That’s hilarious that you brought up Atreyu because that is IMMEDIATELY what I thought of when I heard this. I loved Atreyu in middle school-junior high. I listened to their first three albums a lot, and they followed a pretty similar path to this band: they started out kinda melodic gothy metal and I thought they were awesome at the time. I don’t know if I’d still like it today, but they had some cool stuff that you can tell they put some love into. Especially the first two albums. Their third album was okay, but looking back you can kinda see they were testing the waters for their future sound. When their fourth album dropped though and it sounded like this song here, I was like “what the fuck is this garbage.” And I was 14 or 15 at the time, my music tastes were shitty and I had little room to judge. But I still thought that album was generic as fuck and not like their old stuff at all. That’s exactly what this reminded me of. The most shameless and soulless path of selling out imaginable imo: pandering to the Monster Energy Drink crowd. Awful.
