Thanks Brenda! I so enjoy watching the horses. They are beautiful and little June is adorable.

Just proves that rugs (blankets) are totally unnecessary for a show coat. The only time you need to rug is when they are hot and sweaty, or for in the trailer in winter. A closed fistful of black sunflower seeds daily provides B vitamins for a show shine. See, no rugs here much, and I have never seen Jim hose them down, just good feed, lots of work, and regular brushing. So simple.

Really impressed with the way Lady responded to Jim’s command to go easy on Brea’s presence near the new fold June, it just shows how connected these horses are to Jim. The garden looks great Brenda and it great to see that both of you are enjoying the summer season. Just to let you know I have always got the new podcast updates without problems, and I have signed up for the news letter.

The horses are , of course, what piqued my interest first, but as a commercial vegetable grower I have to say, Brenda, that you are growing some mighty fine lettuce in your raised bed. Here in NW Missouri it has become almost impossible to grow great quality lettuce during the summer.

Hey Jim and Brenda, Thank you for the very entertaining video and Brenda's tour of the daily farm activities. I really appreciate Lady's protective manner with June for now . horses are naturally curious when a new foal arrives and will try to say hello and investigate. With a few natural predators like coyotes which are very prevalent where I reside in Southern New Brunswick Canada. It's great to have a protective mare in the pasture to scare off these wild animals, until the foal is old and wise enough to defend itself. Brenda your mini farm collection is growing with the addition of Pansy , Rosie The Pig ( I agree with you that Pigs are the most destructive of all the farm animals .) Nice Job Jim on backing Bill and Earl into the shed . the new collar on Earl is really taking shape and forming up to Earl's shoulders.

Boy, Lady sure can pin her ears back flatter than a fritter! She definitely didn't want Bree getting close to her baby sister, June! And daddy, Baron, didn't get any better reception either it didn't look like!😂😄🤣 Good girl, Lady, protecting your baby! Bree is a gorgeous filly, love her blonde mane and tail. Brenda, I think your garden is looking good! The lettuce looks delicious! Down here in northeast Tennessee, everyone is hurtiing for rain. Everything is drying up. My lawn even looks like straw. I'll have to resubscribe to the newsletter. For over two years I've tried subscribing but never get a newsletter. I must be doing something wrong! Hoping your week goes well, and I'll see you on Wednesday!

Seems to me a good stall option would be to extend standing stalls where Lady and June feed. Do you call that your box stall? Looks like ( on video anyway ) it might have room for 4 . And open up the wall on the top so the horses could see each other.

Brenda, you do put out a lovely newsletter. Very enjoyable. Bill and Baron sure were moving out with the spreader today. I think Jim likes that, getting the job done in a timely manner. Earl did fantastic today, especially backing the spreader into the barn with Bill. He seemed to be right in step with Bill, responding to commands very well. The more I hear about and see the Suffolk Punches in action, the more impressed I am. A friend here in Maine just lost her SP mare and foal to a birthing gone horribly wrong. So sad. If she gets another mare, I'll have to recommend she AIs her with Baron's wonderful genes. Anyway, great video today.

As usual, your horses all look like a million bucks. Jim does such a great job with his common sense horse training. I’ve never seen a more well behaved, happier bunch of working horses. Riding horse trainers should take lessons from Jim. They could learn a lot. I come from the riding horse world and they’re always trying to take shortcuts and the easy way out. Their horses often look stressed and unhappy compared to Jim’s horses. Kudos to Jim!!

Jim and his wonder wife are living at least one of my dreams . That being able to just do what Jim does . I love horses and have all my life. My allergies have prevented me from doing many things including owning horses . Still I did take massive amounts of advanced riding classes and did very well. Even had a horse I kept at a stables for a good while. The cost of doing that was equal to my mortgage on a house . So in the end I had to give it up . I love to see you with your wonderful horses . The babies are wonderful

I was surprised to see Jim pulling that foal by a halter instead of wrapping a rope around the foal and leading it that way. Foals still have soft vertebrae. Damage can be done. My late father was a horse whisperer and master saddler. He taught me a lot in his 99 years.

I think this is one of your better videos as it touched on the variety of things that happen almost daily on a farm. A clogged spreader was a crisis, but a mild one. Farming mimics life and the ups and downs are inevitable and just a matter of degree. As a retired farmer and farrier I must say that I found the temperaments of mares, even when they didn't have a foal with them, to be much more unpredictable than stallions and of course the geldings are the easiest to work with as a general rule.

As i watched Bree with Lady June and how Lady wanted to go after Bree I noticed in the barnyard Pansy and Skippy just stood back looking in as we will stay right here. Like kids in a play ground to see if a fight will happen..lol... Jim got on Lady right away and she listened to him. This tells you how much the horse's listen to Jim. Bree is so big seeing her next to Lady as she will be tall like her. Garden looks wonderful and love the rocks how the decorations with them are going. Stay safe and God bless you jim and Brenda 🙏 Thank you for the great tour of the farm ❤

Brenda, thank you once again for a very entertaining video!! Lady's reaction to Bree getting too close was unexpected for me, since Bree IS her daughter, but I get it. She's just being a protective mom to June!! Was nice seeing Skippy, Rosie, Pansy & of course the horses as always. Love your garden & green house!!!! Have a wonderful rest of your week, Brenda & Jim.. Thanks for sharing!! 💕
